  1. Lets Go Mets! * SS Jose Reyes * 2B Luis Castillo * 3B David Wright * CF Carlos Beltran * 1B Carlos Delgado * LF Trot Nixon * RF Endy Chavez * C Brian Schneider * P Pedro Martinez From Adam Rubin: Jose Valentin hasnt retired, but he will suspend playing for the rest of the year. Top prospect Fernando Martinez is scheduled to begin playing in the Gulf Coast League tomorrow, as he returns from a hamstring injury suffered with Binghamton. Angel Pagan may require surgery on the shoulder he injured at Dodger Stadium.
  2. What a great inning! The bench seems much more enthusiastic the last few days.
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I wonder: Could the Mets have gotten Santana without including Guerra? (They would surely have had to have replaced him in the package with someone else.) Or would Bernazard have let the deal collapse over Delois Guerra? Interesting stuff. The way I understood it was that the Mets told the Twins that they would include Guerra to get Santana. When the Twins said that they were ready to deal, Omar knew that the Twins had no alternatives so he could have pulled back Guerra from the deal. However, he didn't think that was the right thing to do so he kept his word.
  4. I hear that they made the announcement via IM. "U R Fired"
  5. I wish the Mets had Flores. Oh....
  6. "Omar has complete autonomy." A paraphrase from the Wilpons.
  7. Willie should have been fired after last September. He should have been fired on Memorial Day. If the ownership handled it right, they would have called a press conference after the second game of Sunday's DH and taken care of it before departing for California. If they did that, most people would have said that the Mets did the right thing. Instead, they did it the wrong way so the focus was on how they did it, not what they did and, as a result, Willie looked like the victim instead of the mediocre manager that he was. He's gotten some some sympathy but that doesn't change the fact that the Mets have as many 9th inning comeback wins under Manuel that they had under Randolph (one). It doesn't change the fact that last night there was a life, a spark, to this team that we hadn't seen in quite awhile. Willie's time has passed and he will get millions not to do anything so he should show some class and stop bitching about the people that are still his employers.
  8. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: If they dared, they could slice away 30 seconds or a minute of between-inning commercial time and save 15 or 20 minutes a night right there. JCL nails the hypocrisy of MLBs stance. If I remember correctly, there are 2 minutes between half-innings unless it's a nationally televised game when it's 2 and a half. Cut 30 seconds off of that and you save 9 minutes without effecting the game. Of course, I wouldn't mind them telling Jeter or Nomar to "hurry it up" but they'll save that for the Brendan Harris' of the game.
  9. BTW, the Mets are also no-hit in the game. The Marlins made no errors so perhaps walk, steal, GB to advance the runner, Sac Fly.
  10. I'd give him a box of the hair dye thing that Keith endorses to use on his beard.
  11. Jerry is only 54 but looks older because of the white in his beard. He needs the hair dye that Keith plugs.
  12. Jerry read Martin Luther King's works: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/03/23/sports/baseball/23mets.html?scp=2&sq=willie+randolph+obama&st=nyt
  13. I say Wally Backman. It's an audition for next year. If he doesn't do anything really stupid (as if the Mets are incapable of "really stupid"), he should be on the list for next year's manager (of course, I hope that Jerry Manuel is still the manager next year because that would mean the team succeeded in '08).
  14. Mike Vaccarro: http://www.nypost.com/seven/06172008/sports/mets/ready_____aim_____hold_your_fire__115840.htm "Run by a miserble cast of miscreants. Good for Randolph, Peterson and Nieto. They may not know this, but their lot in life just got a bit brighter, getting away from this batch of bums."
  15. I thought that Willie should have been fired after last season, to help get the stench of the collapse away. I thought that Willie should have been fired on Memorial Day as the record was only .500 and the team was flat. But I'm confused today because I do not know what changed since then. He didn't get dumber. The team was the same. Why now and not then? And why Monday at 3:15 AM. JCL is right--management will get hammered by the press for doing this in the middle of the night. It looks like the way Ford pardoned Nixon, hoping that nobody would notice. If the team doesn't make the playoffs, Jerry and Omar will go in the off-season and we'll hear about a "fresh start" in the new stadium.
  16. My brother took his 6 year old daughter to her first game and she made it all the way through the 8th inning of the first game. That was great and far exceeded what he expected. He called me with three comments: The apple didn't rise (make your own Viagra joke here) after either homerun. You can buy a girls pink Mets hat that smells of strawberrys. $20. As he left, Shea employees were at the exits imploring fans to stay for the second game.
  17. Happy to do it, OlerudOwned. I just didn't want to second-guess; that's easy.
  18. HOORAY! But it was still a bad move. I'm happy for Willie.
  19. Before the Cancel AB, before the pen comes into the game, I say BAD MOVE. The pen stinks and it's Robinson Cancel, for heaven's sake.
  20. There's the guy to fire. Sandy Alomar, Jr. becomes the first person in baseball history to remove a "countdown" number and be fired in the same day. IDIOT!
  21. Keith Olbermann in the house!
  22. What a bullpen! I guess this is Willie's fault or Peterson's fault. Willie made the right moves.
  23. Texas DFAd Robinson Tejada who shutout the Mets for 2 innings on Friday. One of the writers said that the Mets are interested in him.
  24. See that Carlos? The other first baseman doesn't mind his uni getting dirty.
  25. Nice athleticism, Carlos D.
