  1. Carter with a double--his 3d hit of the game.

    KTE 2010

I'll take the 3 Mets @ Nationals series.
  3. That's a BOC nominee!
  4. Tweets tonight say that the Mets are looking at Cristian Guzman as a temporary SS. The Nationals like Ian Desmond so a trade would solve a problem for them.
  5. ARGH! Ledger_NYMets Agent says Reyes will need to rest for two to eight weeks. So now Mets could be without Reyes and Beltran on Opening Day.
  6. Red Sox (5-3) Marco Scutaro SS Dustin Pedroia 2B Victor Martinez C David Ortiz C J.D. Drew RF Mike Cameron CF Jeremy Hermida LF Jed Lowrie 3B Lars Anderson 1B Pitching: RHP John Lackey followed by LHP Felix Doubront, RHP Joe Nelson and RHP Junichi Tazawa. METS (6-4) Pagan, cf Castillo, 2b Wright, 3b Jacobs, 1b Bay, lf Catalanotto, dh Francoeur, rf Cora, ss Coste, c Pelfrey, rhp Also listed to pitch: Pedro Feliciano, Tobi Stoner, Travis Blackley, Ryota Igarashi, Elmer Dessens and Bobby Livingston.
  7. Carter, obviously pumped by Edgy's earlier comment, with a 2-RBI double. The scoreboard had the wrong score, so when it was fixed, the Mets fans in Orlando cheered. One of the Braves announcers said "boy, they don't miss a trick." Mets fans can add.
  8. Nieve didn't want Neise to feel too badly so he's given up 3 in the 4th. 6-3 Atlanta.
  9. Jeter will appear and his warmth will raise the temperature to a balmy 60 degrees.
  10. Ugh. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/10/sports/ncaafootball/10sandomir.html?ref=sports Sandomir is nice and sarcastic in his article: "The Yankees should think big. Start the celebration with the inaugural Tournament of Jeters Parade. "
  11. I don't know how Carter can make the team. Right now, the bench looks like Pagan/Matthews; Blanco; Cora; Tatis. That leaves one spot--probably for Catalanotto or Jacobs. If they didn't rush to sign Cora or sign Tatis, they'd have more flexibility. Maybe there will be a deal. Atlanta's announcers: the Mets "brought the bottoms" here today.
  12. Neise gives all 3 back in the bottom of the first.
  13. Chris Carter with a 2 run homer. 3-0 "Mets", still in the top of the first. I always thought that you had to start four regulars in an exhibition game. Rubin tweeted today: "MLB official taking note of lack of Mets star power. Rule is must bring 4 starters although it's now amended to include starting pitcher." I don't know how to interpret today's lineup as including four starters: Murphy--OK; Santos--a starter by default; Niese--maybe.
  14. David Brooks, [u:2qkhkvw8]New York Times[/u:2qkhkvw8] columnist: "We all have our emotional hot and cold spots. If you asked me about the New York Mets, youd see a glow in my eyes. If you asked me about banking reform, words might come out of my mouth, but youd notice me nodding off midsentence...." http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/09/opinion/09brooks.html?ref=opinion
  15. Edgy--you're right based on the way I phrased it. Let me rephrase: The problem is that right now, the "two", "three", or "four" pitchers (Ollie, Maine, Pelfrey) don't appear to be any better than the "five" pitchers (Niese, Nieve, Figueroa, Misch).
  16. The problem is that right now, the "five" pitchers (Niese, Nieve, Figueroa, Misch) don't appear to be any worse than the "two", "three", or "four" pitchers (Ollie, Maine, Pelfrey).
  17. With all the noise that comes from spring training, it's great when we can learn something about baseball or about our Mets as people--David Waldstein accomplishes both in this insightful article: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/08/sports/baseball/08catchers.html?ref=sports
  18. The game is available on mlb.com but it's the Braves broadcast. Fortunately, it's not the usual idiots the Braves employ. Unfortunately, it's new idiots. Did you know that Bobby Cox has a six-pack? It's true--the Bobby Cox six pack of tickets for his farewell season. Also: Southern homes are especially susceptible to termites.
  19. Rizzuto and Caray, in fact all of the Caray's, are/were clowns. I don't what the criteria could have been to include Haray Caray only two away from the great Ernie Harwell. Jack Buck was overrated (and his son is presently overrated).
  20. Gary Carter & John Hough, Jr., [u:35j8cmx5]A Dream Season[/u:35j8cmx5], p.124: The idea of grown men, athletes, touching each other may bring some chuckles here and there. But it isn't sexual. Bill Robinson and I have a ritual, which we call our "good-luck hug." I go into the clubhouse every night and look for Uncle Bill. "Hey," I'll say, "where's my good-luck hug?" He'll give it to me. It would take a very brave man to suggest that Uncle Bill or I have a gay streak.
  21. Does Wagner's hat get its own locker?
  22. Adam Rubin asked Bay about his t-shirt and if the words meant anything. He said he didn't know what it meant. A commenter at Rubin's blog said it meant "The Common Good is the Message." BTW, Bay told Rubin that he bought the shirt at Nordstrom. That concludes today's episode of "important stuff we've learned about Jason Bay."
