  1. The Veteran's Committee votes in That SOB Whitey Herzog and Doug "God" Harvey. Nothing for Gil Hodges or Marvin Miller.
  2. The article was amended online to remove "Latin."
  3. In Bill Madden's winter meeting preview today, he makes a statement that some people have said but is still surprising to see in the MSM. Also, is it true? What about Chris Coste? "Mets? Did somebody say the Mets? They won't spend the money for Holliday, Bay or Lackey and apparently, they're only interested in signing low-budget Latin players, having shown little or no interest in Byrd, Figgins, DeRosa, Wolf or even Staten Island's Jason Marquis, while waiting for their markets to come to them. At the same time, the Phillies and Braves wasted no time in addressing their needs. Sad. [emphasis added.]" http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/2009/12/05/2009-12-05_gentlemen_start_your_wallets_gms_rev_their_engines_with_baseball_winter_meetings.html?page=1#ixzz0Yvep9gOE
  4. Billy Wagner to the Braves. Wagner ties Schneider by playing for 3 out of the 5 NL East teams.
  5. HA! Thanks for that. I forgot about the doofus.
  6. September 18, 2008: Schneider hits two homeruns (of his 9 for the season) against his old team, as the Mets beat the Nationals, behind Johan, 7-2 (and I missed one of the homeruns getting ice cream for my son--what were the odds that he'd hit two in one game?). http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=7546
  7. Brian Schneider signs with the Phillies. I wonder if he said "in my heart, I'll always be a Met." Schneider is over halfway through the NL East.
  8. Wait a second: the Mets sign a guy, give him a space on the 40-man roster, and he declares his loyalty to the Mets rival but this doesn't bother you? You know what--F Coste. If he wants to be a Phillie, then cut him and have him wait outside CBP to be signed. If he loves the Phillies so much and they don't sign him, he can use the royalties from his ass-covered book to buy a ticket. It's not like he said "I will always treasure my time with the Phillies but now I am a Met." There are numerous non-entities like Coste out there. Omar didn't have to sign this one.
  9. Is it too soon to cut Coste? http://theropolitans.com/2009/11/i-will-always-be-phillie-quote.html
  10. Author:
  11. FK: Sadly, that was the Times, not the News.
  12. And of course, this line: "The store seemed to be as quiet as Shea Stadium was after Carlos Beltran looked at Adam Wainwrights called third strike to end the 2006 season." Was the MFY store then "As jubilant as Yankee Stadium when the Yankees reclaimed the World Championship, their 27th, thus restoring all that is right and good in this world"?
  13. Derek Jeter to be named SI Sportsman of the Year. I'd be happier with Elin Nordegren or Bud Selig than Jeter. http://gawker.com/5414123/derek-jeter-sportsman-of-the-year
  14. Congratulations to Omir. He gave us one of the few great moments of the season, and capped off for me one of the best games I've ever seen in person, with his GW homerun at Fenway.
  15. Instead of Webb, I voted for a picture of a woman in the stands, watching the game that we're supposed to be watching, with her hands clenched over her mouth.
  16. In an upset, Jerry didn't get the "Struggling Manager of the Year Award": http://joeposnanski.com/JoeBlog/2009/11/19/the-mccloskey-awards/?9ae65028
  17. What is Jeter doing at the moment in this picture? He's with Minka Kelly, he's in St. Bart's, yet there's got to be some humor we can find in that picture.
  18. Wouldn't that same clause be in every personnel contract?
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Who is or isn't the bench coach won't have an impact on whether or not Jerry gets fired during the 2010 season. If the team isn't doing well, the Mets won't say, "Well, we have to keep Jerry because we don't think his bench coach is ready to step in." There are any number of people who are readily available and can do the interim thing. True. This only removes the threat from a guy sitting next to him. If it makes Jerry more comfortable, there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe he'll be able to loosen up and laugh once in awhile.
  20. I don't want to speak for anyone, but I'm guessing that this is viewed as a "shitwad hiring" as the Mets have brought in an old colleague of Jerry and Omar, and someone who is not a former ML manager so he's not viewed as an obvious threat to take Jerry's job, instead of someone like Wedge or Melvin who has managerial experience and can provide a new perspective.
  21. Tweet from Hubbach says that says we'll have to wait a little longer: The Mets say a formal announcement of changes to Citi Field, the team's uniforms and a club Hall of Fame will come in early December.
  22. That's how I read it. I'm sorry that you do not concur.
  23. J. Wilpon qualified his comment by citing the budget. To say that they only fixed it because they had the money is admitting that they wouldn't have otherwise fixed the mistake. He didn't have to mention the budget at all. We don't care. We're glad they're fixing a mistake. What he should have been smart enough to say is "A) We screwed up We're fixing it."
  24. What a stupid quote from J. Wilpon. In other words, if CF didn't come in "under budget", then they would not have fixed the mistake. All he had to do is say "we made a mistake and we're fixing it." He didn't have to reference the budget. Is it possible for a Mets representative to utter a single sentence without sounding stupid?
