  1. I agree. Rodriguez, right here.
  2. What does "elegant competitor" mean?
  3. C.B. Bucknor behind the plate. Good times!
  4. That was nice of FOX, showing us Castillo doing you know what and Molina doing you know what. "Two franchises going in opposite directions." FANTASTIC!
  5. In case you're wondering if you get today's game on FOX, look here: http://doc-0g-8o-docs.googleusercontent.com/docs/secure/rb76hs62dof3nkvdingba5cedl9ltjag/3eroj873839l7g9ebcs26m6u11icjfsr/1271505600000/02606420827971422172/*/0B4QycWe-w3GTNGE1YmE2YjQtNTRlMS00YzYzLTg2ZTgtYjllZWZiNDJhNTcy?nonce=k0r3i5nen7rhu&user=01836065528172616338&hash=38ejbvoe2uvctmqle1e4rc104rl9mu01 Kenny Albert (subbing for Joe Buck who gets a week off after working for one day in two consecutive weeks) and Tim McCarver with the call. Ken Rosenthal will be the sideline reporter, providing obvious comments and information that you already know while passing them off as insights.
  6. Over-managing by Jerry. I know Ollie got out of the inning but it's only the 2d--perhaps your pitcher can get the #8 guy and then you have the pitcher leading off the next inning.
  7. METS: Jose Reyes, SS Luis Castillo, 2B David Wright, 3B Jason Bay, LF Mike Jacobs, 1B Jeff Francoeur, RF Rod Barajas, C Gary Matthews Jr., CF Oliver Perez, LHP Cardinals: 1. Lopez, 2B 2. Craig, LF 3. Pujols, 1B 4. Ludwick, RF 5. Molina, C 6. Freese, 3B 7. Mather, CF 8. Ryan, SS 9. Carpenter, p Matt Holliday is sick. Darn.
  8. A difference is that SNY, despite being partly owned by the Mets, is an all-sports station. YES is a MFY station (Exhibit A was cited by FK, above). Another difference is that Mets fans can call and speak in complete sentences while MFY fans would call and blurt out "Red Sox suck!" "JETER!" and "27!" for the entire segment. Kay's best attributes are LaGreca, Bernstein and the fact that he's not Francesa. I wish he would never talk about the Mets and would leave the room, turning over the show to his co-hosts. He embarrasses himself with his anti-Mets bias (he still decries the firing of Willie Randolph) but not to the extent of Francesa.
  9. On Opening Day in DC, a friend saw a Phillies fan walk up to a Nationals fan and say "your team fucking sucks."
  10. The pitching matchup tonight isn't great for the Mets, but this anonymous quote from a scout, via Jayson Stark, gives me some hope: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Once again this week, let's check in with some of America's finest scouting minds: On Chris Carpenter: "His next outing, it will be very interesting to watch his velocity, because he's just not throwing very hard. Everything is 89-90 mph, it's flat, and he can't locate it. He's always been a guy who could reach back and get a little extra velocity when he needed it. But his last time out [sunday against Milwaukee], he just couldn't do it." http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings100415
  11. Clutch performance by Pelf. Very impressive. On the post-game, Castillo told Ed that before the season, he told Pelfrey that if he won 15 games, he would buy him a watch. 2 down, 13 to go. Howie laughed and said that this was a great marketing opportunity for the Mets. AdamRubinESPN Mets first shutout in Denver in 71 games in franchise history in the city.
  12. Two ways to look at Piniero's comments--and they aren't mutually exclusive: If Piniero really wanted to be a Met/stay in the NL/play on the same team as Cora, then a million dollars, in context obviously, shouldn't have swayed him to do the opposite. The Mets should have come up with the million. They had a million to take a risk on Escobar, to pay Matthews, to sign Cora, to sign Tatis, so while they were able to throw a million here and there to risks and possibly undervalued players, they could have taken a million and given it to a surer thing (unless they truly believed that Maine/Pelfrey were as good as Piniero). One thing is clear: Harper's a hack.
  13. I think that you're exactly right, BG. Jerry--and to be fair, other managers would have done the same thing (which doesn't make it right)--wanted to save Rodriguez for a save situation. The problem, of course, is that you are anticipating something that might never happen while a sudden death situation is actually happening so you need to use your best players to keep the game going.
  14. That pisses me off more than the 3-run homer. They gave away a run.
  15. Note to SNY: maybe live interviews while the game is going on is a bad idea.
  16. When I got out of the train station tonight, a guy was standing there wearing a Mets cap. It's not a usual sight in the DC area. I'm taking it as a good omen.
