I wish that Thole had the same "lack of effort" (I'll call it "baseball smarts") as Turner when he was up with bases loaded in the bottom of the 9th, tie game, 1 out--he avoided the pitch, hit into a DP, and the Mets lost in extras.

Incredible. He bumped into a teammate on a popup when he didn't even have to be there. Other than a pitcher breaking a finger after punching the dugout wall, this might be one of the stupidest injuries in history.

So when the SP doesn't pitch at least 5 complete innings, the official scorer can decide who gets the win but cannot select the SP. "Change the rule!" (says Warner Wolf). If the SP doesn't pitch at least 5 complete innings but would have gotten the win if he did, then official scorer can select any of the pitchers, including the SP, to be credited with the win.
