Here's an idea: why doesn't Jeter pay the guy for his taxes? That's walking around money for Jeter.

Cano won the HR Derby? Crap. Why don't we just give Teixiera the MVP right now to save time?

Because he's recovering from the calf injury that bothered him so much that he's played almost every inning since coming off the DL including Saturday when he went 5 for 5.

Izzy's a goner. The guys they got for nothing will go--anything they get in return for the future is a bonus. Izzy, Scott Hairston, Capuano, time to start packing.

I predicted 82-80 so 1 over at the break is on schedule. But I wouldn't have made that prediction if I knew that Ike would miss most of the year, David would miss most of the year, Jose would miss several weeks, and Angel would miss a month. I'm pleased that we have a manager that we have confidence in and that we may have stumbled upon a 2B of the future in Justin Turner. What makes me less than "over the moon" is the fact that the Mets are in the wrong division--move them to either Central or West and we'd be saying "stock up on a run at first place!" They won't make the playoffs so there's no "climax" to this season. Still, it's been fun and should stay as fun to keep our interest but we won't be celebrating the Class of '11 in the future.

More players dropped out of the ASG game today, some with injuries, some with "injuries" and some because they started today. Since Selig insists that the game "count", then move it to Wednesday so the starting pitchers from Sunday can pitch. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=txallstarreplacements

This is not a reference to the graphic above... this game is a big one. The Mets can end the 1st half with momentum by beating the champs in a series on the road and hopefully pick up a game in the wild card chase. -

Jeter gets 2999 after the home plate ump refuses to call strike 3 twice so Price has to lay it over. Jeter did that absurd body contortion on a pitch over the inside corner and his aura distracted the ump who missed that call and the one thereafter. And the guy in the message above was there. SOB.

I'm at work yesterday and a MFY fan walks in to chat. He's a good guy despite his rooting interest. He said that he's going to NY for the weekend and will be at the game on Saturday. I say "that's great. Maybe you'll see Jeter get 3000." And he says something like "I hope he goes 10 for 10 tonight so it doesn't matter tomorrow and Jeter doesn't care about 3000 because he's only about winning, same with Mo, all those guys care about is winning, not personal records." Geez, what a load of crap. Scott Hairston cares about winning too but he's not making Ford (or any) commercials. Tim Byrdak cares about winning but he's not dating everybody on the Maxim 100. This "all he cares about winning" stuff really pisses me off.

I checked and it looks like the Rays had the right to veto the split DH because they already have two split DH's scheduled for the year. In April, that wasn't so for the Mets so MLB rules permitted the Braves to schedule games to their competitive advantage. (Why is two the number?) From the NY Post: League rules gave the Rays (and Yankees) a choice about the day-night doubleheader, because each team already has two split double-headers scheduled later this season. Of course, the MFYs could have scheduled a single-admission DH without needing approval from Tampa but they opted not to do that.

Does Tampa have injury problems? With Jeter, A. Rodriguez and M. Rivera hurting, why wouldn't they play tomorrow?

Jeter: out of the All-Star Game... will the game be canceled? (The thread went beyond the original posting of the HBO show so I changed the name as I imagine that there will be few more Jeter related items this weekend.)
