  1. OTOH, Wheeler can strike out as many as he can.
  2. Here we go... enjoy "The Jeet Index": http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/derek-jeter
  3. FK did a nice job of getting in my head, but I also want to mention that we started a terrible SS and then brought in his terrible backup. For all of Sandy's talk about improving the team, Tejada is still the SS and Q is still the backup. Would Tejada be on the roster of any other major league team? I doubt it and if so, he'd be on the bench but he's starting for the Mets. Q is a nonentity and to have him used as a pinchhitter, even with Murphy's absence and C. Young's injury, shows poor roster construction.

  5. Drinks on Tim Welke tonight! Helluva job by the bullpen, other than Valverde. And having Q off the bench... well done Sandy!
  6. Does Tim Welke have money on the Nationals?
  7. Edgy MD wrote: Gee debuted against Washington, right? Yes, I was there with Lefty Specialist. We met Dillon's wife.

  9. Extra points for "degree of difficulty" to the Hebner selection as it encompasses two distinct melodies.
  10. 1--Rays over Nationals 2--5th, no frigging way.
  11. 1--78-84 2--3d 3--No.
  12. 1--Who will win the World Series and who will they beat (e.g. X over Y)? 2--Where will the MFYs finish in the AL East and will those bastards make the playoffs?
  13. (I can't find the thread for 2013. If anyone remembers the names of the co-winners, please mention them.) Just the Mets, just the Mets. Step right up and predict the Mets: 1--Mets record for 2014 2--Where the Mets will finish in the NL East 3--Whether the Mets will make the playoffs and if so, how far they will go. As always, don't be a J.J. Putz and write "162-0."
  14. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I'd hate to give up on Plawecki just yet. Travis is still too much of a question mark. Agreed. There are no guarantees so keep them both, at least for now.
  15. Jonah Keri says "over!" for the Mets over/under number of 74.5: http://grantland.com/features/mlb-2014-over-under-bets-yankees-mets-indians-angels/
  16. Without getting into the issue that is the subject of the article, the young lady to his left should be nominated for Best Dressed! http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/06/us/politics/senate-rejects-obama-nominee-linked-to-abu-jamal-case.html?hp&_r=0
  17. It's jarring to hear the station ID include a discussion of the Ukraine. The good news is that we'll undoubtedly see that $3M immediately poured into improving the team!
  18. Tremendous column (thanks for posting). I'm sure that it made Bernie Miklasz weep.
  19. SI.com has learned that Burkhardt has been chosen as the main host for Fox and Fox Sports 1's MLB pregame show, an assignment that includes the regular-season, All-Star Game, playoffs and World Series. Burkhardt is expected to work with Baseball Hall of Famer Frank Thomas (who signed last month with Fox Sports), Fox Sports 1's Gabe Kapler, and a rotation of other analysts. On Sunday, a Fox Sports spokesperson declined comment on Burkhardt and other baseball-related questions. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/more/news/20140302/kevin-burkhardt-fox-sports-sochi-olympics-espn/#ixzz2uu1wu66s If Burkhardt ends up on "Fox & Friends", I'm gonna be pissed.
  20. They did that last year so I think so. I also think that if FOX asked Selig to put Ryan Seacrest's face on home plate, he'd do it.
  21. Bad news for Gary, Keith & Ron: they will only have one Saturday off in 2014. FOX has released the schedule for Saturday games and the Mets will only be on one time. FOX is splitting the schedule, and in some cases the day, with FOX Sports 1, and the big market Mets will only make one appearance. The entire schedule is here: http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/binary/2014/02/27/n2014_MLB_Schedule1393533808826.pdf (note that FOX won't have a game until May 24th). According to The Big Lead, it takes two analysts to replace Tim McCarver as Joe Buck will be joined by Harold Reynolds and Tom ("I Love Joe Torre") Verducci. The Mets Saturday is: Saturday, July 5 4:00 PM ET FOX Sports 1 Arizona Diamondbacks at Atlanta Braves 7:00 PM ET FOX Baltimore Orioles at Boston Red Sox Texas Rangers at New York Mets San Francisco Giants at San Diego Padres Good news for those of us who live outside of New York: the exclusivity blackout has been lifted so if the FOX game is not shown in your local market, you can still see it on mlb.tv and Extra Innings. From the 506.com message board: Team-by-Team scheduled appearance breakdown-- Yankees: 11 (8 FS1, 3 FOX) Cardinals: 10 (7 FS1, 3 FOX) Rangers: 8 (5 FS1, 3 FOX) Reds: 8 (5 FS1, 3 FOX) Tigers: 8 (5 FS1, 3 FOX) Indians: 7 (6 FS1, 1 FOX) Nationals: 7 (2 FS1, 5 FOX) Pirates: 7 (3 FS1, 4 FOX) Angels: 6 (3 FS1, 3 FOX) Braves: 6 (3 FS1, 3 FOX) Dodgers: 6 (4 FS1, 2 FOX) Red Sox: 6 (2 FS1, 4 FOX) Royals: 6 (4 FS1, 2 FOX) Giants: 5 (3 FS1, 2 FOX) Orioles: 5 (1 FS1, 4 FOX) Padres: 4 (3 FS1, 1 FOX) Rays: 4 (2 FS1, 2 FOX) Twins: 4 (4 FS1) Cubs: 3 (1 FS1, 2 FOX) Diamondbacks: 3 (3 FS1) Brewers: 2 (1 FS1, 1 FOX) Athletics: 1 (1 FOX) Marlins: 1 (1 FS1) Mets: 1 (1 FOX) Phillies: 1 (1 FOX) Astros: 0 Blue Jays: 0 Mariners: 0 Rockies: 0 White Sox: 0
  22. Note his "Personal Claim to Fame": http://www.cbs.com/shows/survivor/cast/214786/
  23. JCL wins the day with the picture of the pitcher's GF with a pitcher.
  24. This will also give them a place to go during rain delays.
  25. The Nationals are stacked. They should win no less than 100 games and breeze their way to the World Championship. Anything less and the season is a failure... which is what I told my friends that are Nationals season ticket holders. I hope my friends suffer and suffer a lot. Let's see if Zimmerman's arm holds up at 3B, if Rendon can adapt to 2B and if they can get another year of steady production from the aging LaRoche. The rotation and bullpen are both excellent and I don't see many weaknesses, just questions. Can a virgin manager win a World Championship? We'll see. There are comments about how much more "fun" the players are having in ST this year (a shot at Davey, which makes me dislike them even more).
