  1. Nice tie-in JCL to this IGT as the Nationals play "Take On Me" after "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." They put the lyrics on the screen and when they get to: "I'll be gone/In a day or two", the volume is lowered and the crowd sings along.
  2. Thank you Edgy.
  3. [u:6r2i4kuy]THEM[/u:6r2i4kuy] Denard Span, cf Ryan Zimmerman, 3b Bryce Harper, lf Jayson Werth, rf Ian Desmond, ss Adam LaRoche, 1b Wilson Ramos, c Anthony Rendon, 2b Jordan Zimmermann, rhp
  4. Murphy hit two HRs off Zimmermann in G1 of that doubleheader. JCL was right about G1 of being the apex of the Mets hopes for contention. Crap, that means that G2 will be shown on MASN all winter. The infamous game from last year where someone named "Valdespin" hit a clutch HR and then booted a groundball in extras was just about shown on a loop. I'll be there tonight.

  6. This was EXACTLY the type of trade that Sandy needed to make, trading two players that won't help them win the pennant this year and won't be on the team next year for one of the Pirates best prospects. Maybe Dilson won't amount to anything but he has good numbers (that little body produces that much power?) and is a good addition for the Mets.
  7. Helluva mask and helluva power surge early in the season.
  8. Marlon had some trouble running the bases ("is it gonna fall in?") but other than that, a pleasure to watch. Really seemed to care about winning and being a Met. I think that he appreciated the fact that the Mets signed him when no one else would.
  9. The new guys thinks that Citi Field is "huge and beautiful": http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130806&content_id=56063574&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t525&sid=t525
  10. "Even An Ex-Met Can Look Like An Idiot In A Phillies Uniform"
  11. As a further gesture of goodwill, I urge the Mets to give Justin Turner to the Braves. That should even things out.
  12. It's Harvey v. Scherzer, a great showcase for baseball. And FOX has the game! They must be showing this to the entire country... wait, what?... only 14% of America gets the game. Once you realize that you're okay with not staying up to see the end of a playoff or World Series game, the next logical step is to realize that you're okay with not watching at all. Well put BG.
  16. He brought him in "eventually" but after the tying run had scored. Your point about designating innings is apt, especially when the "Closer" isn't there. What, Hawkins is too good to use in the 8th now?

Frayed Knot wrote: -- Would be nice if a manager could realize that the heart of the order and therefore the REAL save opportunity was in the 8th inning and bring in your best pitcher for then This. Why did TC leave in German (RH) against Headley (LH) when Feliciano was warming up? Was he saving him for the 9th?
  18. -- And KC 2nd/3rd baseman Miguel Tejada gets hit with a 105 games (huh?) suspension for his third positive test for amphetamines. That knocks the 39 y/o one-time MVP who did not play at all in the majors last year out for the remainder of this season and more than half of next; aka: this probably ends his career. The Royals should have to forfeit their two wins against the Mets when Tejada went 4 for 7.
  19. Good thread FK. Stop adjusting your batting gloves after every pitch. If you step out of the batters box without having hit the ball, it's a strike. Throw the ball already, you're going to have to so just do it. No more mound visits unless you are changing a pitcher--baseball is the only sport where the manager or a coach can stop the action and hold a meeting on the playing field. Most of all, if baseball is really serious about this, then cut the commercial time between innings--90 seconds is all we need (this will never happen). And no more "God Bless America" in the middle of the 7th inning.
  20. Just asking: the Braves are looking for a 2B, the Mets are looking for a place to play Flores, and the Mets system is short on position players, so would you trade Murphy to the Braves for a top prospect? I looked at the Braves minor leaguers and this name came up among OFers: Joey Terdoslavich http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=terdos001jos http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/7/5/4478240/prospect-note-joey-terdoslavich-atlanta-braves-promoted
  21. (I wrote this for a different thread but move it in deference to a published author.) ESPN exercised its right to pick any game from the Sunday schedule (as allowed by the Crypt Keeper himself) and move it to 8 PM regardless of where or when those teams will play the next day and selected the Mets @ Nationals game on September 1. Even though Harvey isn't pitching (perhaps Strasburg is), even though the game is likely meaningless (unless they want to analyze the Mets 9/1 call-ups!), and even though the Mets have a 1:10 game in Atlanta the next day (which might be the same day by the time the Sunday game ends), they picked this game (Oakland is playing Tampa, smaller TV markets but a better game). (The Nationals are out of town the next day as well but it's a night game and it's in nearby Philadelphia).
  22. Maybe they thought that Sandberg would be sought after by other teams so they wanted to lock him in. Maybe they want him to learn the team "first hand", or some cliche like that. If Sandberg was such a great managerial candidate, wouldn't the Cubs have signed him first?
  23. The MFPs fired their manager? I'm jealous.
  24. Google the bastard. It's Harvey night. Enjoy.
