From last night's A's-J's game: the 1B umpire blew a call against Oakland, the call was overturned, but it still cost Oakland a run. In other words, Toronto profited from a call that was overturned and therefore didn't exist. I wonder if the Wilpons would rather play a man short than call up a minor leaguer and have to pay him a major league salary. Some genius is saying "what are the odds that he's going to get in the game?"

Congratulations to Mike Hessman: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/07/01/mike-hessman-sets-the-international-league-home-run-record/

I wish that Gary hadn't said that.

Farnsworth was released by the Astros. Did he vow revenge against them, too?

Nice to see that Tejada has some supporters. I'm not one of them. I hope I'm wrong but even the GM agreed with me not too long ago. (FK: props for using "ersatz") Also, doesn't sending Flores down impede the progress of Matt Reynolds who was just promoted to LV?
-
Perhaps, but how does Tejada help the team? I believe that Tejada is a waste of time and a cardboard cutout of Bud Harrelson would be almost as good. I don't know what Flores is and I'd like to find out what he's got.
-
Certainly not his fault--it's his good fortune! I think that he'd clear waivers because no one would claim him but we'll never know because he's all ours.

Happy 40th Birthday "Jetes"! Eric Stangel ?@EricStangel 2m Happy 40th birthday to The Captain. Finally, a day to celebrate Derek Jeter

So we get to see Tejada, who (I feel) has little talent and no future as an everyday major leaguer, play every single frigging game, hitting .230 at best, instead of someone that played SS better than anyone expected who might have a major league bat. I guess that the plethora of OFers is rectified with an Abreau deadline deal (if Sandy can be bothered). Consider this: if Tejada was DFA'd, would any team want him? If so, would it be as a starter? Bench guy? AAA insurance? The Cardinals released Pete Kozma and I don't know if he's any worse than Tejada.

I thought that this was a thread about Cazzie Russell.

Niese is pitching so well that Terry will take him out after he gives up a walk or a single.

After seeing this, I stopped my "Write in Recker" campaign and decided to vote for Lucroy: http://deadspin.com/brewers-catcher-jonathan-lucroys-anti-cardinals-all-sta-1592323001

Perhaps and I understand your point (the Mets traded a .200 hitter) but I'd have preferred someone closer to the majors even without an alleged "high ceiling." We're lousy with high ceiling... but we're also lousy.

Another prospect that is 4 or more years away. I don't care. I want help for '15 because despite what the GM tells us, the Mets are not close.
-
He is also going to be on the same team as Kaz Matsui and Kevin Youkilis (currently on the DL).

Brown goes down and with him, a big chunk of the righty power off the bench. Bench: LH--Abreu, Nieuwenhuis RH--Q, Recker, Satin

For my son's birthday, I bought him a picture of Ike hitting his first homerun, autographed by Ike. It's framed and still on his wall.

Why did TC use Ike in the 8th, down 4-0, 2 out, no one on? He was the best (only?) lefty PH available and he has power so he should have been saved for a more critical situation (which obviously arose). If it was 1-0 in the 8th, fine but not 4-0, no one on.

Nassau Coliseum, at a New York Sets match (World Team Tennis). Really.
