  1. At least it was quick and they won't lose Wednesday night or Thursday night.

  4. The 8th pick is another big guy: 6'7", 230: Tylor Megill The 9th round pitcher is even larger: 6'7", 265: Bryce Montes de Oca (has been drafted twice but stayed in school).
  5. Born with 2 left thumbs and he has a great mustache! http://www.sanluisobispo.com/sports/college/cal-poly/article212362419.html 10th ranked C in the draft but the best fielder: https://www.mlb.com/news/top-catcher-tools-in-mlb-draft/c-278840372

  7. That's the Bautista I meant. It's hard to keep track of the roster on a daily basis. #NOTBREAKING: I have just been informed that Phillip Evans is not presently on the team. This negates my hilarious "Zager and Evans" reference. We regret the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
  8. Swarzek and Frazier return today. Who goes away? Bautista and Evans? Zager and Evans?
  9. Apparently, the Mets drafted him 2016 as well, so Sandy really must like him.
  10. Round 3 is only on mlb.com and it's us watching 3 guys listening to the picks. Way to go MLB! https://www.mlb.com/video/2018-mlb-draft-day-2/c-2107400183?tid=262722544
  11. The second-rounder is ranked in the mid-100s on most prospect lists, flashes 5 above-average pitches BUT offers nothing consistently good/great, and according to some whispers has a high asking price, given his commitment to in-state Texas. (And was taken with guys like Dallas Baptist stud OF Jameson Hannah and several other much more highly-regarded prep arms on the board.) Hot diggity dog! The write-up at mlb.com (under his name) isn't great: https://www.mlb.com/draft/tracker/round-2 but I guess he's signing: [tweet] [/tweet]
  12. It's Jarred (2 R's) Kelenick. Billy Ripken says that "he loves to swing the bat" and "he comes to play every day" so I'm sold. MLBN comps: Logan Morrison and Mark Kotsay.
  13. Fangraphs still has the Mets taking the under-slot guy, I mean Kelenic. India invades Cincinnati.
  14. Mickey said yesterday that Bruce is healthy and as we learned from the "pressure of New York" comment, he'll find an excuse if he can. Bruce will be traded in July to a team that will take his contract and Sandy will take a AA reliever who never helps the Mets. And then he'll get a few big hits and we'll go "What the hell?"
  15. Sandy thought: Swarzak/Belvins for the 7th Ramos for the 8th Familia to close. Done! He's solved the bullpen! Except that players get hurt/suspended or their performance deviates from their history. There is no depth, especially behind Blevins, but being short-sighted is the norm for Alderson.
  16. It's Draft Day! Fangraphs and The Big Lead have the Mets taking a cold-weather HS OF (Nimmo, the sequel). And because it's the Mets, they can save money which is more important to them than picking the best player available. 6. New York Mets – Jarred Kelenic, OF, Waukesha HS (WI) We think this is Kelenic or Florida third baseman Jonathan India, with late and hard momentum to Kelenic here for slightly below slot. If for some reason Mize doesn’t go No. 1 and goes at No. 3, that means Bohm is here, and they may prefer him to Kelenic, and it sounds like they do prefer him to India. They’ve been tied to some upside prep names in the second round like New York prep righty Lenny Torres, and they have been mentioned with Southern Miss righty Nick Sandlin in the third.
  17. Fman99 wrote: Robles has given up 16 HRs in 71 innings since the start of 2017. So, that sucks. And yet Sandy keeps him on the roster when he should be given away for what he is worth which is nothing. Did anyone think that he'd pitch a scoreless inning? Of course not. Yet Sandy ("8 and 8 is great") Alderson does nothing but add players that have been discarded by other teams and recycle the same players in and out of the bullpen.
  18. G. Bautista should be in AA or AAA learning how to pitch.
  19. Centerfield wrote: I think that my opinion of Callaway has fallen from “not the genius he was made out to be” to “dumb”. Let's hope that he's learning on the job and these mistakes will help him in the future.
  20. I wish that Hansel Robles would tweet something awful about Valerie Jarrett so the Mets could fire him.
  21. 41Forever wrote: Jay Bruce at first gets Nimmo, Bautista and Conforto in the lineup! But it means that Jay Bruce is in the lineup (I know that there is no one else to play 1st with Flores).
  22. Tim Britton with a gem about a gem. The Athletic requires $ but it's worth it. The rest of the Mets beat writers can go home. https://theathletic.com/374742?shared_by=133087
  23. From Tim Britton in The Athletic... this is our favorite team at work! The Mets technically played Tuesday’s game a man short, with only 24 active players. They did not make a corresponding move to Syndergaard’s placement on the DL. ... As mentioned above, the Mets entered the game with four available relievers, behind a starter averaging fewer than five frames per start and on a night when the forecast was shaky. (The game was delayed by 41 minutes at the start.) Matz leaving early was a worst-case scenario, but so was the game going to extra innings, or a rain delay forcing a pitcher out of the game prematurely. These were not unforeseeable. “Obviously that would have been nice,” Callaway said of calling up another arm for Tuesday’s game. “We just couldn’t do it. The timing of it with Vegas, we just couldn’t get a guy here.” ... Las Vegas’ geographic distance from the National League East poses obvious problems. But the club knew Syndergaard was experiencing soreness in his index finger after his side session on Monday afternoon. It knew it had another game that night started by Conlon and a shaky forecast for Tuesday with the potential for interruption. New York should be accustomed to the proactive thinking required by having a Triple-A affiliate so far away. This is the second time this season the Mets have played with only 24 in uniform.
  24. Maybe it will work and the Mets will get Cespedes next week!
