  1. Is there another comedian who wants a piece of the team (besides Bill Maher and Jerry Seinfeld)?
  2. bmfc1 wrote: Gonzalez is done. The Mets took the trash that 2 other teams discarded because he was cheap and--surprise!--he's not any good. Now that the season is on the verge of being over, call up "future star" Dom and let's see what he can do. We saw and it wasn't good. That doesn't mean that he's a bust but he's better off elsewhere for now.
  3. The Mets need a closer, that's funny! Oh, you're serious?
  4. The Daily News front pages have been awesome so I'll give them a pass for the dig on that back page.
  5. What's Trout supposed to do? Put out a rap video? Get arrested? He's married so Page Six can't report that he gives gift baskets to his dates. Maybe the league should orchestra a trade to the Dodgers to increase his profile. He's doing his job and is accessible to the media. It's not his fault that he excels in a sport where he doesn't touch the ball on every possession. He plays in a sport where the fans can eagerly anticipate his plate appearance and then he gets intentionally walked and he never swings the bat. I went to a game in Baltimore a few weeks ago because he was playing and I was lucky to see him hit a HR and make a great catch. His other 3 ABs: a groundout, a HBP, and an intentional walk.

Because Tebow hustles and plays the game the right way even with nothing to play for. And you will hear about it ALL OFFSEASON Definitely. A big swing and the ball trickles toward third. The 3B picks it up but because of Tebow's hustle, there is no play, Tebow gets a standing ovation and his fiancee is shown weeping in the stands.

  8. Get 3 runs and Jake gets the win.

  12. Very true JCL. I'm just going back to taking out Oswalt after 59 pitches and then taking out Lugo after only one inning.
  13. Self-inflicted wounds here. No need to take out Oswalt. No need to take out Lugo. Swarzak walks two and makes a bad throw to 2d. This is all on the manager, including the decision to put in Dom Smith.
  14. Mickey is treating this game like an exhibition game, trying to get even everybody work rather than trying to win. Lugo could have pitched this inning but Mickey wanted to give the incompetent Swarzak an inning before the break.
  15. I wouldn't take out a pitcher in the 5th who is rolling for a batter who is "struggling" but that's just me. I also wouldn't take out a pitcher after only one good inning when that pitcher is capable of pitching multiple innings and then bringing in a "struggling" pitcher just to give him work before the break.
  16. Why are they taking out Oswalt? 59 pitches and he's doing very well.

  19. Your team is below .500, way below expectations, you have a 1st-year manager and you're not sure he knows what he's doing, and you have a big name OF who is not giving you anything close to what you expected from him... it sounds familiar but you must be a Nationals fan! The Mets take on the sub-.500 Nationals today. It's Corey Oswalt (0-2, 6.75, 1.15 WHIP-!!!) against RHP Jeremy Hellickson (3-1, 3.47, 1.09). Hellickson comes off 5 IP and no ER against PIT but before that, he gave up 8 ER in 4 IP against Miami. He's only made 3 starts since returning from the DL so look for him to be gone after the 5th (unless the Mets have dispensed with him sooner). He might be leaving early if only to avoid facing a lineup for the 3d time: scroll to the "By Innings/Pitches" stats. http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/30506/jeremy-hellickson Against Hellickson, Jose Bautista is 12-35 with 3 HR, Asdrubal Cabrera is 11-26 with a HR, Jose Reyes is 12-33 with a HR (and Yoenis Cespedes has 3 HR--DAMMIT!). On April 16, he pitched 4 2/3 against the Mets (2 ER, 7 H). Corey Oswalt comes off his best performance as a Met, 6 IP and 3 ER against PHI. None of the Nationals have seen him before. Won't they be surprised! Since there isn't much to say about Corey how about Patton Oswalt: his Netflix special "Annihilation" is excellent. This is a big game. Sure, the Mets are out of it but it would be nice to go into the break on a 3-game winning streak. And it would make the Nationals 2 under .500 while making them and their dopey fans live with a 3-game losing streak until Friday.
  20. Goodbye Mike Matheney, now the former manager of the St. Louis Cardinals. I guess saying that it was simply "old school" for Bud Norris to bully a rookie was not a good idea. As for the new manager, Shildt Happens... Al Shildt. [tweet:15efax9z] [/tweet:15efax9z]
  21. The bottom of the 2d was a thing of beauty.
  22. Here's the Mets lineup for today: 1. Brandon Nimmo (L) CF 2. Asdrubal Cabrera (S) 2B 3. Jose Bautista ® RF 4. Michael Conforto (L) LF 5. Wilmer Flores ® 1B 6. Kevin Plawecki ® C 7. Jose Reyes (S) 3B 8. Amed Rosario ® SS 9. Zack Wheeler (L) P Reyes plays while Dom sits and while Dom is very bad (at the moment?), he is more likely to be part of the Mets future than Reyes so play him at 1B, move Wilmer to 3B (even though he will make at least one error there per game) and stop starting Jose. Here are the scumbags from Washington (not THOSE scumbags): 1. Adam Eaton (L) RF 2. Juan Soto (L) LF 3. Anthony Rendon ® 3B 4. Bryce Harper (L) CF 5. Matt Adams (L) 1B 6. Daniel Murphy (L) 2B 7. Trea Turner ® SS 8. Spencer Kieboom ® C 9. Austin Voth ® P
  23. It looks like a few teams are taking advantage of the All-Star break to add a bench player or another RP by sending SPs to the minors (e.g. STL did that with Luke Weaver who pitched on Wednesday and therefore won't pitch again until after the break). Could the Mets do that? They can't send down deGrom because it might impact his ASG status. Noah? Wheeler after today? It's likely not a big deal but if you can add a 3d catcher or really anyone who could be useful perhaps you should try.
  24. It was a very firm handshake. It looked like he could still play.
  25. I'm getting some questions from people who don't know me: "which one is you and which one is Carlos Baerga?" Valid question. I'm on the right.
