The Mets go for two in a row with Zack Wheeler (2-6, 4.42, 1.34) facing Austin Voth (per Federal Baseball: "pronunciation: \VOETH\)", a righty, making his MLB debut. Is this the last we'll see of Zack in a Mets uniform? For the bad guys, against Zack: Anthony Rendon is 7 for 20; Harper and Murphy have HRs. On April 17, Zack took the loss against WSH, going 6 IP with 3 ER. This is the 4th time that Voth will be in the disgusting Nationals uni this season but the first time that he will play. If the Mets did that with someone, we'd make fun of them. I'll start this one: Noah Syndergaard returns and just in time to save the Mets season! (Unimportant to you but I traded for him in fantasy four days before he went on the DL! Smart!!!). It's also a game against the team that I despise most of all in baseball. Plus, it's All-Star Weekend in Washington which means that there's room for activities that the local fans won't care about (it's hot out!) or understand (they stupid!). Did you know that Nationals season ticket holders who want to go to the ASG had to buy tickets to everything else this week? That means the Fan Fest, the Futures Game and the Home Run Derby. That might be why you can purchase a ticket for the Futures Game on Stub Hub for as little as $6. I'm going to the Fan Fest today but unfortunately, Ryan Church won't be there when I'm there (he's currently trying to find third base). Back to tonight's matchup: it's Noah Syndergaard (4-1, 3.06, 1.18 WHIP) against Tanner Roark (3-11, 4.76, 1.37 WHIP) who the locals want to impeach. The only National that has homered against Noah is Anthony Rendon (he's 7 for 20). Murphy is 3 for 14 (2 doubles) and Harper is 5 for 18). Against Roark, Nimmo, Conforto and Cabrera (4 for 13, 2 doubles) have homered. Roark has faced the Mets twice this year, way back in April when the world was bright and people were gay: on April 8, Roark pitched 5 innings, 5 ER; on April 17, 7 innings, 2 ER (the Mets won both of those games). Washington has been lucky enough to miss Noah all season (and let's not think about what happened to him last year in Washington).

They get another roster spot for the doubleheader tomorrow but who gets the call? They could send down Flexen, Beck and Sewald and call up 4 pitchers and we might not notice the difference with all of the transactions this year.

Interesting play in this morning's WSH game against Boston (11 AM start). No score, top 7, 1st and 3d for BOS, no out, the batter hits a foul pop-up to short left. Eaton (LF) runs in, slides and makes the catch (remember that it's a foul ball so he could have let it go but he caught it), the runner tagged, Eaton threw it home, FP (Mitchell Report) Santangelo, yelled "he left early" (he didn't), the throw was wild so the runner from 1st went to 3d which was key because he scored on a wild pitch. All that from a foul ball. WSH is now below .500 which I would enjoy more if the Mets were capable of taking advantage and if the locals weren't still happy about the Stanley Cup (which came after they first learned that there was a hockey team in town).
