  1. Good flick. There is some great dialogue and Phoenix's performance is top-notch. I'd have given him an Oscar nom for this one. I understand TMF's take, though...there's a lot of sci-fi going on. But like any good sci-fi flick, this one holds the mirror up to the truths of current reality. Jonze has only directed four features? I'd have to say this one is my fave.
  2. I'd have more sympathy if you weren't the defending champion with a healthy lead again this year. *wink*
  3. The best part about that picture is that George Lucas does not appear to be in the room.
  4. I enjoyed it. Another short thread here.
  5. It's a long season. Injuries will happen and change the landscape of the standings a few times over.
  6. Mets Willets Point wrote: Granted I haven't watched this in over 20 years but at the time I thought Ione Skye was one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen in a movie. I even sat through Gas Food Lodging because she was in it. And then I never heard of her being in anything ever again. Skye was (topless) in Tarantino-ish FOUR ROOMS in the mid-90s. She also had a very small role on TV's ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT. A very brief girlfriend I had loved SAY ANYTHING and it seems that anytime we hung out she wanted to watch it. I think I dated her for about 3 weeks and watched some if not all of that movie with her at least 5 times. It kind of turned me off to it (and her). IMO, Crowe has a pretty unique talent for making chick flicks that guys can sit through. I've enjoyed most of his work, but it's not stuff I need to see more than once.
  7. The difference with DeNiro is that he barely seems to be trying. His output these days seems to be either small roles in larger films where he doesn't have to work too hard or carry the load, to just awful 'Meet the Fokkers' kind of stuff that's so far beneath him you wonder why he bothers. I'd guess this is why he bothers: But, yes, he could be trying harder.
  8. I like Russell's work from the 90s (really like Three Kings), but beginning with I Heart Huckabees, I just haven't found his movies entertaining. This one was not an exception to that. I thought Amy Adams did well and that Bale borrowed heavily from DeNiro. Movies with "hustle" in the title should be exciting, right? Honestly, I barely made it through and at the end didn't really care who was hustling who anymore.
  9. Forgot about those Dodger games. Thanks!
  10. This must be the standings of our rosters now based on last year's stats? I knew this was going to be a rebuilding year, but this makes me feel less positive about my draft. Yikes!

  12. Right. Looks like others are now saying the 20th is a no-go on the Ottoneu board. Ceetar - I'm open all week, so it's all good for me. Did we ever hear what ABNS was planning to do?
  13. There seems to be some messages on the Ottoneu board from some non-CPFers who are looking to move the draft date from the 19th to the 20th. I'm OK with this, but don't know how it effects other folks.
  14. Intrigued by McConaughey's Oscar win and impressed with his work on True Detective this season, I rented Dallas Buyers Club today. I was not disappoingted by his performance or that of fellow Oscar winner Jared Leto. The movie was good but not great. My biggest concern was how many current $100 bills I seemed to see for a movie taking place in the 80s. I gave it 4 stars.
  15. Seen (41/87): 2012 - "Argo" 2010 - "The King's Speech" 2009 - "The Hurt Locker" 2007 - "No Country for Old Men" 2006 - "The Departed" 2005 - "Crash" 2004 - "Million Dollar Baby" 2001 - "A Beautiful Mind" 2000 - "Gladiator" 1999 - "American Beauty" 1997 - "Titanic" 1995 - "Braveheart" 1994 - "Forrest Gump" 1993 - "Schindlers List" 1991 - "The Silence of the Lambs" 1990 - "Dances With Wolves" 1989 - "Driving Miss Daisy" 1988 - "Rain Man" 1986 - "Platoon" 1984 - "Amadeus" 1983 - "Terms of Endearment" 1982 - "Gandhi" 1981 - "Chariots of Fire" 1980 - "Ordinary People" 1979 - "Kramer vs. Kramer" 1978 - "The Deer Hunter" 1977 - "Annie Hall" 1976 - "Rocky" 1975 - "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" 1974 - "The Godfather Part II" 1973 - "The Sting" 1972 - "The Godfather" 1971 - "The French Connection" 1965 - "The Sound of Music" 1964 - "My Fair Lady" 1962 - "Lawrence of Arabia" 1961 - "West Side Story" 1954 - "On the Waterfront" 1943 - "Casablanca" 1939 - "Gone with the Wind" 1938 - "You Can't Take It with You" Anytime: "No Country for Old Men" "The Departed" "Gladiator" "The Silence of the Lambs" "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" "The Godfather Part II" "The Godfather" Strap me to a chair: "Titanic" "Braveheart" "Forrest Gump" "Dances With Wolves" On a side note, I also rank movies based on whether they are on commercial stations or commercial-free stations. I'll even veto some of the "anytime" movies if I have to sit through commercials and edits.
  16. I have Amazon Prime (got it for the free shipping, the streaming is a perk), though it suffers from much of the same inadequate selection that Netflix does.
  17. I've never seen Stuart. After The Blues Brothers and Wayne's World (which are both better than average flicks), I'm not sure I've seen any of the others all the way through.
  18. Seo: is an internet cafe a possibility? I think the time difference would translate to being something like 2:00 in the morning in Europe, so I don't know if places are open that late. Otherwise, Seo can assign a trusted vice-GM to draft for him here in the states or he can pick over the waiver-wire. None of these are ideal...but, Europe, baby!
  19. Yeah...lots of cuts this off-season. The draft could be long if nothing else.
  20. 19th works for me.
  21. A Boy Named Seo wrote: I see updates for a trade block update... Miracle Monks's trade block has been updated! Miracle Monks on January 21, 2014 11:31 AM But, like, how do you view them? For what it's worth, the update of my trading block was removing guys I had on the block (since mid-summer) after I cut them. So, really nothing to see.
  22. I caught this yesterday. The shots and soundtrack are great (as one would come to expect from Scorsese). The acting performances are top-notch all around as well...one of my faves from DiCaprio in his career. This flick is not as deep as some Scorsese films and does have a little more farce, but I found the whole thing to be entertaining even given it's length. I'd be OK with not seeing Leo in a Scorsese film for a while, though. They are cultivating a Depp/Burton relationship that could keep things from staying fresh.
  23. On your team's homepage, there should be a link:
  24. Samuel L Jackson's first Tarantino, too!
