  1. I am all hit and no pitching this year...in the top two of all hitting categories, but at the bottom in all pitching categories. Shelby Miller and Matt Harvey are letting me down BIG TIME so far.
  2. When Travis is right, he can be excellent...he was a big part of the surge last season. I worry about his durability, even for a catcher.
  3. I'm worried about Travis. He's hurt A LOT. When he's not, he's often good but other times awful. I'm not close to 100% on Plawecki having the stick to be an everyday backstop on a championship team either.
  4. Centerfield wrote: It's very early, but I wouldn't be surprised if the current top 6 end up being the eventual playoff contenders. I was thinking the exact same thing.
  5. The Reds seem to be one of several NL teams (Milwaukee, Atlanta, Philly) who are doing very little to hide the fact that they are rebuilding.
  6. I'm very confident that the Nats will NOT finish with a winning percentage of .700+. They will hit some rough patches during the marathon of a full season. The Mets were 14-4 at the beginning of last season only to give up that surplus of wins in May and June. Still, the hot start by the Cubs and Nats signifies them as powerful teams in the NL (but I think we expected that, right?).
  7. F'n Ollie Perez gets the Nats to the 16th vs. the Twinkies with a bunt that causes a two-base-error allowing a runner to score from 2nd.
  8. Great road trip! Gary did some riffing on the L.A. band X after the Braves brought in Hunter Cervenka. He recommended Under the Big Black Sun to Keith. I'm not sure it is up Keith's alley. RKtIDB-w0Kw
  9. I fell asleep right before the rain delay and, upon waking during it, thought I had slept through to the end of the game (what are these Yankee highlights doing here?). I was glad to find I had just dozed and was being fooled by mother nature.
  10. Even though the Braves are finishing out this season at Turner Field before moving to new digs, the grounds crew may already be looking to next season: Braves may complain to union about condition of Turner Field infield Heads up Lucas, Neil, Asdrubal and David!
  11. Curt Schilling says he is ‘tapped out’ financially after the failure of his video game company This article is a few years old, but I'd bet he still needed whatever ESPN was giving him.
  12. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think he'll make 15 or 20 starts... That seems high...especially with Wheeler due back mid-season. Do you think his starts will be because of various injuries or a current starter meltdown? I think that if his success continues, it opens up a lot of options come trade-deadline time. Not necessarily for Verrett leaving...but again, the Mets should have a lot (too many?) ML starters.
  13. He's been a terrific spot starter so far. Also, a great attitude regarding his versatility: Adam Rubin wrote: "Really, whatever the role is -- starting, spot starting, relieving -- it doesn't matter," said Verrett, who allowed six hits and one walk while striking out six in a 91-pitch effort. "As long as we're winning ballgames, I'm happy to help."
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Omar believed in the sidearmers too, I think he always wanted the club to have at least 1 or 2 trick pitchers. Drafted Joe Smith, traded for Steve Schmoll, Sean Green, always Rule 5'ed some guy, employed Feliciano, signed Dickey etc etc. Bradford, Chad
  15. I know Gary was mentioning it last night and that we have not faced a lot of lefties this season, but there is something comforting about throwing the same eight batters out there every night...especially given that Terry has really liked to (or been forced to out of necessity) mix his lineups up over the years. I hope Curtis is starting to get on track. Travis looks even more lost. But I really like the 2-7 spots right now.
  16. Colon's making over $7M this season, but I'd also guess he is believed to be the odd man out when Wheeler is scheduled to return in July. So, yes, I think his leash is shorter this year than it was last year due to Verrett's success. Of course, everything is dependent on the health (and relative success) of the rest of the staff. I'm hoping each Verrett start keeps Matz on his toes, too...but I'm less worried about him than I was a week ago. Verrett deserves some sort of special reward for his spot starts which have been nothing less than excellent. He makes an embarrassment of riches even more embarrassing.
  17. Centerfield wrote: If they can win tonight, this could springboard them into a nice little run. Not for nothin', but 5 out of the last 6 already feels like a nice little run after that first week of the season. A win tonight could propel them to a nice BIG run heading to Atlanta who have issues of their own.
  18. Per Metsblog: Collins also confirmed that RHP Bartolo Colon will take the mound Wednesday in the series finale against Philadelphia, as scheduled. RHP Matt Harvey and LHP Steven Matz will start the first two games in Atlanta Friday and Saturday, with deGrom throwing in the series finale on Sunday. RHP Noah Syndergaard will start on Monday as the Mets open their series at home against Cincinnati.

  21. Early last year, I was worried that he might not have the stomach to be dominant in the majors. I think the confidence he has displayed early this year has elevated his game to where there are no limits.
  22. I'm trying to get my Schaefer groove back on for 2016 after not participating for a couple of years. I'm still looking to only vote in games I see with my eyeballs (which is hopefully mostly all of them). I'm digging the new system for sure.
  23. I've been pleasantly surprised by Asdrubal Cabrera. He may end up having limits in his abilities, but he seems to have lots of baseball smarts.
