  2. I don't like Campbell the hitter...as mentioned above, he is not aggressive enough at the plate, IMO. But I do appreciate the fact that he can back up nearly any position on defense. That is a quality I look for in a 25th man.
  3. JCL wrote: Believe that he gets at least a temp demotion this weekend while Gilmo returns as the swinger and Matz rests. I read this morning that Wilmer is going on the DL. Seems to me that a move like that would make Campbell the primary backup infielder and that he's not going anywhere soon. http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/mets/post/_/id/118301/wilmer-flores-headed-to-dl-with-left-hamstring-injury
  4. Centerfield wrote: He was definitely fishing for a walk there. I don't think this was isolated. He did this A LOT last season once he got to three ball count, too.
  5. I would consider Harvey/Conforto...but I would probably want to wait until the deadline and make sure there are no set backs in Wheeler's return.
  6. I'm looking for the best team, not the best player. The 2016 Mets As Is > The 2016 Mets As Is - Matz - Conforto + Trout

  8. Agreed. Cespedes is likely gone next year (though, that was the same thought most had late last season). You always have to look to the future, but 2016 should be a "go for it" year. They have Cespedes RIGHT NOW. I think Matz/Conforto/Wheeler are better pieces for the Mets in 2016 than the addition of Trout would be. The Mets' outfield is stable and productive right now. I'd rather be keeping tabs on a guy like Jonathan Lucroy just in case d'Arnaud can't heal and Plawecki's success over the past couple of games doesn't continue.
  9. Trout's amazing and I don't want to belittle his value, but to me, on the 2016 New York Mets, he doesn't fit a need big enough to sacrifice any of the players it would take to get him. Maybe two years ago, or even this past off-season before Cespedes was signed, Trout could have filled a missing piece. I understand that some of his value is based on future years, but the Mets should be in "win-now" mode and I wouldn't want to dent the surplus of young arms (and/or give away a young Conforto) to insert Trout into a lineup that should already be strong enough to compliment the young pitching staff.
  10. He's still a major douche, but getting better (barely). The "where's my ring" comment from two off-seasons ago still sticks with me. He's no Chipper Jones.
  11. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Syndergaard will break at some point. Nobody throws this hard this consistently and doesn't. True. This has been a worry for me since he was called up last season. He is the only young fireballer we have that hasn't had TJ surgery, IIRC. I'm also in the middle of the new Jeff Passan book on Tommy John and MLB pitchers' arms. I agree it is likely only a matter of time.
  12. Honestly, the offense, bullpen and even the defense has been far less concerning to me than I thought they would be back in Spring Training. The starting pitching still has some hiccups to iron out (ironically, that was my smallest concern five weeks ago), but overall I like this team tight now...especially if Plawecki can provide some offense.
  13. Plawecki has answered the bell the past two games...I hope it's the start of something great.

I wasn't sure if it would be a bunch of WFAN radio-caller bros (there were a few, but didn't encounter a single asshole in the bunch). Everyone we did meet was super cool and seeing that many Met fans outside Shea/Citi was bonkers for me, being a lifetime road-gamer. They sang 'Meet the Mets' and even had some soccer-style chants for individual players, not all of 'em worked, but credit for the effort. When Bart hit the homer, you woulda tought we won the World Series or something. Complete euphoria. For me, it was about the same level of crazy for the visiting fan as when Fonzie hit the HR off Bobby Chouinard in Arizona in '99, but that was a grand slam in the playoffs. This was just Bartolo Magic. Said hi to ring-leader, Darren. Seemed a real nice guy. Saw Jim Breuer in the pisser. Took a picture with Ron Burgandy. The whole 7 Line experience, I surprisingly recommend it. San Diego has great beers. I may have had one or two. Wish u were here #awhalesvagina I'm 7-lining in Milwaukee. Can't hardly wait.
  15. Coincidentally, this arrived at my house today:
  16. d'Arnaud has setback in shoulder rehab I thought Kevin Plawecki could hit.
  17. A Donald Trump-Curt Schilling 2016 Ticket Makes Way Too Much Sense
  18. Ceetar wrote: do we need to root? I don't particularly care which of them comes in third. That's some 2007 hubris right there. It's a long season. What if Harper slips on his hair gel, the weight of Strasburg's ears pinch a nerve in his neck and the Nats can't recover to compete? Couldn't one of MIA or PHI (or both) continue to breathe down the Mets' neck all season?
  19. The next chance of rain looks to be around game time.
  20. Nats put up 4 in the 8th, but the Cubs hang on to win 8-6. It would be nice to see the Mets take advantage tonight and cut into that Washington 1.5 game lead.
  21. Looks like lots of rain today (all through the day) in San Diego. I'm hoping that if they decide to call this one and do two tomorrow they decide earlier than 10:40 ET. It would be a bummer to stay up late and then not have a game to watch.
  22. How does a current Mets fan root in the Marlins/Phillies series that begins today? I'm not sure if I'm proud that four of the top five records in the NL belong to teams in the East...or petrified.
