  1. My dad is visiting tonight, so we will likely have it on...but in the background. I've got hives beginning to form just thinking about having to listen to Joe Buck in a few hours.
  2. Cespedes for sure. I wonder (hope) if Sandy is thinking of any ways of keeping him from opting out of his contract at the end of the year. In 137 total games with the Mets ('15 + '16), he's batting .295 with 38 HR and 96 RBI. A .949 OPS! Otherwise, I have been pleasantly surprised by Walker and Cabrera. Most everyone else are who I thought they were.
  3. Yeah, I think this goes beyond a roster move or three. If it would have come down to a play here or there, then maybe, but to my eyes, the Nats are clearly a better team than the Metsies this season. Other than the two of three the Mets took in DC back in May, the Mets have not been able to muster much against Washington. Period.
  4. Matt Harvey to have surgery to address thoracic outlet syndrome
  5. Yeah, I took the timeline to mean four months before he could even pick up a baseball. But the recovery time after that is a true unknown. I'm advising Matt to have the surgery. I don't understand why he would wait.
  6. For me, personally (and I don't think or expect anyone should feel this way), I'm willing to give Reyes the second chance. What he did was horrible and I could never think in reacting to any situation in that manner myself. He has to own that reaction and understand that he can never take it back. However, I do believe that he needs to have some path forward. He has served his MLB suspension, the criminal charges were dropped (and the reason for that can be debated, but the true facts on why are unknown to anyone but Reyes' family and the PD working the case) and he is still with his wife and family today. I can only take him at his word that he is sorry for what he did and that he is continually working on being a better husband, father and man. As far as his baseball career is concerned, I believe that the Mets were the best place he could have landed. I think the criticism that has been laid at his feet by the NY media and fans is good for him in order to own up to what he did. However, being back in a familiar place where he did some (most) of his best professional work hopefully motivates him to be that better man. I'm hoping that being in a pennant race where he can contribute gives a better purpose to his life so that he can share in those successes with his family. I said above that I was never a big fan of Reyes during his first tour. I appreciated the excitement he brought to the team and the stats on the back of his card, but as a player, he always came off as a "hot dog" and someone whose attitude toward playing presented itself as just a bit better than the player he actually was. His last at-bat as a Met in 2011 is a great example of this. I guess I'm hoping that this whole saga has humbled him a bit. I'm hoping he understands that he needs to prove himself (something I'm not sure he needed to do before). So from that perspective, I am rooting for him. I'm hoping that success in his professional career can signal growth and change for him as a person. YMMV
  7. Agreed with Soupy and Grimm both. I don't love Jose...I never really have. I appreciated him during his first run, but he was never one of my favorite personalities on the team...which pretty much sums up my feelings about Harvey.
  8. That was another great game on this homestand...big win! I'm not hip to all of the new defensive metrics. Cabrera's got to be one of the better shortstops in the league this year, right? I don't even remember Reyes being able to make plays like that (and Asdrubal has made several like that this season).
  9. Also, the SNY guys are now talking like Wheeler is now "if" instead of "when" in 2016. So much for the pitching depth.
  10. I would not expect to see Wheeler before August 1 at the earliest. He resumed throwing last Monday after his latest setback, but the team has not given a timetable for his return.
  11. This series represents a wide swing in the standings based on the outcomes. It makes for exciting baseball before the break.
  12. That was a fun game, a good series and this has been a great homestand. I would love to finish it off by taking 3 or 4 from the Nats!
  13. David's still eligible to return by the end of the month. sc=99.4%
  14. d'Arnaud tells ESPN that #18 is for Peyton Manning.
  15. Confirmed in the game notes: http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/documents/8/7/6/188062876/07.05_Mets_Game_Notes_zlfa07zv.pdf [youtube:36vxac5f]jXZcJojTucg[/youtube:36vxac5f]
  16. With three starters (Noah, Jacob and Bart) having ERAs sub-3.00 and Matz with an ERA sub-3.50...could Harvey be the odd man out if/when Wheeler returns? It's likely at least a month away, but I'm wondering how long Harvey can rely on patience.
  17. Yeah, you're never as good as you think you are when you're on a winning streak and never as bad as you think you are when you're on a losing streak.
  18. How long has it been since Terry's thrown out a lineup that looks that fast on paper?
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Who does he replace on the roster? Reynolds? On the 25-man, Reynolds is likely to get bumped. I believe Reyes would also have to be added to the 40-man. I'm guessing they 60-day DL Wright to make room, no?
  20. While I was on the wagon to re-sign Jose, I'm not so sure he should get his old number and lead-off spot back right off the bat. He still has a lot to earn.
  21. Edgy MD wrote: Grandy healthy enough to answer the bell. There's that. Not so fast...
  22. Sadly, I'm not so sure that the Mets are looking at Gourriel as a solution for this season.
