  1. Found it from Jayson Stark, lost in the Santana scuttle: Once the Santana trade is done, expect the Mets to swoop into the free-agent market to add an outfielder to replace Carlos Gomez. One name they've kicked around: Kenny Lofton. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=3225433 Though, I agree, he doesn't patch up any holes.
  2. Weren't we rumored to have interest in Lofton?
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: My concern is that he may not give us the production a contending team should get from a starting corner outfielder. I hear that arguement a lot, but don't you have to weigh that concern somewhat with the fact that we have one of the best offensive CFs in the game and that most teams don't have the pop in center. Because our centerfielder hits like a rightfielder, can't we have a rightfielder that hits like a centerfielder?
  4. Why do some peeps have Ryan Church/RF as a concern? Granted, I don't know a huge amount about him, but IIRC, his 2007 OPS+ numbers were better than the Milledge, Green, Nady, etc. that we've had lately. I know there is a difference in his L/R splits, but the difference was there for our former RFs as well. If he stays healthy, I think he's a slight improvement over what we have had.
  5. 1. Can we get 25+ starts from Pedro? 2. Can we get 25+ starts from El Duque? 3. If 1 and/or 2 are answered no, can Mike Pelfrey make up those starts with quality outings on a consistent basis? 4. Can Alou stay healthy enough to get 400+ ABs? 5. Can Sanchez solidify the bullpen and bring it back to early '06 form?
  6. Posted mid-split.
  7. I think his numbers will improve slightly this year. Delgado's production is not in my top 5 lists of concerns for 2008. (Although, it's probably number 6)
  8. 2007 No Black 2006 Black Caps Only 1999 All Black Coming back to the pinstripes is nice.
  9. I've always liked Freddy. He could be a needed addition down the stretch.
  10. "Hey, Brian...that goalie mask looks dorky. Joe Mauer would never wear that."
  11. metirish wrote: .....way too much blue in that picture....really I dont like that helmet and hope it's only for practice. I'm guessing that is his ST helmet to match the BP/ST blue jerseys. Once the season starts he'll probably have 2 or 3 to match each ensemble. Yes, even a black one. I would go old style mask with my ballcap turned backwards.
  12. Hockey style catcher's masks are dorky.
  13. David Justice - 1990 NL ROY award winner and a Met for 7 days in December of 2001: December 7, 2001: Traded by the New York Yankees to the New York Mets for Robin Ventura. December 14, 2001: Traded by the New York Mets to the Oakland Athletics for Mark Guthrie and Tyler Yates.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Butch Metzger. Couple of decades early...and he was picked up off of waivers.
  15. Beltran did win an AL ROY in the 90's, but he was acquired by the Mets via free agency. The question isn't terribly specific, but it is referring to NL ROY winners. The 3rd player was traded to the Mets.
  16. Piazza and Nomo are correct. One more needed.
  17. While we're waiting for any news...here is the monthly trivia question for February from the Mets calendar hanging in my office: No Mets player won the Rookie of the Year Award during the 1990's, but three of the 10 winners were later traded to the Mets. Who were they? No peeking.
  18. With 72 hours, I can't imagine one side or the other not saying "Let me sleep on it."
  19. Radiohead
  20. If you've seen Castaway, Dawn of the Dead and the 2 minutes of Vanilla Sky where Tom Cruise speeds through a deserted Manhattan, then this movie doesn't offer anything new other than mashing it all together. In retrospect, the most interesting part of my experience was the 6 minute preview for the new Batman movie...only because I thought it was the beginning of I Am Legend. I kept thinking, "Where are they going to go with this?"
  21. I saw it on New Year's Eve at an IMAX theatre. It was a decent passage of time for 100 minutes, but not a terribly memorable film for me. I thought Smith did a better than average job in this movie. His performances in "Ali" and "The Pursuit of Happiness" are slowly changing my opinion of his acting ability after the crap he had been putting out for the previous 15 years.
  22. Thank god! I'm jonesin' for some baseball.
  23. From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel 8 days ago: Wise has worn No. 38 for the Brewers, but that uniform was given to Eric Gagne at Monday's press conference and no mention was made of Wise having surrendered it. We think this would be quite a mistake for the Brewers. Wise is easily a better bet than Guillermo Mota for 2008 and probably Salomon Torres, as well. He did struggle down the stretch on his way to a 4.19 ERA last season, but much of that was attributed to some mental issues after he threw a pitch that broke Pedro Lopez's cheekbone. He'll be a smart pickup if the Brewers let him go.
  24. Wise was a fan favorite in Milwaukee and puts up dependable numbers. An improvement over Mota in my opinion.
