1. Internet abuzz with reports that Bryce turned down a shorter deal with a $45M AAV. That's insane. Would Harper have been leery to re-enter the market in, say 4 years, at 30 years old after bagging $180M? That he wanted security for 13 years instead sez to me that even the upper echelon players are wary of hitting free agency anywhere near 30 years old and up.
2. that $25M per year is not so outrageous in the end. Phils obv have to pay him 4 or 5 years when he's decidedly post-prime, but what is $25M in 2030 gonna be anyway? Seems a good deal for both.
3. Wild. 13 years/$330M, no opt-outs. Signed through age 38 season.
4. He's from Wyoming. He prob just likes his chicken medium-rare.
5. Somewhere out there, Bryce Harper is telling his agent to send counter offers to all his suiters.
6. How long til Cano pulls a something?
7. McNeil LF Lagares CF Conforto RF Alonso 1B Broxton DH Gimenez SS Neat-o C Thompson 3B Herrera 2B for those scoring at home
8. I'm sure there would have been some kind of press release if this were true, but the white outline on the orange Mets on the blue shirt seems to pop more this year. Is it thicker? Or are my eyes just so happy to see them again that they look prettier?
9. Game is on MLB Network NOW!!!! Thor and Verlander to start.
10. GF and I watched the outrageously cheesy and fun Cobra Kai on YouTubeTV and there on Daniel LaRusso's desk sat a Keith Hernandez bobblehead doll that I didn't notice at all, but my keeper GF did. She even knew who it was.
11. Next birthday, imma take both your websites out for a night of shots! Congrats guys, on two indispensable Mets creations!
12. Maybe not the easiest fix, but relegations would be the coolest. But practical changes like raising the minimum salary, letting players get to arbitration and free agency earlier also make sense (for the players). If you're not Bryce Harper, you get paid shit through pre-arb and arb, then then might get ignored for another guy getting paid shit when you finally hit FA. Maybe also a minimum salary floor, or requiring that all revenue sharing be re-invested in scouting, player development, or player acquisition (no personal debt, off-field expenses).
13. I adopted the best prospect. Dig this vid Poppa Wilson made of how proud he is of his kid, and of their shared love of the beautiful game.
14. Those wires run right up into his junk, poor Jeffrey.
15. Ah, he's only gonna be 35 in April. I'm sure everything's gonna be just fine.
16. [CROSSOUT]it might be for all I know.[/CROSSOUT] It is 69. I read 86 because my 11-year old, 1986 brain wanted it to say that. Tickets still expensive!
17. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Looking like a super quick stop-over in late June, but shooting to double my money with the Friday, June 29 / Saturday June 30 back-to-back v. Atlanta. If anyone else might be in da house... Turns out that June weekend is the 86 Anniversary celebration. Good lawd, decent seats are pricey! Is that some kinda gold-tipped, platinum tier weekend or am I just as cheap-assed as the ownership?
18. I missed ep2, but ep3 was his first solo podcast and he talked about baseball in general (he's not in favor of changing the game to appeal to young/new fans and thinks players will simply adjust to this or that thing that is the current front office inefficiency). He talked about how important velocity is for a young pitcher in a way that made me think of Mike Pelfrey/Rick Peterson. But he was also heady enough to know that it's important, but not everything as he talked about Jason Vargas schooling Brooklyn hitters on a rehab assignment. Next podcast is from spring training! Go Tommy!
19. The Pads could certainly use one Mr. Todd Frazier in their current lineup. WATP alert: I propose we send Frazier (makes $9M) + Matz ($2.6M) for #11 prospect Stormy Weathers Junior and #23 ranked, 3b prospect Hudson Potts (cause I like his cool name). Then we go and sign Dallas Keuchel to slot in behind Wheeler, using most of those Frazier buxxx. JD Davis (then Alonso) gets most of those Frazier AB's and a fierce battle-to-the-death ensues for that 25th roster spot.
20. 26-year old superstar, Wil Myers, Eric Hosmer, bunch of young studs and one of the top farms overall... this team needs some SP's
21. Has anyone seen the terms yet? EDIT: 10 years / $300M per MLBTR
22. WTF GO PADRES.
23. I have a feeling it'll be closer to MFS62's number of games prediction than Smiggy, but I'll say he goes .270/.325/.480 over maybe 40 games. He will hit a memorable, Kibson-esque limp-off-the-field game-ender the day before he goes back on the 10-day DL for heel tendonitis or some shit.
24. I don't know if funny is going to be his ticket necessarily. But I hope this thing becomes a window into the life of a working ballplayer anyway.
25. I picture Endy's home to have little trampolines everywhere and he just takes these giant leaps from room to room.
