  2. =metsmarathon post_id=50945 time=1605736046 user_id=83] jeez, what a stupid, stupid thing to've done. but yeah, it does help to alleviate some of our logjams for this year at least. next year, well.... we'll deal with that next year.
  3. But seriously the Mets have gotten "lucky" with gargantuan salaries making themselves disappear the last two seasons.
  4. Please keep using for 3 more years, Robby
  5. =bmfc1 post_id=50903 time=1605721443 user_id=73] He didn't walk, he used a Hoverboard and went to a newsstand near the Clock Tower.
  6. I'm here for that speculation.
  7. I was hoping the same, but apparently he immediately said that he didn't want other work, and wants to just hang for a year. I think he would've been ideal as the Director of Ops dude.
  8. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Kim Ng hired as the Marlins' GM. A bit more than a bit overdue, it seems, but still cool. We wanna go the overqualified-ladyroute, there are still some options out there nearby, like https://theathletic.com/876076/2019/04/11/yankees-exec-jean-afterman-wants-to-see-a-team-hire-mlbs-first-female-gm-shed-just-rather-it-not-be-her/Jean Afterman. I love it, but it doesn't sound like she's all that interested. I mean, the Kim Ng hire was an incredible get for the Marlins. Her resume is stacked. I don't know how many women are languishing in the the executive ranks throughout MLB, but they're clearly overlooked resources by most every other team. You wanna assemble the best front office? Including the other half of the population is a start.
  9. A lot going on in this round between the doubleheader flop, the Frazier trade, Tom's passing, Pete's memorable HR, and Steve's purchase. I think that the look of the Newsday cover is for their anniversary. G-Fafif wrote about his search for the papers remembering Tom: http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2020/11/17/a-rainy-goodbye/http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2020/11/17/a-rainy-goodbye/ . That makes more sense from a Back-to-the-Future-timeline-of-events perspective.
  10. So that Newsday cover is running away with it. I voted for it cause it looks cool and it's different, but does the aesthetic also create the vibe that Seaver dying could've been an event in the late 60s?
  11. That one is good. I also thought DELAY OF GAMES really captured a couple of 2020 moments, the protest which spanned all pro sports and Dom wearing a mask as they walked off the field. Good pic.
  12. No, I cannot will this into existence. Per my buzzing phone, Theo is taking a year off. The beat goes on.
  13. Wow he's 32? I woulda guessed 35 or 36. He's a decent option. Gained a full MPH on his fastball in 2020 and his K/9 went up by 1, too. It's probably not his agent's pitch to other teams, but "Masahiro Tanaka: You Could Do Worse" seems about right.
  14. So Theo is leaving the Cubs today after 9 season in charge. He was President of Baseball Ops there. Can I will this into existence?
  15. Some pretty good covers here. I predict a finalist emerges from this field!
  16. Yeah, not a terribly likable bunch, huh. Vizquel was just wonderful. LaTroy must've been a lot better than I remember. I think I would vote for only Barry Zito on the stipulation that his induction speech is just him noodling a bunch of Phish covers on acoustic guitar.
  17. I'm fine with Charlie Morton, maybe less so with Odorizzi, who seemed to break free of mediocrity for one year in 2019. But the main thing is I don't want is just 5 dudes. I've been crushing on the Dodger model for years of having 7 or 8 legit starters and, of course, all of them get used over the course of a season, even a short one. I just hate the scramble whenever one of our dudes inevitably goes down and we're like "Walker Lockett? Gsellman even know we know that doesn't really work? Or maybe move Lugo again?" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  18. I liked "Andres the Giant" and "wrestling the rubber game away", but ultimately that cover is probably too crammed full of stuff to go the distance. I love the photo on "OMG!" but really, OMG? Nice to have some options, though.
  19. HEARTBREAK YO-TEL got me. The dude up and left his hotel room! That's gold, Jerry, gold!
  20. Geek Squad works cause, man, Pete looks like a dork in that pic.
  21. I'm fine trading for Lindor but this Lindnor character batmags is talking about is a damn imposter
  22. I figured one of these woe-is-me billionaires would find 3 years, $50M (or MLBTR predicted 4 years, $68M). The Mets pitching was so gross last year, I hope they aren't content with just Stroman, but I'm happy he's back.
  23. Meet the Masks! captures 2020 pretty well. Man, I miss seeing in-action stuff.
