  1. what, me worry? https://twitter.com/martinonyc/status/1611400838919950336
  2. I'm not really stressing the mystery team. At this point, no team is going to pip the Mets' offer when there's clearly something scary on the medicals. And I don't see how Correa is served taking another short deal and doing it all over again next year. If he's really walking around with an ankle that was repaired with duct tape and Big League Chew™, any team that beats the Mets will soon find the same befuddling shit on the X-ray, so... These re-negotiations should protect the club pretty well and I'm sure Carlos will still make truck loads of dough over the next decade.

  4. I went BATTY. It seems like Newsday went out of their way to obscure the New York on Nimmo's jersey while the Snooze moved stuff around so you could see it.
  5. This is a great landing spot for him, too. Rebuilding team where he should get plenty of low-pressure ABs in a park and division he's familiar with.
  6. Two kinda similar entries, both really nice action shots of the hitter (Pete's is pretty perfect, isn't it?). Bold white headline text for each, with Lindor's text nested behind his leg and Pete's boldly overtaking his. You can get with... this Or you can get with that You can get with... this Or you can get with that
  7. And the eye black and the baseball mitt. It's all but a done deal.

  9. Very likeable guy , I wish him well. Eyes always looked sleepy to me Same on the sleepy eyes. Around these parts, we'd take to calling him "sleepy Dom" when he was in a rut and "woke Dom" when he was hot. May he be forever woke except against us.
  10. Signed by the Nationals, metirish first. He seemed a curious draft pick, a first basemen who hadn't developed power yet, but I enjoyed him immensely when he arrived and wish he could've sustained that 2020 success. Good luck, Dom. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/nationals-to-sign-dominic-smith-to-one-year-deal.htmlhttps://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/01/nationals-to-sign-dominic-smith-to-one-year-deal.html
  11. :'-( Was there ever a 'memories of' thread?
  12. LATE SHOW has now added 2 votes, as mail-in ballots begin to trickle in. John King has been summoned to dissect this massive shift in the CPF electorate. https://cdn.cnn.com/cnnnext/dam/assets/160531120754-ip-trump-possible-electoral-map-00000314-super-169.jpg>
  13. IMPORTANT CARLOS CORREA UPDATE: A couple hours ago, he posted a picture of him holding his kid with the caption "Going to work with daddy today" and his kid was wearing an adorable t-shirt that read "I HEART NY" but the I was a hot dog and the heart was a pretzel. Beat that hot scoop, Jon Heyman.
  14. The needle has been moved by 1 vote, even with whippoorwill's defiant Vogel-support! YES WE CAN!
  15. A more compelling case cannot be made! Change your vote, people! Nimmo/Butt 2023!
  16. I feel like I'm voting in California after the race has already been called, but LATE SHOW get its. Great action shot that fills the page. The headline text sits behind Dom's slide because the action is that good. Plus Nimmo's butt. 'BACH is kinda the opposite. Nice shot of Pete and Dan bro'ing down like bros do, but the headline and sub-headline take up at least 60 or 65% of the page and sit over the image because no big deal really.
  17. I got an unexpected box from my godsons in San Diego and these were inside: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-APu-UO4ndU/maxresdefault.jpg> I don't care how old I get, I will never be too old for these, and would rock the hell out of them if I weren't afraid of getting them dirty, even slightly. Plus I would feel like https://preview.redd.it/1h2kyaikb3r71.jpg?width=640&crop=smart&auto=webp&s=ac110bd7cf26bf2acf0c6cb7376109765e3e35f5Ted Lasso with these on. 1) would you wear these kicks? if not, why? 2) did you get anything Metly this year?
  18. Hold the phone yall The New York Mets, like the San Francisco Giants earlier in the week, have raised concerns about Carlos Correa's surgically repaired lower right leg, potentially jeopardizing their 12-year, $315 million agreement with the star shortstop, according to people briefed on the matter who were not authorized to speak publicly. https://theathletic.com/4033222/2022/12/24/mets-correa-physical-concerns/?source=user_shared_articlehttps://theathletic.com/4033222/2022/12/24/mets-correa-physical-concerns/?source=user_shared_article

A woman can consent multiple times and still change her mind. Especially if her face is being bashed in after giving consent. So after she had her head and face roughed up and beaten, after all of that ... then she withdrew her consent? Is that what you're saying? Anyways, I don't think she ever withdrew her consent. No, but I am saying that if a women consented to rough sex and it was way more dangerous and painful than she'd agreed to or expected, then hell yes, she has every right to withdraw her consent, and it doesn't matter fuck all at that point from what she agreed to the day before via text. But you're right, she didn't withdraw her consent. From what https://theathletic.com/2682479/2021/06/30/graphic-details-photos-emerge-in-restraining-order-filed-against-dodgers-pitcher-trevor-bauer/she alleged (link) , she couldn't even withdraw her consent as she was choked unconscious both times they got together, the first time waking up to being penetrated and the second time being punched in the head. You can't consent to shit when you're unconscious. Whether we agree on that point or not, hopefully you can acknowledge sexual consent is more than just clicking "I agree" on an iTunes EULA and that Trevor Bauer is still a complete and total douchebag.
  20. A Boy Named Seo wrote: Regardless, I don't root for dudes who think beating the shit out of women is sexy. You? I'm with you. I'd imagine that most people would find Bauer's behavior not only repulsive and despicable, but also incomprehensible. Still, Bauer's case should or should've been decided based on principles of fairness and justice, not based on what you or I like or don't like. If his accuser consented, than Bauer should be exonerated. One guy on this forum (read this thread) argued for punishment because of how badly his accuser was beat up. Which to me, is absurd. If she consented, she consented and her consent should give Bauer a complete defense so long as a person is legally allowed to consent to the behavior she consented to. It shouldn't matter how badly she was beat up if she gave legal consent. Otherwise, we might as well have a stupid rule where a boxer is allowed to beat up his opponent -- but not too badly. And if the boxer beats up his opponent too badly, he goes to jail. Anyways, an MLB hearing is not like a criminal courtroom hearing or trial. The rules of evidence in baseball are very different -- laxer -- and MLB's standards for what's permissible and what's not are very different from the regular real world. I believed Bauer's defense from the start after reading the public material very thoroughly. It's telling that he wasn't charged criminally, especially with him being a wealthy celebrity. Prosecutors love to go after big shots. Also, I think Bauer's MLB career is over. He's a pariah. And I hate to use such inflexible words like "never" because everybody, I mean, everybody comes back. Tonya Harding. PeeWee Herman. Everybody. But I don't think Bauer will. Close to 7,000 view here? Wow. That's a lot, isn't it? When you talk about his case, I'm guessing you mean his suspension with MLB? The LA DA didn't press charges against him, so maybe his legal case was "decided based on principles of fairness and justice" and he wasn't arrested. Good for you, Trev. MLB, which we saw with Bauer, can administer punishment with or without charges or arrests (this looks like the MLB domestic violence policy http://content.mlb.com/documents/2/9/2/296982292/Major_League_Player_Joint_DV_SA_CA_Policy_English_2018.pdfhere). The league can interpret their own policy however they want, I guess. And they suspended the dude, Bauer appealed and it got reduced. Good for you again, Trev. On consent, I think it's critically important we all keep in mind that a woman can consent and change her mind. A woman can consent multiple times and still change her mind. Especially if her face is being bashed in after giving consent. There's also a lot of discussion around power dynamics with the increasing volume of #metoo and Trevor had SO MUCH POWER over his accusers, from his status as celebrity and how he'd already wielded that power online against critics, and also the abject fear his accusers probably felt, if he hurt them in any way beyond what they had agreed to take part in. There's a lot to consider when reading texts or hearing him grunt "she consented". All that's to say, it's now in the hands of potential employers and if the Dodgers or any other team doesn't want to hire Trevor Bauer to be an employee and represent their brand, then sorry, Trev, you can eat rocks. And there will be a TONS of noise from conscientious fans if any team comes sniffing around him, as there should be. TL;DR Trevor Bauer is still a Douchebag and can suck a fuck
  21. A Boy Named Seo wrote: This thread was tough to revisit. The video where Bauer tries to explain everything away is nauseating. Glad it sounds like the Dodgers will move swiftly on from him. I don't want to see his ass on my TV this year, or ever again TBH. And I can't imagine any woman who's been hit by a man would either. ~~~ Also, I hope LFWS and Seawolf get over their hiatuses soon. If we're making a wish list I want Vic Sage back to discuss the Knicks. Bauer claims everything that happened was consensual. There have been past abusers of women - Jose Reyes in particular - who had no such defense. Why is it that only Bauer seems to get the "I never even want to see him again treatment"? Did ANYONE say that about Reyes when the Mets brought him back? I don't have a count for who felt one way about Reyes and another about Bauer. I don't want to see any abuser on my TV, though I'm glad Reyes was at least contrite and hope he put in some work. Regardless, I don't root for dudes who think beating the shit out of women is sexy. You?

  24. =metsmarathon post_id=115378 time=1671727759 user_id=83] oh no, a professional sports player didn't personally and immediately apologize to me for accepting many more buckets of money than my team was willing to pay him, and than i may have thought prudent, and may even not have actually enjoyed being a part of the team as much as i imagine myself to surely have were i given the opportunity. what a terrible person he must be. i resent him for ever letting me root for him. he can now go straight to hell. or texas. same difference.
