That would give us Scherzer, Verlander, Senga, Carrasco, Megill, and Peterson, backed up by Lucchesi, Yamamoto (is he still around?) and... Butto? I'm guessing you're right, but 3 fellas in their late 30s and a player making his MLB debut anchoring the rotation would make me a little queasy. I would ideally like to replace all of JdG, Taijuan and Bassit (I'd happily take Bassit back). Funny that Rodon, whose been injured pretty much his whole career, looks like such a safe bet to me.

  3. Taijuan showing up at the team shop with his Taijuan Walker-sized Amex card and picking up the bill for fans on pride merch. There's are lot of ways to support pride or stay all the way clear if that's who you are, but hanging out at the shop, posing for selfies with a giant smile in every pic and saying “put it on my tab” is hella cool. Good tidings to you, Taijuan Walker. Also I loved #99. I had his blue jersey in my virtual cart for half the season and now I can get it on clearance. #genius
  4. Andrew Heaney joins deGrom in Texas for a reasonable (to me) 2 years/$25M (plus tons of incentives). Always super talented and always super hurt. He and his new homie JdG might be spending lots of quality time together in the Texas rehab room this season.

  6. =smg58 post_id=113981 time=1670270614 user_id=62] I'm not at all convinced that throwing money at pitchers is the best way to go right now. Scherzer wasn't worth his salary last year, and Verlander has to duplicate last year twice to be worth his. That being said, I've always been a fan and if there's any chance of him getting to 300 in a Mets uniform..
  7. Mets seem to be hot for Jameson Taillon. Aside from the nebulous bullet point on his resume that he "can pitch in New York", he seems pretty much a like-for-like replacement of Taijuan Walker (MLBTR both project them at 4 years/$50-ish million). Taillon (or Walker) and Ghost Sinker would leave me in positive mood.

Coming back from those two surgeries and winning a Cy Young is terrific and largely ameliorates that, but it's still there. Those are his pre-Met rest years. Through that demented sphere, it becomes a thing to be grateful for. I've been spending the last several minutes comparing JdG and JV from different points in their career. Go have fun everyone: https://stathead.com/tiny/6r0PFhttps://stathead.com/tiny/6r0PF
  9. Getting Rodon feels greedy now, but I'd love to land the Ghost Sinker.
  10. I'm oddly optimistic of this signing. The number next to 'age' is the only thing not to like about him. He's a tick below JdG stuff-wise, but his stuff is actually on the mound eating up very good innings. Plus his velo has held strong at 95 for years. We just can't afford a one-year "changing leagues and teams" dip or any other such bullshit. Also, we do have two alpha dogs fighting for number 1 alpha dog position??
  11. What is higher? Max and Verlander's combined age or combined salary? Either way, two enthusiastic thumbs up from where I sit.
  12. =metirish post_id=113720 time=1670030463 user_id=72] I'm staying away from Twitter 🤣 It was certainly a pleasure to with him pitch , all the best I guess, not where I would want to end my career but that money will soften the blow
  13. No no no no no no
  14. O'Malley and the pillbox cap are the real all-stars
  15. Bassitt Hounded/bark in the park/"ruff" night made me LOL
  16. =whippoorwill post_id=113308 time=1669070441 user_id=79] Good grief 40?
  17. Mets had a zoom call with him. Apparently kicking his high-performance, well-worn tires as an alternative to JdG, should he bolt for warmer climes. Per https://theathletic.com/3916089/2022/11/20/mets-verlander-free-agency/Rosenthal/Athletic, "Verlander is expected to command a multi-year contract with an average salary in the range of Scherzer's record $43.3 million." JV, turning 40 next February, makes deGrom seem "youthful" and Scherzer "spry". He also just won a Cy, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  18. Boo, I say. Boo.
  19. Combining all announcements into one thread. The Mets acquired two Pitchers from the Marlins: According to Mike Puma of The New York Post, the Mets have acquired a pair of pitchers from the Miami Marlins in Elieser Hernandez and Jeff Brigham in exchange for minor league pitcher Franklin Sanchez. https://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/new-york-mets-acquire-elieser-hernandez-jeff-brigham-from-marlins-tradehttps://www.si.com/mlb/mets/news/new-york-mets-acquire-elieser-hernandez-jeff-brigham-from-marlins-trade Later I believe a Mets message board can withstand more than one thread for Mets player acquisitions.
  20. That doesn't sound real promising. The comments are predictably twitter.
  21. Bummer for QAnon FC. I'm not even sure if they'll kick a ball at this point? MLS/USL has existed in the same market but the USL side rarely fares well, if they survive.
  22. If it's largely upscale apartments/condos, it probably wouldn't do much to help residents except provide more inventory, but if they bake somewhat more affordable housing into it, I'd be very intrigued on if/how they pull it off.
  23. Curious to know more about the housing angle in the deal... but NYCFC finally has a home! And maybe this means Queensboro FC finally becomes a team?
