I mean, the games were close and Daniel Murphy sucked and made critical errors and Zobrist was good. It's not really a stretch to see it going differently if you swapped them. I'm no rules expert, but I don't think MLB allows trades turning the World Series and I seem to recall Murph being kind of important to us in the getting-to-the-World-Series part.
  2. Yeah, so I guess he was available. Simmons to the Angels for Aybar and 3 kiddos (2 pitchers and a catcher). Those were Anaheim's top 2 pitchers apparently, so our equivalent of that is probably goes Flores + Matz and maybe more. I'm cool skipping that one.

That freak error aka the inside the parker was the real killer in Game #1. I wish people wouldn't try and extrapolate so much deep meaning from five games. I find all this over- analysis so tedious and tiresome, I barely read any of it anymore. I'd rather just enjoy the WS for the spectacle that it is and the history that it'll make and leave it at that. I don't know that the Royals are better. What's better? The teams'd have to play each other hundreds of times head to head to figure that one out. And if they did and the Royals ended up winning, say, 154 out of 300, would that settle anything? The Mets absolutely demolished the Cubs in the NLCS. Made mince meat ouf of them. Does anybody really think the Mets are that much better than the Cubs? If at all? Familia is better than fine. I love Familia. I think the bullpen problems people would like to address are those we saw over the course of more than the 5 games. Clippard was pretty much a disaster the last 5 or 6 weeks(?), and come playoff time, Terry (rightly or wrongly) trusted two starters over just about everyone else in the pen in any situation of importance. I don't think the bully needs a full makeover, but it needs to be fortified with a solid dude or two (hard-throwing, IMO) .
  4. It almost seems antiquated to have right-handed relievers throwing less than 95 now. I think for the hitters, it probably feels like a little bit of a reprieve when the starter throwing 97 is lifted and the reliever is throwing 92, no matter how good the reliever's stuff is. I'm not saying throw a pillow case full of cash at 'Big Money Free Agent Reliever' cause that sounds dumb. But we had leads in the 8th inning in 4 of the 5 games in the freaking World Series! If we had an Andrew Miller kind of lock-down™ reliever, I think shit woulda been different, horrible defense aside. Maybe Robles is that guy. Not sure Mejia can be.
  5. If all that's true, then Lenny just confirms to the world that he's a bigger idiot than most already think, AND he also reveals that he's maybe not as good at baseball since the umps were just doing him favors. Poor Lenny's a dumb shit-head. PS - HOW DID DYKSTRA GO BROKE I CAN'T FIGURE THIS OUT
  6. Shit your pants, Royals. The Mets are coming. [youtube:z5gpbpam]PseNrUeSmXk[/youtube:z5gpbpam]

But perhaps if Harvey goes one more inning, we compress our bullpen needs, and the one batter who tied the game never comes to bat. Yeah, agreed. Seemed like an advantage we earned and chose not to use. Maybe after the shaky 6th, Terry just thought Harv was done.

He was coming off five days off, and there was only one more scheduled game before the next day off. With these frequent days off, getting an extra out or two from your closer is much less of an issue. He has time to recover. You know that Familia won't be needed on Thursday. LOL on the thread title, but Familia has been so money, and has done so with no bullshit (3 hits and 2 walks in 11 innings), that I'm fine seeing him as often as Terry wants when the game's on the line. Let's not forget that dominant 2-out save against LA. This guy's everything you could ask for right now.
  9. Pissed this one away so hard. Was scared that first run would be meaningful and of course it was. I'm with Grimmy on Familia. Despite seeing him trot out to the mound all season on those massive horse legs, so close to an actual centaur that A-Rod would be envious, he apparently is still 100% human. I can't believe how calm I've been (and probably will be) every time he's had the ball this postseason. Keep doing you, big horse human, and we'll come out ahead way more than not. Speaking of calm, how calm did Bartolo look at he constantly pitched with opposition runners swarming on the bases behind him? Looks like he could've been in a backyard wiffle ball game. Feels funny to give much praise to the losing pitcher, but he and Niese both pitched pretty well considering. Was very surprised Terry didn't try to get one more inning out of Harv at 80 pitches. Worked out just fine, but surprised me just the same. Harvey K'd 2 and we struck 11 guys total in 14 innings. Against the Dodgers and Cubs, it woulda been like 100 K's (my math might be off). I said in the IGT that outs-in-play were keeping Harvey's pitch count pretty tidy, and that could work in our favor this series to cut the distance to Familia. Still think it can. Love you David, get your shit together. Like, now. Please. Coach Cuddyer looks like an actual coach now, taking hacks against guys he used to play with to keep in 'a little bit of shape' and remember what it used to feel like to be at the top of one's profession. Robles, Gilmartin, squeeze closer and make room for one more. ... and Yoenis. We need you, baby. Hit the Golf N' Stuff this morning to get your head right, drive your weird Batman car all around KC, whatever it takes. BE HAPPY AND CRUSH BASEBALLS (and catch em, too). LGM
  10. Harv through 3, no K's. If the pitch counts stay low, I don't give a shit how we get 'em out. This could work out in our favor.
  11. Poor, unsuspecting KC now has to deal with an angry Cespedes, not just the regular awesome one.
  12. Nymr83 wrote: Just saw on Twitter that Edison Volquez's father died today!! Is the emotion the reason he is all of the sudden throwing so hard? Because a more cynical human might wonder if it was something else given his history...
  13. Klub Kaufman going off with the shitty house music during the KC introductions. Let's kick the shit out of these guys.
  14. I haven't heard too many questions this postseason at all. Mostly, "describe the feeling..."
  15. Terry confirms Kelly Johnson will DH game 1. "We'll see" when asked about Game 2.

  18. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: Clean slides and breaking up DPs are not mutually exclusive terms. This, I get totally. I have trouble seeing Utley's slide as dirty because it's an extremely, extremely rare circumstance when the ump calls interference and enforces the automatic double play. The baserunner almost always gets away with that illegal slide. So if the umps essentially sanction that kind of slide -- which they absolutely do -- and you have a team like the Dodgers with their backs to the wall in a playoff game -- Utley's gonna make that play every single time. The odds are with him that the slide won't be flagged. And he got away with it in the end. Whatever punishment is meted out now will be a total joke in relation to what the Dodgers gained. So there's every incentive for Utley to make that play. Now I know that the slide is illegal. But dirty? Baseball, as it's enforced, essentially encourages that play. I have little anger towards Utley. It's with the umps, especially under Saturday' setting, where the injury and the replay review created a large stoppage in the game, enough for the umps to properly reflect on the play. I also wonder if at least one of the other six umps thought interference should have been called but refrained from discussing the play with the second base ump because of the protocol to defer to the ump who made the call. This, we'll probably never know. As I understand, even if all 6 umps thought it was interference after review, they still couldn't do anything about it because it's a judgement call, which is not reviewable anyway. That is dumb.
  19. Utley was just suspended 2 games for his illegal slide. Which will probably ensure that utley'sconcussion lifespan exceeds 2 more days. Say, if the slide was illegal... How the ever living fuck was he safe!? CORRECTION: How wasn't it a double play, then? Again, what should be a balm, feeling like a backhanded slap in the figurative balls. Centerfield wrote: Now suspend the umpire and the replay crew for not having the balls to make the right call. Fuck them. No, just award the DP, and retroactively give the Mets the win. That's the way it would have played out, had you made the right call, no, blue? I know whatcha mean. For that win, the Dodgers'll gladly pay the price of Utley's two game suspenspion every single time. You'll never get the Dodgers to say this publicly but inside their private world, they're probably treating Utley as if he'd hit five grand slam homers in this NLDS. They're not even doing it privately.

  21. Thank you... very unexpected (freebies!) fell in my lap!
  22. Holy shit, I'm going to the game! Hopefully I won't get stabbed by a bunch of Raider fans. #pray4jake #LGM
  23. Seeing the hard numbers then, I'd have to side with the Mets given their decisive advantages in ERA and Opp OBP. I'm very excited for this series.
  24. I agree w/ CF that the Dodgers are a shitty first round matchup. More so that the Mets backed in and gave up home field. Woulda been so much better with Syndergaard at home in game 2, and Harvey on the road against Brett Anderson in game 3. It's a damn near certainty the Dodgers would go with Kershaw on short rest in game 4, and despite his history, he's better than any alternative they have on full rest. Then Greinke again in game 5. We'd have a much better chance at exploiting our SP depth in a 7-game series.
