  1. Hard to fly under the radar when you're 6'7".
  2. Done apparently, we got our Tyler Clip Art. For a minor leaguer named Casey Meisner. Mets Acquire Tyler Clippard By Jeff Todd [July 27, 2015 at 5:16pm CDT] The Mets have agreed to a deal that will land them reliever Tyler Clippard from the Athletics, Oakland announced (and as Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com first reported on Twitter). Oakland will receive righty Casey Meisner in return, and will also send some cash to New York in the deal. 3. Don't overpay, Mets. The shit is free all over the internet.
  4. Mofo was my first daily internet routine. Probably the same for most of you, at a time when most people didn't have such wastes of time yet. I loved that place a lot, but it did go to shit around the time FK described. Then all of you guys were gone, and reading the boards felt like listening to a thousand WFAN callers all screaming stupid bullshit at the same time. When I got to the CPF, it was this tranquil, little island with blue and orange hammocks, and the Mofo was dead for me. Anyway, thank you, you elitist pricks for sneaking off and starting this place up.

  6. My boy got called up. Not out of the question to think that a last round, flier-pick could toil on the low rungs of the minor league ladder and just flame out, but after a rough debut (.560 OPS in 122 PA) last year for the GCL Mets, he went .256 / .412 / .436 (.848!) in 14 games this year and got bumped up to Kingsport. It's been a bit of a slog there, too, but Dale gets on base, if nothing else - .133 / .333 / .133 in his first 9 games. 7 walks will help that OBP, and his career On Base % now sits at a respectable .354 in 212 total minor league at bats. If he starts smacking the ball a little, who knows? Turns out he's got a little Crash Davis in him, too, which bodes well for all of us.
  7. I feel ya, that was a magical time. '83 I fell for Straw, then Doc the next, and I had the orange-tinted lenses on for good. Certainly helped my 'choice' having those guys, and that team to watch. I think if we didn't have TV as a kid, I might be a passive Dodger fan today, based on growing up near the Albuquerque Dukes, my current geography, and Vin Scully. But if I moved out of CA, I can't say I'd continue following them, but I'd watch the game still. Anyway, I'm glad I picked right back in the day. Good job, lil me.
  8. Beautiful, clutchy DP. Would love a 1-nil Sunday, extra-time victory.
  9. The Mets were on WWOR in New Mexico when I was a boy of 8, so, I chose 'em (over the Cubs on WGN and the Braves on WTBS), but not like this guy did. Did anyone here pick between the Mets and Yankees (or other)?
  10. How come the Mets PR people are pushing for Dozier from the Twins, too?
  11. That sucked. The 'Keith emoji' is only thing that made me smile.
  12. He is hefty, 6'1", 250. Strikes out like 1 dude every 2 innings, but his ERA was 0.31. DUDES CANNOT HIT THIS GUY (I guess). He's a 4-year guy, and 22, so maybe they want him in the bullpen next week.
  13. They're always hanging around, though. Always pretty damn good.

  15. So Giants = pretty damn good. All true. LGM
  16. It does look violent. He pitches like he's pissed at his own elbow.
  17. Mets draft a 6'3" herky-jerky high school lefty named Max Wotell. MLB vid ----->>>> http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/67565098/v141615683

Those streaks likely won't alternate, though. 7-10 or maybe 10-7 is probably where the Mets'll live most of the time. Those 14-3 runs based on 11 in a row are rare for even the really good teams.
  19. Today I read "Happy Thorsday" somewhere on the internet, then remembered I still have to show up to work 3 more times this week. replaced by
  20. More Mets/Cubs trade speculation, but I don't recall I've ever heard a GM of one of the two involved teams hint that a deal is inevitable. What do you make of Hoyer's comments? What do you make of Baez (and what would you surrender?)? http://chicago.suntimes.com/baseball/7/71/598222/young-stars-aligned-cubs-mets-deal-itll-happen-point-hoyer-says Young stars aligned for Cubs-Mets deal? 'It'll happen at some point,' Hoyer says Posted: 05/12/2015, 12:11am | Gordon Wittenmyer The Mets aren't jumping to trade for Cubs' Starlin Castro despite their need for a shortstop and his All-Star pedigree. The Mets need hitting in particular, a hitting shortstop. The Cubs like the Mets young pitching. A lot. Obviously, theres a deal waiting to happen, right? As former Cub manager Dale Sveum might say, kind of a no-brainer. Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer acknowledged as much as the Cubs opened a four-game series against the Mets at Wrigley Field on Monday, saying the Cubs fourth-year front office and the Mets fifth-year regime have discussed trades. We havent made a deal yet, but theres been matches that made sense, and Im sure well talk to them in the future, said Hoyer, who has a relationship with Mets player-development executive Paul DePodesta going back to their time together in the Padres front office. Cubs president Theo Epstein and Mets GM Sandy Alderson also have a good relationship. I guess when you factor in the hitting and the pitching, I guess people think its unusual, Hoyer said of the fact the teams havent hooked up on a trade. But itll happen at some point. The Cubs talked about minor-league right-hander Noah Syndergaard last year while he struggled at Class AAA Las Vegas, but with Syndergaard looking like a stud again and joining the Mets rotation for his big-league debut Tuesday, dont count on that. And dont expect a deal that sends Starlin Castro to Queens anytime soon, despite the flurry of rumors about such a deal throughout last summer and into the offseason. Those rumors reached boiling heat in August when the Cubs went to New York six weeks after acquiring touted shortstop prospect Addison Russell from the Athletics in the Jeff Samardzija deal. But the Mets arent interested, certainly not at anything close to the return the Cubs would need. More likely, it could be something involving Javy Baez, who has played some shortstop since rejoining Class AAA Iowa on April 30. He has played well enough that one evaluator said he looked better at that position than Castro and Russell. One problem with any Baez deal is that the Cubs would be selling low at this point, at least until the big-swinging slugger shows some control for an extended period in his swing and the strike zone. That still might not be enough to swing one of the big arms from the Mets stable. They havent seemed willing to part with any of their top young arms, a stance that looked especially wise when the team learned this spring that Zack Wheeler would miss the season after Tommy John surgery. The Mets, who rank near the bottom of the league in offensive production, might yet seek more hitting, especially if their strong start holds up into the July trading period. Until then, talk figures to be pretty cheap.

  22. I'm rooting for Edgy's cause 'trades are FUNNNNN!!!' but Ceet's is probably more boringly accurate.

  24. Edgy MD wrote: Curious to see that the team looks average-to-good even when measuring by DPR (runs saved by double plays, which is a number I thought might be damning). Somewhere there's a "Marginal double plays," number where somebody is measuring double plays against actual opportunities when a team gets an actual grounder with a force on the basepaths. Maybe if we can find that, we'll see the blip of Wilmer's (and Murphy's) impact, but even that probably takes some time to sort out in the wash. That sounds like the Runs That Scored on Effed Up DP's, which is a number I wanna see. Maybe it hasn't been all that bad volume-wise, but just supremely bad timing and importance-wise. And yup on the offense. The .643 and .642 OPS's of Campbell and Plawecki haven't made stuff any better.
