  3. Not for nothing, but first reaction to this was to think of A-Rod, and then to think of David Wright. Seems Prince is not medically eligible to play, so his release/coordinated-retirement wouldn't be imminent like A-Rod's, and if he's done, the Rangers can get the insurance help and be done. If he got "healthy" enough to be cleared to play, though, while being still terrible (and signed through 2020), the Rangers might do like the NYY w/ A-Rod and re-negotiate and promote Prince to team buffet taster or something. And similarly, it doesn't seem far-fetched at all for the Mets to go the same route with David if they found themselves is the same mud. "Healthy" player, not performing, signed for, like, a while.
  4. I think he's awesome again after that Ken Rosenthal, #puigyourfriend shit.
  5. As reported over here, the Dodgers just picked up Josh Reddick from the A's and sent Yasiel Puig to the minors. They're tired of Puig for a bunch of reasons, and that's where we come in. He's (allegedly) only 25, is right-handed, and "plays" centerfield (albeit, kinda shittily). He's signed 2 more years after this at $8.2M and $9.2M per, and I bet he would slide through waivers, could fake CF for a couple months, and be a corner OF in '17 and '18. If the Dodgers paid some of his $$ and asked for an unheralded minor leaguer or 2 like him in return, would you buy Jay Bruce a 1B glove and take a chance? Would Puig + Cespedes be Cubano magic, or go all Cuban Missile Crisis nuclear in 10 seconds?? Would we be a better or worse team? Would the OF log jam just be jammier?? Would we still have a place for Lagares/Nimmo next year? Is this idea effing stupid?
  6. Looks like Asdrubal might be done for the year. I'd like to see what Cecchini can do. Seems his offensive upside is greater than Reynolds, and keep Wilmer floating around the infield.

  8. I got the impression from reviews and what-not that it was more about Ronnie going shit in Game 7 of the WS than 86 rumor stuff. Was curious if anybody here has read it yet?
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: As far as I know it's the only one. I haven't gotten around to this book yet. Thx, dude.
  10. Is this the only Darling book thread? or is there another?
  11. Gourriel worked out for the Mets today, pic courtesty of his Insta. I haven't heard any leaks from "in-the-know sources", but I put my own personal Paddy Power odds on the Mets signing him at 15:1. Who wants some of that fake action?
  12. Cool shit is happening: -Mets flash the leather to get out of bases-loaded, nobody out jam -Nimmo gets his first ML hit -Granderson gets an actual hit with actual runners in scoring position
  13. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: But it's not about Jose or the Mets. What I'd like to see is the organization be a very outspoken and generous advocate for domestic violence victims. Not just a leader in baseball, but all of sports, and even beyond. Employing Jose wouldn't look hypocritical if they really went out and backed organizations that provide assistance to victims, and used their own employment practices as a platform to highlight public education and counseling/rehabilitation for abusers. On one hand, I think this all would be good. On the other, I'm not sure if this is a proper role for a baseball team. Maybe it should focus on playing baseball. It's not always a good thing when groups go outside their lanes. Here are so many important causes. I'm torn. The Mets already do outreach for all kinds of shit. I think they could add to that and still manage to focus on baseball playing.
  14. I'm not disappointed in the Mets for signing Jose. Truth is, a guy like Jose will probably have a slightly better chance of being a decent human being going forward if he has the support and the resources of an organization that is invested him, assuming neither the Mets nor Jose mail in those platitudes about remorse and counseling, etc. But it's not about Jose or the Mets. Sandy sez (bold is mine): "I think we fully understand that there will be differences of opinion about this, that some people will feel strongly and differently," Alderson said. "I think we accept that. We respect that. And all I can say is that both Jose and the organization will be held to a standard going forward that recognizes the seriousness of domestic abuse and a commitment to stand against it." I don't know what that means exactly, but I hope they go big. Teams do sexual harassment training. They should add an awareness training on domestic violence and anger. Teams give away tacos and Subway sandwiches for home runs. Maybe give sacks of money to organizations that provide domestic violence outreach and support, as well. Have an awareness weekend where the team uses purple-colored bats, or wears a ribbon or a patch, whatever. Just make noise about it and give money to people fighting it. Don't just say words at the press conference.
  15. If it goes down, Jose has worn 7 at every stop in MLB. 77 like a left tackle? My bet is 6. He's a June baby. Shitty rooting for a domestic abuser (yeah, we don't know for sure, but I feel like we know for sure). His wife is still with him, I guess, and I hope that's out of his contrition and not her fear. Don't be an asshole, Jose.
  16. Yeah, no one should be subjected to that garbage - online or #IRL. Apparently 25 states represented the 1,400 San Diego tickets, so maybe this outing was more of a tourist thing for softy lamestreamers like me, don't know. Speaking of Mets memorabilia, I have a bunch of yearbooks I am gunna get rid of. If anyone wants one or two or three of them, I'll put them in the mail and you can reimburse my postage, if you're so inclined. I'll list what I've got later (snap some pics, too, if anyone is interested). Didn't have the heart to take them to a Goodwill/second hand place.
  17. Lefty Specialist wrote: I've been timid about doing the 7 Line away game thing for fear of being surrounded by douchey Yankee-like fans (or sitting too close to Jim Breuer). Good to know that was not the case. Like I said, there were a few, but they were easy enough to stay clear from. The seating at this event was completely loose, for the record. Everyone sat/stood with who they wanted to hang with and that surprisingly worked. I thought it would be a shit-show, but it wasn't. The guys we met and hung out with said seating worked the same at Citi for 7 line events. These guys, btw, flew out from Queens, and were normal people with jobs, who just like the Mets. Blondie worked in marketing for a bank, the bearded guy was nice and normal, too, forget what his job was. The kid in the white t-shirt was a Marine stationed at Pendleton (also from New Mexico) who just wandered over cause it looked fun. Met a really cool married couple from Chicago who made the game into a little So Cal trip, following the Mets around like they're the Grateful Dead. We facebooked and may meet up in Chicago in the summer. I was leery, too, but happily have no bad stories to tell.
  18. Didn't hear one thing about it! I didn't even know that was a thing. What's the quick backstory?
  19. Was at the 'Bartolo Game' with the Opera Singer, sitting with the 7 Line people in right field, all 1,400 of 'em. Phenomenal time. I wasn't sure if it would be a bunch of WFAN radio-caller bros (there were a few, but didn't encounter a single asshole in the bunch). Everyone we did meet was super cool and seeing that many Met fans outside Shea/Citi was bonkers for me, being a lifetime road-gamer. They sang 'Meet the Mets' and even had some soccer-style chants for individual players, not all of 'em worked, but credit for the effort. When Bart hit the homer, you woulda tought we won the World Series or something. Complete euphoria. For me, it was about the same level of crazy for the visiting fan as when Fonzie hit the HR off Bobby Chouinard in Arizona in '99, but that was a grand slam in the playoffs. This was just Bartolo Magic. Said hi to ring-leader, Darren. Seemed a real nice guy. Saw Jim Breuer in the pisser. Took a picture with Ron Burgandy. The whole 7 Line experience, I surprisingly recommend it. San Diego has great beers. I may have had one or two. Wish u were here #awhalesvagina
  20. i'm late to the party, but this is great stuff, BG. Much easier mechanism to do the thing.
  21. Literal LOL @ Effman. Seriously hope Yoenis rolls up in a Delorean tomorrow.
  22. What's funny is I couldn't tell you what movie... Smart money says Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The Expendables.
  23. Which one of you weirdos made him on the street?? This is pretty cool, FWIW. Thank You New York As some of you may have gathered my time with the New York Mets is at its end. I didn't play for 10 years nor was I an All-star or contributor to last seasons amazing run BUT I'll never forget my time playing for the greatest fans/city in baseball. From walking the streets of Manhattan, to riding the 7 Line daily to Citi Field I was given moments I'll remember for my lifetime. See I get why a lot of people picture New York as giant skyscrapers, crazy taxis and busy, busy people BUT what gets the bad wrap are exactly what make this city the greatest: it's the PEOPLE of New York. They are what make it "New York". I remember a moment during the All-star break in 2014. I had stayed in NYC for the break to just enjoy the city. I decided one night to go see a movie at the AMC Empire 25 theatre off 42nd. What's funny is I couldn't tell you what movie or if I had even enjoyed it but what happened next is why I get a bit teary eyed still to this day. You see I was walking out around 11 pm or so and had come to W42nd & 8th Ave and was waiting for the light to change so I could head home. Upon crossing the street there was an older gentleman in a ball cap walking the opposite direction as we passed each other I heard him say "Nice first half Vic! We are happy you are with us. Best of luck in the second half." I didn't love this because I was recognized rather because it was at its most intimate and simplistic level a perfect example of how the people of New York are. You were kind in welcoming me to YOUR family and I'll always have blue and orange running in my blood. New York captured my heart and nothing can ever take that away. You gave me a gift, experiences and moments I'll cherish forever. I'm counting the days till my next visit in whatever capacity it may be. I love you New York! Vic Black
