But if he's available now he'd be available in July, probably. I'm coming around to thinking it might benefit us even more to add a top-line starting pitcher to the rotation, light a little fire under Harvey and Matz's asses, and make the idea of the Mets coming to town worrisome for every offense in the league. Kinda like how the Braves did when they got Maddux. I kinda like this idea, too, for the fire-lighting, but also the frailty of our young dudes. I feel like Chris Sale would be great, but he strikes me as an IRL asshole and I keep waiting for his left arm to break anyway. Sorry to hi-jack Russell Martin, but I wanna talk about Chris Archer.

In 1999, Ivan Rodriguez won a very close MVP race in the American League. However, considering that several players who received votes that year were steroid users and should be disqualified (Rodriguez, Manny, Palmeiro, Giambi, A-Rod), two had already won an MVP award (Griffey, Juan Gonzalez), two were pitchers (Pedro, Mariano), two played in Canada (Green, Delgado), three were middle infielders (Alomar, Nomar, Vizquel), one was a MFY (Bernie Williams), and one sucks (Jeter)... the case could be made that the player who finished 17th in the voting should have actually won. That was Matt Stairs. All of it great, but this one got me the most.
  3. If we don't trade for McCutchen, Guns N Roses might to have him fill in for Buckethead. I'm gonna go Google for some fGWAR stats now.
  4. I think the 2nd year is an option, but still. He's not quite that guy anymore, which is why he's even available. I'd try to get him for my bulletproof offer of Nimmo (or Lagares)/Gsellman/TEBOW, but would walk away if it came to Matz.
  5. He better be announcing that he's playing Santa this year. I want him book-ended by Jeff and Sandy, he can slip on the Santa outfit, smile for pics, THE END.

Sounds like the Nats are already moving on some McCutch deal but we can beat those bastards with the inclusion of TEBOW. Matz/Lagares That would do it, I bet. I still believe in Matz, though. Do we all want him gone now??

  8. I'd rather leave Gomez alone, trade Bruce, and then take a stab at a 1-year McCutcheon rental. I'm gunna go make some WATPs for us to chew upon.
  9. Yeah, but I like the idea. If we had a Michael Fulmer still, that might help kick it over the top. I would add Gsellman, Nimmo, and TEBOW and see if he still slams the phone down.
  10. I love a lot of things about European football, but it's a long ways from perfect. The top leagues are dominated by only a handful of rich clubs (true in England, France, and especially Germany and Spain) and if you are not one of those top clubs (last year's Leicester City miracle in the PL aside), the goal then is to maybe, maybe get a spot in a second-tier European cup the next season, or just keep from being relegated. Sadly, most teams have zero chance to win when the season starts, and fighting to finish 11th instead of 13th is the reality season in and season out, which would suck. There are no salary caps or anything like that. Only Financial Fair Play rules, which try to keep teams from spending more than they earn.
  11. Bagwell Vlad Hoffman Kent McGriff Raines Mussina Eff those other guys.
  12. Long-term deals are risky, but Gary's Words Above Replacement was league-leading, and he proves with his deep knowledge of random Mets that his Range Factor is also elite.
  13. Poll is only allowing me to select one choice, and if I can ONLY pick Matt Stairs, then Orlando Cabrera is gonna be rightfully pissed.

  15. If she was gonna wear the red hat from the first pic, I'd humbly request she wear that whole incredible outfit. I think it's a tougher hat to pair, so i'm going fedora.
  16. Centerfield wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Lucas Duda, Dominic Smith, Marcos Molina, and Eric Goeddel for Joey Votto. The Mets get the #3 hitter to allow Céspedes to quit pretending and be the cleanup guy he was born to be, and David Wright, God willing, to quit pretending and be that #2 guy. The Reds get their first basemen of the present AND the future, a potential top-of-the-rotation starter, and a reliever that deserves a higher profile than the Mets are giving him. Power, average, and a devastatingly good eye, Votto would be offer maniacal production in the middle of the Mets lineup. signed for seven more seasons plus an option/expensive buyout in 2024, Votto is expensive enough at the end of that contract that the Reds somehow overlook Duda and Molina being damaged goodniks. That contract is ridiculous. I think you wouldn't have to give up all that much for Votto. Yeah it is, but that's a goddamn Wild-Ass Trade Proposal right there! Entering his age 33 season and owed $172M for the next 7 years (!), plus that option Edgy mentioned. I would think that $24.5M per year would scare us away, rightfully so. Reds be crazy.
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I think one time I may have dangled a AA Noah Syndergaard for that Purickson Jofar guy and regretted that WATP. I don;t think we'd want him unless were also trading Cabrera or something Yeah, deep in my pitch, I advocated moving Wilmer for a live, bullpen arm. How about San Diego's hulky and boringly-named lefty Brad Hand? Weirdly broke out to the tune of 11.2 K/9 last year, while the previous 5 years he averaged 5.9. Mets get a high-K bullpen arm, and Wilmer gets to live closer to the 'Friends' set on the WB lot in Burbank.
  18. I say let's trade Robert Gsellman and some crapper - say, Tim Tebow - to the Rangers for Jurickson Profar. Not a firework-y blockbuster, but the Rangers get a controllable 23-year old SP who can slot in as their #5 (MLBTR sez they could maybe be persuaded to trade him for an arm). Plus, there's that southern Christian, jersey-selling gentleman TIM TEBOW. Mets get a 23-year old switch hitter who played every infield position (and some left field) last season, but is blocked by Roughned Odor and Elvis Andrus in Texas. He might not have a spot with us either right away, but that could change quickly with Wright, Reyes, Cabrera, and Walker all the wrong side of 30, signed for only this season (except Cappy), and getting hurt and shit. I think with his versatility, he could maybe get 350 ABs or more, and be in line to start somewhere in 2018 if he does well. I think this offer may not be enough, but TIM TEBOW. Then we could be free to trade Wilmer for a hot, young reliever with "upside". Am I ruining the Mets? Or am I Making Them Great Again?? Give me your thoughts if you have any, and then give me your WATP NOW!!!!

I've never seen any although at his point there can't possibly be a stat that someone somewhere isn't recording and tracking. Like you imply though, I'm not sure what kind of conclusions you could reach from just the raw number or even by percentage. Yeap. I'm sure Teufel got a couple guys hung out to dry, like all 3rd base coaches. Was wondering if there was anything specific Tuff did, or more they just like the new dude + the catching coach, 2-for-1. I guess the latter.
  20. I know there are lots of factors involved, but are there any stats on runners getting thrown out at home?
  21. OK, Tebow, fine. Credit where due. That batting line is garbage, but going from high school to the Arizona Fall League (via 11-year hiatus) is no easy leap.
  22. It could also be similar to why Hellickson re-signed w/ the Phils. Teams told his agents they were interested, but didn't want to lose the draft pick. I think it's better for both parties that he signed. Mets on the hook for one kinda expensive year, but don't get hamstrung for multiple, and a (hopefully) healthy Walker gets to play again for a contract.
  23. This guy is the Japanese Steve Nebraska! And apparently handsome like Brendan Frasier, too!! I would agree an AL team would be more likely if he can truly mash. You'd want him in the lineup on days when he's not pitching, but not winging the ball all over the damn yard when the other pitchers are all soft tossing on their off-days. What a challenge it would be to keep him on a regular pitching regimen, huh. This guy would be super fun to have around.
  24. That Willie Mays mashup is great.
  25. Man, where to start. I was at the San Diego game where he smashed the homer off James Shields, and took an hour and a half to round the bases. What a wonderful baseball moment I'll never forget. Beloved mascot stuff aside, he was amazingly durable and reliable. I remember thinking I would've much rather had Scott Kazmir (who signed around the same time and about the same money, IIRC). Didn't think we would have needed Bart as much as we did, and was surprised at how much he rewarded us in return. See ya, Big Sexy.
