  1. =kcmets post_id=108692 time=1664206935 user_id=53] I've been atoning for my sins all morning and it's New Years! I always get the holidays backwards... #lgm #ygm #ymdyf
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I hope Marte comes back soon. My first exact thought when scanning today's lineup card. And yesterday's and so on It's not a bad lineup considering we're giving Canha a rest. Still the deepest Metly bench I think we've seen in a couple of decades.
  3. Taijuan Walker meets Adrian Houser, who I googled and verified is a pitcher, in a day game. 2:10 start.
  4. Carlos Carrasco vs Aaron Ashby. Wasn't there a catcher named Alan Ashby once? Are they related? I don't know. I'm in a meeting and people are starting to notice that I'm on my phone. LGM, ETC.
  5. Max is back, or so the interwebs tell me. He's pitching against someone and as long as that someone isn't Jacob DeGrom, I again like our chances.
  6. Chad ochoseis wrote: I like our chances. I feel less confident because the dreaded "S" word is in the thread title. Later Missed the game because I was driving to the Philly suburbs for work. I did consider keeping "sweep" out of the title, but then it occurred to me that the team's performance might not actually be related to what some guy in Cleveland posts to a fan site. This IGT was some fun reading. Glad the good guys won.
  7. Jacob DeGrom is pitching against somebody who isn't Jacob DeGrom. Doesn't matter who. I like our chances.
  8. Bryce Wilson vs Chris Bassitt in what I believe is my first ever three game IGT streak. Keep it going, guys.
  9. Also in favor of the Cookie monster for the same reasons as Seo. Bassitt seems to have more of the right stuff for a starter...innings eater with a variety of pitches. But, given how injury prone both Jake and Max have been, I'm not sure I'd switch to a four-man rotation in the postseason.
  10. My memory is that Tom Glavine was the only healthy starting pitcher left in 2006. Probably not literally true, but he definitely started a game against the Dodgers that year.
  11. Somewhere in heaven, John Stearns is insisting it's only a scratch and that he's ready to catch Zachry tonight. Mitch Keller vs Taijuan Walker, back to a 7:10 start.
  12. This game has been pleasantly boring.
  13. Nothing like a Cookie to cure a case of depression. Carlos Carrasco, wearing Cleon Jones's number, goes against a bunch of guys wearing Roberto Clemente's number tonight at 7:20.
  14. Also invented the Nutty Buddy. And was, at least as far as I was concerned, a Strat-O-Matic superstar. The man's card destroyed lefties. Unfortunately, it wasn't the card that pitched to Chambliss. https://youtu.be/oCnfHghxz8Qhttps://youtu.be/oCnfHghxz8Q
  15. I think there have been some analytics that say that the 2 hole is the best place to put your power hitter. There's some good rationale for that, particularly now that a position player is in the 9 spot. Plenty of likelihood that the 2 batter will come up with runners on base, and over the course of the season, the #2 spot will get more PAs than the #4 spot. Not that that was Buck's rationale.
  16. Lefty Specialist wrote: Braves win, and it's now a flat-footed tie for first. This has a September 1969 Cubs feeling to it. Yeah! From here, the Mets are going to run away with the division, sweep Atlanta in the playoffs for the pennant, and win the World Series in five, same as 1969.
  17. Next question for quantification is that of how relevant the difference is. I've always been dubious of pinch runners because I suspect that in the vast majority of situations, the added expected value of having a Gore or even a Naquin on base instead of a Vogelbach isn't as great as the expected value lost from giving up Vogelbach's bat for the remainder of the game. But I've never seen any numbers, and I'm too lazy to look them up. Speaking of things I'm too lazy to look up, birdsong? I know "vogel" is "bird", but isn't "lied" the German word for "song"?
  18. He's not *that* slow, based on my eyeball test.
  19. Andy Warhol museum Any number of cafes and restaurants in Squirrel Hill. None of the restaurants are Primanti's. Mt. Washington funicular Arsenal Cider near the ballpark. I've never been to that particular one, but they opened one near me in Cleveland a couple of years ago, and they're excellent. Station Square is pretty nice. Chatham University has one of the most beautiful urban campuses around. Pretty good street life and art scene, particularly around Squirrel Hill. Pittsburgh doesn't suck.
  20. ...and it sounds like Buck agrees.
  21. Bring him in for the 9th if it's still a save situation? I vote no.
