  1. Vidro was hampered by leg problems last year limiting him to 80 some-odd games. There was speculation that the injury may never heal correctly and that we may never see the old Vidro again.
  2. I love it Spaceman. I might be in the minority here, but I hate little crevices and short walls and all the other stuff designed to give "character".
  3. What a terrible deal that would be. Who would play center? Manny? Where could we find a centerfielder? Do you think the Pads would give us Cameron for Xavier Nady?
  4. I've never hated a Mets shortstop, but I can't imagine anyone getting more abuse than Rey. His contract didn't help matters.
  5. If you're a fan of Star Wars, you should check out this page with deleted scenes: http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/cut_scenes/ep4/ I think most of us will agree that these scenes were rightfully cut, but it gives you an idea of what Lucas had in mind for the characters. The real interesting part comes in the Yavin scene (entitled Biggs Reprise) where Red Leader tells Luke: "I met your father once when I was just a boy. He was a great pilot. You'll do all right. If you've got half of your father's skill, you'll do better than all right." Lucas tries to claim that he had the storylines to the prequels written before the first movie was ever made. I think this scene pretty much blows that theory to shreds. In fact, this line makes it seem like he wasn't even sold on making Darth Vader his father.
  6. Wow! Frank Thomas! Awesome! (I hope to be able to add something a little more eloquent when I calm down)
  7. This is awful. Meaning Bengie Molina will likely sign for even less. Which means Piazza should look like an absolute steal when all is said an done. Omar must feel like an asshat today.
  8. Damn. I thought we were going to have a fight.
  9. I'll withhold judgment until I hear what the terms are. But regardless, how about the stones on Franco's agent to ask for a 2 year deal for his 47 year old client...
  10. I hat baseball.
  11. Ralph needs to quit his new position and come back and post more. On Edit: You don't even need to sign Washburn...you could slot in Zambrano as the #5 starter.
  12. What about some of the new guys...were they with us before? Zvon? Olerud Owned?
  13. You know, sometime around the trade deadline next year, the Mets should look to get a veteran presence off the bench. Someone who bats right-handed and has a little bit of pop...
  14. I like the idea of signing older veterans for the bench. If they want to bring in Bernie or Sosa or anyone else and give them a shot in spring training, I'm all for it. Every once in a while, you might find that the older guys have just a little something left in the tank that can be useful in a limited role. And if not, no skin off our back.
  15. I wonder if the Asshead is thinking about heading back to the Bronx.
  16. Great article.
  17. Willets, A Rheingold is your's if you can find a way to get HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPOS into context.
  18. "Matsui is a horny guy. All of us are horny, more or less. But Matsui doesn't attempt to hide the fact." Yet another win for the Japanese Everyman. Funniest line ever. It was at Seiryo High School in Kanazawa, one of Japan's famous baseball factories, that Matsui was first nicknamed "Godzilla"a moniker which, at the time, was as much for the severe case of adolescent acne that plagued him as it was for his tape-measure blasts. That, I did not know.
  19. Rotty, I look forward to your analysis on Zito.
  20. Three cheers for our Mods!
  21. What's the story about the guy with the lamp sitting on the curb?
  22. I hear 4 years later he played a crucial role in the invasion of England.
  23. His HR off Randy Johnson in the '99 NLDS...his game-winner in Game 4 of the '99 NLCS...the Schililng game...keeping the game alive in front of Piazza's HR off Hoffman (I remember thinking beforehand, 'Well, if Johnny gets on, Piazza could win it with a HR')...Johnny O was my favorite player since Doc and Darryl. Have fun in your retirement big guy. __________________________________________________ Creator of "the Quiet Riot"....come on! The name could still catch on!
  24. Rumors from another board are that those pitchers may be part of a package for Zito. Let's hope.
  25. As business hours come to a close on Day 2, I have to say, the Mets whirlwind of activity isn't quite as whirlwindy as they said it was going to be...
