  1. I hated the deal then and I still hate it now. I never understood the club saying they wanted to go in a different direction because Cliff was too brittle, then signing 40 year old Alou with his history of injuries. The Mets had two holes to fill in their lineup, 2nd base and LF, and they took a gamble on two old players and neither of them have been healthy this season. Omar's options may have been somewhat limited but I hated Alou and Valentin in the opening day lineup.
  2. No really. How do you hit a home run at the Little League level?

  5. Unbelievable. He makes Cliff Floyd look like an ironman.

I forgot which of the hundred HR's the MFY's hit this weekend it was, but one of them was a line drive that reached the seats in no time. It didn't prevent Sterling from proclaiming that "IT IS HIGH!...."
  7. I have yet to pull a ball.

  9. People born in 1975 are NOT OLD. In fact, they probably would have at least 7 or 8 good years left if they were picked up today.
  10. I thought it was ok as a kid. Unwatchable when it was released on video several years later. When I was in grade school, the teachers kept telling us that if we screwed up our buddy system, one of us would get left behind like E.T.
  11. And a good dose of complaining, albeit at the ump.
  12. Ambres 2 Reyes 2 Beltran 1 Milledge 1 Wright 1 Feliciano 1 Wagner 1 Heilman 1
  13. -It says here in the program that Wilpon will be announcing the new second baseman from the owner's box in the 7th inning stretch. -Who could it be? -I dunno. Says here he went to Syracuse...
  14. The worst part about it was them cutting back and finding Brad Penny standing on second after having doubled. This, of course, convinced me that something bad was going to happen every time they cut away.
  15. I'll be rooting hard for Barry over his next three games. I hope he hits three HR's a game.
  16. Base coaches in Little League have worn them for years.
  17. To expand on my earlier statement, I'm not sure that Kemp is any less of a hitter than Kent at that point, and like you said, it increases the possibility of Garciaparra batting. A three-ball count to Kemp means he can sit fastball because the last thing you want to do is walk Pierre over to third with one out. A basehit would mean the tying run scoring, AND the winning run moving into scoring position...maybe even third base...with one out. I felt there was very little to be gained, and what benefits there were, did not come close to outweighing these factors.
  18. I thought it was an awful move.

  20. The example that immediately jumps into my mind is Jack Buck's call of Puckett's home run. No one seems to realize today that a real signature call is one that is only said once.
  21. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I was at that game, so I didn't hear Scully's call until the next day Yeah right. You and 250,000 other people. I'm just kidding Yancy. Did you see avi?
  22. I loved Scully's "What a ballgame here at Shea!" It's funny, it was already an incredible game even before the Buckner play.
  23. iramets wrote: Helen Mirren, si. Excalibre, not so much. Have you seen her in "O Lucky Man!"? I have not. Should I? I will if you recommend it.

Is it weird that even though she's in her sixties I'm still attracted to Helen Mirren? You're remembering lines from ancient adventure movies and you think the weird thing about you is being turned on by beauties past their prime? Admit it. You love both Excaliber and Helen Mirren.
