  1. For the last two weeks, the Mets seemed really determined to come back and win from 5 run deficits. Maybe today is the day it happens.
  2. This is not going well. Philly winning too.
  3. The orange dot modifies the original. The black provides an alternative. If you hate the black hats, you don't have to buy or wear them. If I hate the orange dot, I can't simply buy an all-blue hat (without the dot) because the Mets don't wear one anymore. In my view, they can make as many alternative uniforms as they want...just leave the original alone. For that reason, although I've never liked the pinstripes, I can understand keeping them around.
  4. I've never had a problem with the black uniforms or hats, though it may well be time to put them aside. I doubt they'll be making the trip to Citifield. I like Lazy Mary. Like KC, I can't hear the end of TMOTTBG without automatically going into the opening of the song. The real abomination is the orange dot on the all blue caps. I've been waiting for years for them to eliminate it and go back to what it was. Last month I realized you can buy the all blue hats without the dot if you buy the faded ones. My son got his first all-blue hat. He will never wear the orange dot as long as I can help it. It looks ridiculous. Like a fucking beanie. I know I'm in the minority here, but I dislike the pinstripes. If I were king, they'd wear the snow-whites at home, grays on the road, with an occasional all-blue alternative road jersey. Blue hats all the time, no orange dot. Everybody clap yo' hands must die. Sweet Caroline belongs in Boston.
  5. It feels weird to root for the Braves. I know it doesn't make sense logically, but I think I'd like to see Philly take one of these games. I would hate to see Atlanta get started on a run. Can you believe they're still trying to do the tomahawk chop in Atlanta? That would be like the Mets trying to bring back "Who Let the Dogs Out".
  6. My nuts feel crunched. It hurts.
  7. Holy Fuck I hate this team.

  9. Hey look at that. Schoenweis can suck on the road too.
  10. Broadcast guys mentioned that Pedro had seen a flaw in Mota's delivery. Didn't make it until Mota pitched last night, but his line sure looks good this morning.
  11. Hearing Ralph and McCarver together moved me a lot more than I thought it would. Great to hear and see them go back and forth again. I almost forgot Tim could do play-by-play. I must have heard the "We can finish last without you" story a million times. It never gets old. If you're a Mets fan and didn't feel something today, I'd check for a pulse.
  12. I can't download from that site for some reason. Could be my firewall. I need a pinch-hitter.
  13. I hate this team.

  15. 6-3 is your final. FK, you can step down from the ledge.
  16. I'm one of the biggest culprits here so I guess I should explain my frustration. 1. Off-Season: If the team falls just short of the World Series, you'd like to start the next year with a feeling of "Wow, we just got ____, if we had him last year we would have gone all the way. I can't wait for the season to begin!" That obviously didn't happen. I realize most of the big-ticket guys went for money that seemed out of control, but there were little moves I felt were bungled. Leftfield and second base, specifically. When Alou and Valentin were injured, there isn't anyone here who was surprised by that. 2. It doesn't feel like a first-place team: Part of that could be because it's been so long since they played like one. Two consecutive losing months followed by an August where they are 7-5. Not exactly awe-inspiring. 3. Not Clutch: Despite being a first place team that scores a good amount of runs (6th in the NL), they are below ML averages with RISP (.266), RISP w/ 2 outs (.230), and close and late (.240). These are the "make you want to rip your hair out" stats. I couldn't find it listed anywhere, but it seems like they're poor at delivering the runner from third base with less than 2 outs. Plus they went through that period of time where they didn't score any runs at all. There's nothing worse than seeing your starter give up 4 runs and knowing the game was out of reach. 4. Can't beat the fucking Braves. 5. Fun Factor: I don't know. Just doesn't seem to be there this year. Hurry back Pedro. 6. I really dislike the manager: Maybe not as much as Sal, but I don't agree with Willie Randolph on much. He makes questionable moves. I think he uses that "old school" logic to justify some bad decisions. I hate hate hate that he doesn't go out and argue with umps because I think it does make a difference on future calls. Of course, it is a first place team, and hate is an ugly emotion. Plus a buddy of mine who is a St. Louis fan said last year's team was one of the most frustrating teams he's ever rooted for so who knows. I do like that this team seems to be pretty dangerous in the 9th inning, and our closer has been stellar. We'll wait and see. If they win the WS this year I'll like them a whole lot more.
  17. Nice to get the win but they still played like crap. It's infuriating to leave runners on base, but another thing altogether to leave them on third with less than 2 outs. We were lucky to get the tying run on Beltran's DP ball, but we got hosed by the call. Not only didn't he catch it, he was off the base if he did. Plus we dodged a bullet there with Wright's shoulder (If that were a drop, Wilson would have been called for obstruction right?) I can't believe Willie doesn't come out to argue some of these calls. Umps are human...they know that if they call the close ones against the Mets, they'll hear nothing from their manager.
  18. I know he's the enemy and all, but I've always liked Bobby Cox. I like the way he sticks up for his team. Plus he's just a funny cantankerous guy. I remember one time the Mets and Braves were playing an extra inning game at Shea. Cox was fiddling around with the lineup card upset that he had to make changes because his pitcher couldn't throw strikes. The crowd roared, Cox saw the Mets score the winning run, and then immediately threw the lineup card and pencil away in disgust. He turned and headed into the clubhouse grumbling the whole time. Maybe you had to be there.
  19. Yancy Street Gang wrote: The Mets have to win three games against the Pirates. That third win would make up for losing two of three to the Marlins. Looking at the nine-game stretch against the Marlins, Pirates and Nats, it's the portion of the schedule where you'd like to see them roll off a 7-2 run. That's tough now, as we'd need 6 straight wins. Even 6-3 will be tough, requiring 5 of the next six. Two out of three against Pittsburgh and Washington results in a 5-4 record over that stretch. That's not good enough.
  20. I hate this team. I can't remember ever being more disgruntled with a first-place Mets team. Suck suck suck. I have no confidence that they will win today.
  21. Well, technically speaking, looking at our all-time W/L record, we don't do well against anyone.
  22. The rain has to stop. I can't have that bitter taste from yesterday sit for another day.
  23. We had St. Louis's number in the regular season last year.
  24. I fucking hate this shit. Afternoon loss followed by a night game. More time to stew.
