  1. Nathaniel Lowe traded to Washington. Nats now out on Alonso.
  2. Goldschmidt signed with the Yanks. Naylor traded to Arizona, and then Cleveland turns around and signs Carlos Santana. Basically all 1B options are just about gone now. (Other than Pete)
  3. And somewhat related to this, I also wonder if his performance would not be improved with the occasional off day. Or at least DH for the day.
  4. Pete's off year doesn't seem quite as bad if you look at OPS+ 2019: 147 2020: 122 2021: 133 2022: 146 2023: 123 2024: 123 Basically you can count on him to be in the 120s during his down years, 140s during his good years. By comparison, Bregman: 2022: 134 2023: 122 2024: 118 A case can be made that Bregman is declining worse than Pete. And for good measure, Christian Walker 2022: 126 2023: 120 2024: 116 Walker and Bregman give you better defense, but neither give you as much offense as Pete.
  5. I think Pete's situation is kinda disconnected from Soto and more about his projections. I think Stearns has a number in mind and won't go beyond that. I don't know what his number is, but for me I'd be good with 5 years. $130-135M. If he gets an offer beyond that he's likely gone. I just hope he makes up his mind quickly before the Mets go with another option.
  6. I don’t see any reason this couldn’t happen.
  7. MLB Trade Rumors' prediction was fairly close to this. 5 years, $125M. And in their podcast, they felt that this was on the high side. If this is the case, I think the price works for the Mets, but maybe not the timing. As BG said earlier, Pete likely holds out, and by that time, the Mets have moved on.
  8. Joel Sherman says that Pete turned down a 7 year, $158M extension from the Mets in 2023. If he had accepted that deal, deducting the $20,500,000 he made this year, it would leave 6 years, $138M ($23M/year). A 6 year deal would take Alonso into his year 35 season. Pete was allegedly looking for an 8-10 year deal, which I guess would now be a 7-9 year deal. Spotrac estimates his value at 6 years, $174 M ($29M/Year). I'm guessing this would be the upper limit of how high Stearns is willing to go, if it's even that high. I dunno. I don't feel great about this one. I think he's likely gone.
  9. If Mark can play 3B he should stay there. Moving him to 1B takes away from his value. I’m not saying we have to resign Pete. Just that there’s no reason to leave defensive talent on the shelf.
  10. I'm on board with standing ovations for Mets any time. Back to the contract. He'll be 30 in the first year of his deal. If it takes 7 years to lock him down, he might still be productive for 4-5 years of that deal. Goldschmidt, as you mentioned is now in his age 36 season. A better bet might be 3/4 years. And then you hope that he remains somewhat productive on the back end. Of course, that doesn't hold if you look at Ryan Howard and Albert Pujols. I think a few factors play in there. I think the shift played a big factor in Ryan Howard's decline. If you're making outs every time you pull the ball, it probably messes with your mechanics a bit. And with all sluggers during that era, I wonder if some of them were roided up in the early part of their careers, then put the needles away once testing got more stringent and the big contract was secured. No proof of that, of course, just wondering. As for Pete. To me, he doesn't seem like the player who would age well. But he'd almost certainly end up the career Mets leader in HRs, could be borderline HOF candidate, and would get his number retired. There's some value to that as well.
  11. Obviously, I have no idea what actually happened, but I'm thinking that if Ohtani's lawyers let him issue a statement like this, then it must be that (a) Ohtani is telling the truth, or ( the lawyers reasonably believe he's telling the truth, or © at the very least no one will be able to prove that it's not the truth. It's one thing to cover your buddy's gambling debts not knowing it's a crime. It's another thing altogether to then accuse that guy of stealing.
  12. Vic Sage wrote: funny, then tragic, and beautiful all the way through. ScarJo's best performance. Agree with this.
  13. My list. [CROSSOUT]Iron Man[/CROSSOUT] Very good. Incredible Hulk [skip] Skipped. Not available on Disney Plus. I'm sure I'll circle back to this at some point. [CROSSOUT]Iron Man 2[/CROSSOUT] [skip] Not as good as the first, but still fun. Big downgrade from Howard to Cheadle. Thor [skip] Just started. Not very good so far. Captain America I: First Avenger Marvel's The Avengers Iron Man 3 [skip] Thor 2: The Dark World [skip] Captain America II: The Winter Soldier Avengers II: Age of Ultron Guardians of the Galaxy Ant-Man [skip] Captain America III: Civil War Doctor Strange Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2 [skip] Spider-Man: Homecoming Thor 3: Ragnorak Black Panther Avengers III: Infinity War Ant-Man & Wasp Captain Marvel Avengers IV: Endgame Spider-Man: Far From Home
  14. JCL, can you tell me what streaming service you use for these movies? Feel free to message me if you prefer.
  15. Like, everyone keeps talking to me about this movie. I guess I should see it.
  16. Guardians of the Galaxy was so much fun. Loved every minute of it. I was thinking to jump right into Volume 2, but I think I'll leave it and give myself something to look forward to. I'm going to try the original IronMan and try to keep somewhat of a chronological order.
  17. Thanks! I think I'll try Guardians of the Galaxy next. I think that blue robot girl is sexy.
  18. My new affinity for running plus a subscription to Disney Plus means I have a good opportunity to catch up on the Marvel Universe. They're kinda perfect for running on a treadmill. I think I already screwed up the optimum order by watching Infinity War first. Then I watched Avengers, Age of Ultron. Then we watched EndGame together at the theater. My first movie on the app was the original Avengers, which was fun and light. Any recommendations for how to tackle the remainder of the series? I've seen none of the individual movies, or any of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
  19. They could have, and probably should have, but I was pleasantly surprised by the sequel. I hadn't heard a thing about the movie before watching it, so I guess in retrospect kick ass Bo is a little formulaic, but fun and well done. Like other Toy Story movies, it kinda glosses over kidnapping (common theme), attempted murder, and this time they throw in some good old fashioned organ harvesting. I guess in this world, toys are as bad to each other as humans are. Good to know. If in 1995, you wondered why anyone would cast Annie Potts as the damsel in distress, all you had to do was wait around until 2019 to find out she had been perfectly cast all along.
  20. The saga ends. It's been an uneven ride throughout the 9 movies. I think a lot hinges on how this story ends. Of all the people who have held the reins recently, I think I trust JJ Abrams the most to bring the story home. 21. STRONG DISAGREE MY FRIEND. PNC Park is a treasure. So, I concede that the food is bad, so you eat downtown before heading over. Lots of great pubs and restaurants to choose from. Then walk over the bridge and you're right there at the park. For me, every ballpark should be next to a bridge. Visit the statue of Honus Wagner before you walk in. A statue to commemorate their greats. What a novel concept. Once you get in, the sights are amazing. The bridges and downtown in the background...I recommend sitting on the third base line. Amazing views. There's a picnic area along the river where you can hang out pre-game. It's like being at a riverside park, except there is good beer and baseball. It's so funny, to me, this felt so spacious and nice. You can also go visit the bronze casting of Ralph Kiner's hands. This was a little weird, but if you're artsy, I guess that's a thing. As night falls, and the lights come on, you can see the skyline behind the RF fence. The Highmark building is pretty cool looking. Just an amazing place to take in a game. I recommend going to a game when deGrom is pitching and returning hero Neil Walker hits 2 HRs. https://www.ultimatemets.com/gamedetail.php?gameno=8913 This will make the experience very enjoyable. Then at night, you stumble back to your hotel room and walk over those bridges again. Breathtaking sights.
  22. Great report. How was the surrounding area?
  23. I know you're probably kidding, but there really is a lot of Flo in the park. She's in ads all around the stadium. She pops up several times on the Jumbotron. Basically, she's everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if eventually she replaces Wahoo on the Indians' hats.
  24. Wow, that's impressive. ShortCenter is going to see it with a buddy today. I'm guessing he'll want to see it again, at which point I'll try to catch it.
  25. Stop number one on our three city trip was Cleveland, a great place to visit in April if you like cold, wet weather. We started our trip with a bit of a hiccup when our Friday night game was rained out, throwing off our plans. The good news was that it was re-scheduled as a doubleheader the next day, which meant free baseball for us! Cleveland Even with the weather we had, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Cleveland. It's a pretty small city, and even though our plans were thrown off by the rainout, we still got to see a lot of the things we had on our list. We stayed in downtown Cleveland near the Browns Stadium, and within walking distance of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Progressive Field. During the summer, I can picture a family just walking around this area all day. Some highlights: *At the recommendation of Chad, we made sure to hit Ohio City, and it did not disappoint. I think this is the best area in town. West Side Market is there, tons of cool restaurants, breweries, and Mitchell's, the famous ice cream place built in an old theater. We ate at Great Lakes (also a Chad recommendation) and drank the porter (you see a theme here) and the amber ale. The beer is excellent. I had the fish and chips, and my wife had the pierogies. Both great choices. The place was a favorite of Eliot Ness. *West 4th Street is a pretty lively night spot. Lots of cool bars and restaurants. We ate at Michael Simon's restaurant Lola's. Which was pretty good but kinda pricey. *The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a must. If you like music, you can easily spend the entire day there. We only had half a day and it wasn't nearly enough time. *Cleveland Public Square is a cool place to hit on your way over to the ballpark. It's right next to Terminal Tower which, as both Chad and our tour guide told us, was for a long time the tallest building between NY and Chicago. Beautiful area. Lots of tributes to the Underground Railroad in Cleveland. Didn't know that about Cleveland, but it's pretty cool. Progressive Field We got there early and walked around the area. Lots of fun. It's right next to Quicken Loans arena and there are bars/restaurants in the area. I really wish CitiField could do something like this. Also, there were statues. Are you listening Fred? Progressive Field is nice. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you're inside it's a beautiful stadium. Given the weather, we opted for club seats, located along the first base line. These seats give you access to the club on the second deck. Food included, climate controlled. The only issue is that it was super crowded so you had to camp out if you wanted a seat. Food was ok but nothing special. If you have nicer weather, I'd rather sit somewhere else. One weird quirk about the stadium. I don't like manufactured sound either, but when they flash the graphic "MAKE SOME NOISE!!!!" it's not accompanied by any sound. In other stadiums they do drum beats, or music, or some other way to get your attention. It's really strange to see the stadium completely quiet while the scoreboard goes nuts silently. Lots of Chief Wahoo around. It really is a tougher issue than I thought. When you sit here in NY, it seems simple. Get rid of the racist mascot. But when you're there, you realize how much he means to that Indians fanbase. Without Wahoo, the Cleveland gear is super boring. I mean, we love Mr. Met, but he's not on our uniforms. A Cleveland hat without Chief Wahoo doesn't really look like anything. I think the answer is they need a better design, and most certainly a new mascot to replace him. Slider is not the answer. I drank this. Obviously a pun on the movie. It was ok. I tried to find a place that served some of the local brews we had enjoyed around town, but they weren't offered. At least where we were sitting. During Game 1, I figured the view would be beautiful at night, with the skyline in the background. But when night fell, I was disappointed to see that a lot of the buildings weren't lit. I wonder if this changes during the summertime. With the weather and the early morning trip to Detroit looming, we ducked out after three innings of Game 2. Watched the rest of the game in our hotel wishing we had more time to stay in the 'Land. The Indians swept the Braves. We got to root for Plawecki again. Good times.
