  1. Oh, and not for nothing but Jeter has acted like a jerk plenty of times. Including refusing to move from SS when a superior SS joined the team. Say all you want about "Jeter is all about winning." Not true. Jeter is all about winning AND Derek Jeter. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but let's not make him out to be more than he is. People got on Hanley Ramirez because he grumbled about moving. At least Hanley was willing to make the move.
  2. That's too bad. Now he will never be a True Met.
  3. Phillips was right not to sign him as soon as Hicks came in and offered that ridiculous contract. At that point, PED's were not on anyone's radar.
  4. dgwphotography wrote: Oh please - more of that "Real Yankee" tripe. The A-Rods and the Clemenses - the overpaid mercenaries - are the Real Yankees... Of course, this column left out the fact that his father has tried to negotiate some kind of relationship with him over the years, but ARod has rebuffed it. That would be just an inconvenient truth for the column, I guess. Yup. All Yankees are true Yankees. Some of them just happen to be assholes. I wish someone would write a column about that.
  5. I think they will wear the snow whites with the drop shadow. This remains my favorite jersey they had. The black jerseys are definitely a possibility, and I wouldn't have an objection to that. I think I am one of the few that had no problem with the black jersey. I agree with the decision to hang them up since their time had passed, but it was a sign of the times, and I thought it was cool to mix things up for a while. Considering we have the two-tone orange/blue hat this year, I think worse mistakes have been made.
  6. Heard on the broadcast last night that Niese was a few starts away from coming back. What they didn't mention is whether the tear is healing. I know he didn't need the surgery. Does that mean it fixed itself?
  7. I missed the first HR, but the next two runs were really the result of a lucky roller, and one well struck ball. The rest of the night he appeared to be in pretty good control. The command wasn't as great as the last start by all accounts, but I thought he looked pretty good. His slider does look nasty. If that leadoff bunt hit by Alvarez is an out, he's looking at 6 innings, 1ER, rather than 3 ER. But those are the breaks. Overall, I'm encouraged by what I saw. Better than anything I'd seen in previous years. They say on Metsblog that he was bothered by a bone spur. I've lost track of whether that is a minor thing or a really bad thing.
  8. Wow, that's his real name? I was sure this was another Lemur Silly. Ray NiLara? Ray nee Lara? Maybe Lara was his maiden name?

  10. Good to hear about the slider. I'm excited to watch this start tonight. I will be honest, I saw Mejia pitch earlier and wondered what all the hype was about. His fastball, though good velocity, didn't seem to fool anyone (kind of like Heath Bell when he was here). The off-speed stuff seemed subpar. I'm pumped to watch this kid tonight. By 2015, I want the Mets to have six starters in contention for the Cy Young (Harvey, Wheeler, Niese, Mejia, Montero, Syndegaard).
  11. Very cool of Mejia to tell Franky Frank to shove it. I didn't see the start last week. Was his stuff that filthy? And if so, how did he pitch all year long without anyone noticing?
  12. Wow. If that's the market nothing will happen. Really surprised there is no interest in Marlon. Consider the park he is playing in as well.
  13. Second generation contracts are tough. You want to sign a star player in his prime, but you know you're going to pay for it on the back end. For as much as we love Piazza, he gave us 4 great years, one injury shortened year, then two serviceable years.
  14. Which is why we have to prove A-Rod is getting set up here. It's all part of the conspiracy. FREE AROD.
  15. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I believe Arod may have attempted to interfere with MLB's investigation. That's part of it. But the MFYs are so desperate to extract themselves from the contract its palpable. I am sort of rooting for Arod to make things difficult for the MFYs. Sort of? I am flat out rooting blatantly for ARod. I just tattooed ARod's lawyer's face on my boob*. *the one that doesn't have Matt Kemp's grandmother on it.
  16. Tino and A-Rod are both big enough assholes to deserve their own threads no? Funny how many are trying to write this off as Tino being old school and not being able to adjust to today's player. To me, this is about an asshole who has a big ego thinking he is better than the kids he is coaching. Does this mean that Jeter would have been ok with Tino verbally abusing him and grabbing him around the neck? Fuck Tino.
  17. Hefner was clearly done way before he got the hook. Rare this season, but Collins has to take some of the blame for this loss.
  18. Is there a Crane Pool Hall of Fame? I nominate Ron.
  19. Now the head of Accounting and Finance at the University of Birmingham. Still a handsome devil: And wouldn't you know it, YouTube sensation: (On edit: I don't seem to be able to Embed. Link here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FreXxSHf0AQ. Admins, feel free to edit and help a brother out.)
  20. So on Friday, the Nats faced a young Mets starter with mid-90's electric stuff. Then in the nightcap they faced Harvey.
  21. Andrew Brown = Giant Loser
  22. Let's play three!
