  1. Sure. The Nats are flying at 14-4. And I do think that this was important for them to establish out of the gate that they are going to be in this all year long. But of their first 18 games, half of them have been against the two worst teams in baseball (Atlanta and Minnesota). They are 9-0 against these teams. The other 9 have been against Philadelphia and Miami. They are 5-4 against those teams. Look, 14-4 is still terrific. And 9-0 against even the worst teams is still great. But as Mr. Wolf might warn the Nationals, "Let's not start sucking...."
  2. WHAT is your name? I am Matthew Harvey of House Metropolitan WHAT is your quest? To conquer the Braves of Realm Atlanta WHY are you such a douchebag? Huh? What? I don't know that....AAAAAHHH
  3. I am giving serious thought to launching my "How Not To Be a Douchebag Consultants Ltd." business.
  4. I think it's a great way to build a team. Me, I don't have my dream car yet, but I have this dope set of rims and some shiny naked lady decals.
  5. What's the record for most 20 HR guys on a single Mets team? We have a legitimate shot to have 7 guys reach that mark this year.
  6. And he didn't even have his best stuff last night. So I was impressed by that. But no, there is no situation. Even Dillon Gee looked untouchable for stretches of time.
  7. Hellickson pitched well against the Mets the first time around. Hope they can get to him today. I'm probably overstating things, but I feel like tonight is a pretty big game. If they can win tonight, this could springboard them into a nice little run. The pitching matchups for the Atlanta series are downright unfair. WINNING STREAK!
  8. No one follows Ike Davis on instagram.
  9. The best news of this young season. Baby deGrom was in our thoughts all weekend.
  10. "But he cut is face!" True. And understood. THREE STEPS is not nearly enough time to: 1. Stop yourself 2. Cover your face

Big difference between "diving into the stands and then making the catch" and "making the catch then diving into the stands". It's like the issue with Jim Edmonds "diving" catches. The order in which they happen matter. Jeter was a terrific player, but things like this are what make his "legacy" irritating. His patented "jump and throw" gets glorified, but imagine if he had ever learned the simple skill of planting and throwing. Amazing how an inability to stop his momentum ends up being a legendary trait.
  12. Yeah, I'm with KC. More annoyed than worried, but I do have some concerns. Worried about health and durability of the starters and Familia, considering how much they worked last year. Worried that they will come out flat and not play with the same fire/chip on their shoulder that they did last year. Worried that the Nats will be like, a lot better. But still feel good. Let's win tonight.
  13. Matz takes the mound and rights the ship. When we all meet at the parade this fall, we'll think "Hey, remember when they started 2-3 this year?"
  14. Sounds like perfect baseball weather. Let's play ball.
  15. Here is the Lonn Trost quote in all of it's assholiness: “The problem below market at a certain point is that if you buy a ticket in a very premium location and pay a substantial amount of money. It’s not that we don’t want that fan to sell it, but that fan is sitting there having paid a substantial amount of money for a ticket and [another] fan picks it up for a buck-and-a-half and sits there, and it’s frustrating to the purchaser of the full amount.” “And quite frankly,” he said, “the fan may be someone who has never sat in a premium location. So that’s a frustration to our existing fan base.” And here you can see that frustrated fan base and how they turned out for OPENING DAY.
  16. Holy crap. I used to say that the longest day of the year was the day after Opening Day. You know what sucks more? The TWO off days following the SECOND game of the year. Just fucking play baseball.
  17. I just watched it last night. It's awesome. The Yankees. They are the Republicans of baseball. I love John Oliver as it is, but I think I have not stopped grinning since I saw that segment. Fucking brilliant.
  18. Edgy MD wrote: I like having Colon out of the pen, but you don't go for the long man in the middle of an inning (Terry). You go for a short man who can get the one big out with runners on base, and then you start the next inning with your long man. Royals fans riding Duda: not cool. That was a really cool play from the Royals perspective, and fans should be celebrating the derring-do of the guys who executed it, not glove-shaming the guys who got beat. I hope Duda hits three homers on Tuesday. There are guys with whom you're supposed to accept the strikeouts with the extra-base hits. But I never like when Wright isn't making contact. Neil Walker is pretty similar to Daniel Murphy, but I think we're going to miss Murph's bat-to-ball skills. We needed contact in the ninth last night, and I didn't know who to wish was at the plate. I've been spoiled by opening day victories. The day after opening day is horrible for any number of reasons. Living through it with a monkey on the back is situation I'm almost completely unaccustomed to. Had these same thoughts. A few more: *Harv looked good, results notwithstanding. Slider looks sharp. *I like Duda's reduced leg kick. I think it will lead to more consistency. *Cabrera looks like ass. I mean talk about no range. Very seldom is it that noticeable in one game. *Wright looks shot. Hopefully it's just sluggishness. *Like Blevins. *Conforto might be our best player. *Cespedes catch the fucking ball.
  19. Cespedes can't fucking catch. Wright looks lost. Can't remember the last time I sat through such a torturous opener. This season already sucks.
  20. I wonder if the Royals balls are chafed from ESPN licking them all night long.
  21. This is the shittiest opener ever.
  22. I'm ready. Let's do this shit.
