  1. Are they? I’d rather break in new than break down old.
  2. I don’t believe the window is closing on this core. deGrom and Noah are still young and under control. Nimmo and Conforto are stars. Rosario still has great potential. Lugo and Gsellman are weapons in the pen and Alonso is on his way. The problem is that they are not supplementing this core. You can rebuild again. But unless we hit the jackpot and are able to develop an entire team like Houston, we will be in this same position 7 years from now when the rebuild materializes again. And we will be lucky to have someone as good as Jake or Noah.
  3. No. Dom Smith’s numbers in LV don’t scream superstar but at some point you’re going to have to try him out or give up on him. What’s the point in giving these ABs away to Gonzalez. And if he sucks get him out of the way and bring in Alonso. I seem to remember Nimmo didn’t have great numbers either. Or has a year where he was down or something.
  4. This is going to be the least surprising sweep ever.
  5. Sure. If there is no roster crunch I'm fine keeping him. Gotta start giving some AB's to someone else though. Pointless to keep starting Gonzalez.
  6. Scratched from Sunday's start. His finger swelled up. Awesome.
  7. Sure. He's not doing well in Vegas, but at some point you have to see what the kid's got. Adrian Gonzalez has a .690 OPS. Really no further point in keeping him.
  8. What this illustrates is how little the Mets have added to this core over three years. Asdrubal has been a nice addition. As has Lugo and Gsellman. Nimmo this year is off to a good start. Everyone else is pretty crappy.
  9. Does Reyes even count as a switch hitter? Don't you have to hit to be called that? I would agree that he's a switch swinger.
  10. If we have to pick a defining moment, for me it was that 8th inning meltdown against Washington. They lost three straight series after that game and have never been the same. But really, this season was lost in the off-season when we failed to recognize how far off we were and brought in middling talent.
  11. It would be awesome if Steven Matz could pull a Mlicki, but I wouldn't get your hopes up. Matz has never thrown a complete game in his career. And this season, he's only thrown seven innings once. The likelihood of throwing a complete game shutout seems remote. Also remote are the chances of the Mets scoring six runs in a single game. Six runs accounts for all the run scoring for June. The likelihood of both of these things happening in the same game...
  12. The good news is that Wheeler has kept them scoreless. If he keeps it up, it will be back to back good starts for Wheeler. He had been doing the good start, bad start thing his last many turns. For those watching, is he using a splitter?
  13. I guess we are scoring all 14 runs in the last 6 innings.
  14. You know, if Gonzalez is going to bat lower in the lineup than Plawecki, I think you just let him go and try Dom Smith no? I mean, Dom isn't exactly lighting up LV, but you figure Dom can give you at least a .700+ OPS.
  15. I predict the Mets will score 14 runs today.
  16. I just hope that from now on, we understand that a team with a shit farm system can’t get away with signing Jay Bruce and Jason Vargas when competitors are signing JD Martinez and Jake Arrieta.
  17. 27th in runs scored. 24th in runs per game. 18th in team ERA. It’s amazing we have won as many as we have.
  18. I think you have to fire Alderson. We can always go back to payroll and point the finger at the owners, but that’s not going to change and we are going to be on this limited budget. We need someone who can build a winner on this limited budget and it’s becoming clear that Sandy is not that guy. Jay Bruce, Jason Vargas, Jose Reyes, AJ Ramos, all of these are moves where we would have been better off doing nothing. Gotta find the right guy to build this team knowing we are handcuffed to small market standards.
  19. If we're doing nicknames, we just drafted Jarred Colonic.
  20. Local kid. Easy to root for. See this article from earlier this year: https://nypost.com/2018/04/20/mets-prospect-getting-out-of-his-own-head-and-its-paying-off/ 2.36 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, 51 strikeouts in 45.2 innings. Walks a few batters, but seems to be doing much better than last year.
  21. Anyway, I like what I'm reading about Kelenic. Maybe a bit short for a corner OF, but sounds like a hitter and an overall athlete. I read a few articles about an eventual OF of Conforto, Nimmo and Kelenic. Let's be honest. The chances of Conforto and Kelenic being teammates is pretty slim, for a number of reasons.
  22. On the other hand, MLB drafts are great fodder for second guessers. None of us are qualified in any way to make any distinction between these players. So we are not about to actually make any selections ourselves except to pick out cool sounding names. And you can all but guarantee there will be some Cody Bellinger that emerges that your team passed on where you can say "We let Bellinger go and selected Joe Swinganmiss? How stupid!"
  23. The Orioles are a pretty good choice for an American League mistress. Great ballpark, great area with the inner harbor, rivals of the MFYs. It’s just that they’re not very good right now.
  24. I mean, he's gotta bunt right? These are not just shifts, they are ridiculous shifts that he is facing. I feel like eventually someone's going to start bunting against shifts all the time and end up with a .600 OBP. Then they'll stop shifting on him. Then everyone else will do it. Then shifts will go away. Then you'll tell your grandkids about that period of time in the 20-teens when batters rolled ball after ball into the shift and they'll say "Grandpa, were people really stupid then?" before teleporting away and posting a holographic replay of the conversation on their current form of social media.
