  1. Compare Steve Cishek signed as a feee agent to AJ Ramos. They make the same money.
  2. I think that my opinion of Callaway has fallen from “not the genius he was made out to be” to “dumb”.
  3. Infield back makes total sense. With this powerhouse offense.
  4. Omg. This fucking bullpen. Jerry Blevins again and again.

New York Mets (slot value: $5,525,200) Selection: Shane McClanahan, LHP, South Florida The Mets have gone with pitchers with their last two top picks and they could go with a hitter here, but McClanahan’s potential as a top-of-the-rotation left-hander is tough to ignore. He has 111 strikeouts in just 66 innings this season. Although his command has come and gone at times this year, McClanahan has shown plus stuff, with his fastball touching triple digits and his changeup ranking among the best in this class. The South Florida ace had Tommy John surgery his freshman year, and command issues aren’t uncommon the first couple of years after that surgery. Others in play at this spot include India and South Alabama CF Travis Swaggerty. https://theathletic.com/363388?shared_by=133087 Sounds risky to me. I think the Mets would eventually rue McClanahan.
  6. You know, if Conforto and Nimmo are for real (and they absolutely are) then those are two good outfielders to build around. Add Alonso to the mix and you've got a thumper in the middle of your lineup. Rosario is still young with the world of potential. And Plawecki may be coming around. TJ Rivera has a career .780 OPS. David Peterson has an ERA of 2.06 and a WHIP of 1.04 in his minor league career. 45 strikeouts in 48 IP. Thomas Szapucki will be back from TJ surgery later this year. And of course, we have Jake and Noah under control for a few more years. Which means that if the Mets could just supplement this young core with a few free agents, they could be terrific. Does anyone know if there are any good 3B and corner outfielders in this coming free agent class?
  7. That was good advice. I was leaning toward sending him to Peru.
  8. "With Brandon Nimmo in right field, we didn’t feel that we had a need there.” Stanton OPS: .793 Nimmo OPS: .969!!!!
  9. Was out last night, but was legitimately shocked when I saw the score update. For those that watched, was there anything noticeably different about Vargas? I can't imagine the pitcher I've watched pitching 5 scoreless against that lineup.
  10. Sandy: John, everyone is up in arms. Do something. Create a distraction. Ricco: On it! (beat) Ricco: Do we have any matches? Sandy: We keep them in the breakroom. Next to the birthday candles. Wait, why are you asking? John?

  12. I'm just going to keep bringing up the tee idea until I hear something better.
  13. Is Matz being flown back to NY for the MRI? Or did they manage to find one in Atlanta?
  14. If he goes directly to the 60 day DL, do you need to create a roster spot for him?
  15. And his HR's are not wall scratchers. They are bombs. Which suggests maybe this is sustainable? Part of what made Rickey such a good walker is that if you put one in his tiny strike zone, he'd hit it 400 feet.
  16. After a tough doubleheader earlier this week, Nimmo as now seen his OBP plummet to .422. He hasn't drawn a walk since Saturday. He has, however, hit 3 HR's in the last 7 days, bringing his season total to 5. That matches 2017. I think as word gets out about his OBP skills, he will be challenged more. So far he's been up to the task by punishing the ball. Hopefully he can keep this up. He's collected 357 MLB AB's. Has an .819 OPS over that time. Is trending upward, has good exit velocity, and his defense is improving. Also leads the team in steals in 2018 with 5.
  17. What is BBB?
  18. Sure. It's just an estimate. But when it's suggested that the Mets have just been unlucky, the estimate suggests just the opposite. Anyway, back to to the main point. There's no point in blowing up a .500 team in May. At the least, we have another few weeks to see how this plays out. And that is more or less the frustration. There really isn't anything we can do. We can't upgrade, we can't rebuild. We just have to watch this excruciating story repeat itself over and over again. This is the Mets existence. One more consideration, if the Mets do decide to rebuild, I don't see how Sandy Alderson can be allowed to continue.
  19. Rockin' Doc wrote: I decided not to watch the game last night. I checked the score with the Mets up 6-3 in the bottom of the 7th before going to bed. I awoke this morning and after grabbing breakfast thought, "Well, let's see how the Mets lost last night." I pulled up MLB and see a headline of the Braves walk off victory. I wasn't the least bit surprised. Sadly, I wasn't even upset. At this point, I am surprised when they actually win, not when they find ways to blow leads in the final innings and lose. On Monday, I was driving home. At one point I checked the score, saw that they were up 2-0 with deGrom pitching. I joked that by the time I got home, they would have blown it. And indeed, when I checked again, they had lost in excruciating fashion. That night, after the Braves came back to tie it against Conlon, I went to sleep. Last night, I watched the whole game, but when whoever it was hit the walkoff, I just changed the channel then went to bed. Ben talks about being able to sleep like a baby after losses like that. Last night, after I turned off the game, I didn't give it a second thought. This is how I am about the Mets in lost seasons. And sadly, the feeling is all to familiar. I watch because I love baseball, I watch because I love the team. But there is no passion or excitement because they have no chance. And this apathy is being felt all around. Think about RD's post above. We represent the top 1% of all Mets fans. If you are a regular on a Mets message board, you have to be a bit crazy about the Mets. But this team, this organization has managed to alienate even us. I mean, years and years of irrelevancy. Two winning seasons, then back to irrelevancy. Who the fuck would want any part of that?
  20. But think of all that salary the Wilpons saved last year.
  21. Edgy gets his wish. Let’s see what this kid has.
  22. Conforto is just swinging and missing so much this year. Just ugly. This team is just walking misery.
  23. I feel like Rosario is starting to look better at the plate. Is that just me?
  24. Good job to recover there. Those 2017 trade deadline returns really paying off.
  25. Really? Are we just going to let him give up the lead?
