  1. This seems like a recent narrative with the media that Callaways first year was hurt by not having an NL vet on the bench with him. I don’t recall hearing that at all during the season...did I miss it?
  2. Just a gut feeling that Andrew Miller is going to be a Met. Injuries and ineffectiveness will probably push down his value, making his contract not-all-that-crippling. Then they'll sign another non-closer after some of the other chips fall. With uncertainty (my uncertainty; the team probably knows what they want the payroll to be) over what the team payroll is going to be, I'm not inclined to go after that name-brand closer (ala Kimbrel) in the offseason. If things are looking good close to the trade deadline, make a move for one then if necessary.
  3. FAN couldn't get Mets once they were no longer the flagship. Now that they're back under the same corporation (if not the same station) they're allowed back on FAN.
  4. If Francesa could name five Braves I'd be stunned. He'd say Freeman, the kid at short, the kid outfielders, da pitcher who always beats the Mets...
  5. metirish wrote: Did anyone hear/see the Francesa interview? , if you are interested look for @BackAftaThis ...we know Francesa is a smug fuck but damn what a jerk https://twitter.com/BackAftaThis Heard it when it happened. Douche has to bigtime everybody. Starting right from the beginning..."they saved you for last Mike"..."yeah, they usually do."
  6. Not one question on building your own staff, nor about Callaway. Nor payroll. I know Mickey is generally expected to be safe, but it's not out of line for someone to ask about the manager.
  7. So the Omar/Ricco/JP trio is still around?
  8. That's it? Not a lot of questions of Brodie.
  9. Wally Matthews is with the Snooze now? Missed that.
  10. Gelbs gets the first question... "how long have you wanted to be a GM?" Gee Whiz, Steve, give me something a little more here.
  11. “Sustainable success” Hey CF Jeff has been reading your posts!
  12. I’m feeling like, if they’re just gonna keep Omar, Ricco, and JP (and I know that hasn’t been confirmed but it’s the impression I’m getting) and hire an agent, then what’s the point? It’s like they’re not saying to prospective GMs: “we need you to come in and build a program” rather they’re saying “we need you to come in and run OUR program.” It’s frustrating.
  13. If they really needed a bunt there they should have just let Elster bat (bunt) for himself.
  14. Lot of buzzwords there. Not a lot of “this is how I will make the team better”.
  15. Rob Pelinka is the current GM of the Lakers; he had been a player agent for about a decade. There are a number of his former clients still in the league, but I don't know how future potential negotiations with those players would be handled.
  16. I also think there is something to JCL's theory that the Wilpons like to float things out there to get the pulse of the fan base. That could explain why Melvin went from frontrunner after interviews, then once it got out there that he was the frontrunner, shortly thereafter he is removed from consideration. Maybe if enough noise is made about Brodie the Wilpons will change their minds again. [Edited to note that CF said something similar in the Melvin thread]
  17. I don't know what to think now. The Wilpons hiring an ex-agent to run their operation really has the potential to be a comical failure. Prove me wrong Brodie.
  18. I thought Bloom was going to do the conference call with the media the morning after his second interview? Has that changed?
  19. Ha. Thanks. Funny thing is I read her Wiki page before posting my question without realizing you had already done so. Yeah there’s not a lot of answers to be found there.
  20. I wish I knew a bit more about Ng. I know where she’s worked, but what’s her expertise? What is she best known for? Contracts? Personnel? Scouting?

  22. Centerfield wrote: I watched the replay. Certainly looks like Machado kicks him. If I had to guess why I'd say maybe Aguilar was taking up more of the plate with his foot (rather than toeing it and stretching) than most 1B. Agree on Aguilar taking up a bit too much of the bag. Because of that, if this had been a more bang-bang play, I would be a little more forgiving of Manny--whatever he has to do to try and beat the throw. It wasn't though. It sure seems like Manny could have avoided contact, looks like a pretty intentional kick to me.
  23. I missed it, but I guess Machado clipped Aguilar while "running" out a ground ball, leading to posturing, cleared benches, and an epic postgame burn from Craig Counsell When Brewers manager Craig Counsell was asked if Machado was going beyond the grounds of playing hard, he said, "I don't think he's playing all that hard."
  24. Is Sheffield one of the 1000 AB guys?
  25. I'm not counting that as a demerit for the Sox. Beating bad teams is what good teams do. that's how you get super-high win totals. When the Mets won 108 games in '86, there were four other NL teams with winning records (SFG, PHIL, HOU, CIN). The Mets record against those teams was 30-24; against everybody else they were 78-30.
