  1. Don't know if they qualify as Met-lovin', but let's not forget the family in Growing Pains, the Seavers. And their neighbors the Koosmans.
  2. Nice gig. Work a week then take a week's vacation.
  3. Wow, Darren Oliver. Surprise, surprise.
  4. He did say "late 80s" not "1986" though they are usually synonymous, I guess. I bet there was some dislike for Jefferies (he qualifies as a late 80s Met), and there were always whispers that teammates grew tired of Carter easily, but I lean toward your second choice above...that they're so mythologized they can be used to promote any thesis.
  5. Scary bullpen for the Nats. First the assembled body parts of Joey Eischen, now this Wookie.
  6. Are these games with the original television announcers? because I have to say, Bob Murphy was never better than in the late stages of that NLCS Game Six. I'd love to hear Murph's call again.
  7. I immediately guessed that Gregg Jefferies was the first younger than me, but he's older than me by a month. The honor goes to Chuck Carr. [Thank you Yancy for that list]
  8. FAN reporting a deal between Cablevision and SNY. Only caught a quick mention, but supposedly it will be on in time for tonight's game. Channel 60 (at least for tonight) in most areas.
  9. ]Of course, though he wasn't a bad bunter, he rarely bunted before he became a slugger and he rarely bunted after. The one time we really needed him to get a bunt down, he didn't do it.
  10. Francesa just said he spoke with Omar off the air, and Omar expects Hernandez to start the season at second base. Not an earth shattering news brief, I know. He also said Omar was willing to part with Matsui for Soriano. The Nats asked for Milledge. Gee both sides making an unreasonable demand, what a shock.
  11. ]The other countries play a high level of baseball and, you know, we have A-Rod. Brilliance.
  12. I'm wondering if this tournament would not have been better suited with fewer teams and maybe a double elimination format (as I see others have suggested). For ex., two pools of six teams rather than four pools of four. Get rid of the dead weight (sorry China, South Africa, and Italy), play double elimination in each pool, then have each pool's champ play a two out of three championship. Then we don't have to worry about earned runs per innings played.
  13. ]also that the authors are putting the book out there to make money, and to his mind, that's a bad thing that severely tarnishes teh authors' credibility That's golden, since Russo is the guy who has been humping his forthcoming book on a daily basis on his show.
  14. Hmm. Interesting in that on my Cablevision FitTV is Channel 73. Channels 70, 71, and 72 are YES, MSG, and FSN respectively. That seems like the right spot for SNY.
  15. Yeah, doesn't Omar know Black 47 is counting on that Irish Night paycheck?
  16. Don't believe in Goldman... His type like a curse... Instant Karma's gonna get him... If I don't get him first...
  17. Didn't McReynolds say something stupid before Game 7 of the NLCS, to paraphrase: "if we win it's good because I go to the World Series, and if I lose it's good because I go back to Arkansas to hunt." Not the right attitude for a New York player.
  18. I nominate a game for the top ten that I attended with my 6 year old daughter: - Seo's 1-0 shutout win over the Nationals on Friday, August 19th, when Willie left him in the game to get out of a jam in the 8th inning. Shea went just bonkers during that 8th inning. Bonus points awarded to Reyes (daughter's favorite Met) going 4 for 4 with 3 steals.
  19. The yellow bridge in the backdrop is cool. Could we paint the #7 tracks blue and orange?
  20. There goes the traditional rival of the Hudson Valley Renegades.
  21. Last week I was able to check out CELL, by Stephen King, hot off the presses from my library. I've read some comparing it to The Stand, albeit much shorter. I understand the comparison, but it's definitely its own book. I've read a good chunk of it, and it's pretty good. A bit gorier than a lot of his recent stuff (at least since Desperation). If you're a King fan, you should give it a shot.
  22. Some might actually get that right. How about asking who the Yankee manager was before Joe Torre.
  23. Jonathan Lethem writing a book about the Mets? This jumps immediately to the top of my Amazon wish list. FWIW, Motherless Brooklyn is one of my ten favorite novels ever.
  24. Wow. That's about the best endorsement I could have gotten. Thanks Cooby.
  25. It seems like Klapisch's other point is that if the voting were made public, fewer writers would make these wink, wink selections. Which may be a good point. I don't think the guys who voted for Walt Weiss would really want to have to defend that position.
