  1. Francesa and Russo just announced that Lastings got 3 games for this. He will appeal, I assume.
  2. Felix Millan was my first Met autograph, back in '73. That yearbook is long gone and forgotten, though.
  3. There's still a part of me that burns when I think about the end of the '85 season. That was 22 years ago, and we even won the World Series the next year. And still it burns me to think of Orosco giving up a HR to Cesar Cedeno, Aguilera unable to finish off the sweep in Busch, and the F'in Cardinals(tm Lenny Dykstra) celebrating on that final Saturday. I can't imagine how long I'll carry it with me if they blow this one.
  4. I remembered we were facing a lefty when discussing Delgado (let it rip, Carlos) but conveniently forgot when I buried Lastings. Prove me wrong, Milledge.
  5. Castillo at second if he can go. Delgado at first if he can go (he can rest in 10 days). Chavez in right (Green is out for the Jewish holiday, and I'm just about fed up with Milledge). And last but not least: "Here, Petey. Give me 100 pitches of your best stuff." Then cross fingers.
  6. Nice timing by Jeff for his first comments about the team in I don't know how long. Jeffy, go back to worrying about where the concessions will be at Citi Field, or dreaming up another way we can honor the Brooklyn Dodgers there.
  7. Let me be I guess the first to say that the Shea logo does not blow me away.
  8. You never know how out-of-contention teams are going to respond. Just because the Nats played us tough does not mean they'll do likewise against the Phils. We should have handled the Marlins at Shea in August, yet they won 2 out of 3. So I don't take any of these seven games with them for granted.
  9. Is it just me, or does it seem the Blue Jays always go balls to the wall against the Red Sox but curl up in the fetal position against the Yankees. Or, maybe I'm blinded by my boiling-over Yankee hatred.
  10. ^^^^ Phil Spector was once President????
  11. Edgy DC wrote: That dude was mean-angry. Shit-a-bowling-ball angry. His wife was convinced that Randolph's bullpen choices were about him thinking he was Joe Torre. I'm not sure what that meant. Maybe she means that Willie is counting on some of his pumpkins in the bullepn turning into crystal coaches in the post-season as happened with Torre in the late nineties. I'm down with 2007 Scot Schoenweis turning into 1996 Graham Lloyd
  12. I guess I'm just amazed when a Met scores from 3rd at any time that I forgot the point of this thread. My contribution, like the name of this thread, is ugly.
  13. ^^^ Not a big deal, but Castillo also had a sac fly in the first. I guess it warrants mentioning.
  14. ^^^ More huge based on the fact that everyone in the ballpark and the viewing audience knew it was coming.
  15. Yancy Street Gang wrote: I'd REALLY like to see the Mets get a win tonight because I fear that a loss may trigger a freefall that will cost us our October. Not thrilled that our hopes for tonight are in the hands of Brian Lawrence. I'd like to get a win as well, obviously. But am I the only one who has more confidence in this team on the road? I feel like they will play well the next seven days. I predict when they come home next Sunday night the magic number will be down to 4.
  16. Interesting argument, is Thome. 500 HRs 11 years of 30+ Home Runs 9 years of 100+ RBI 9 years .400+ OBP 8 years of 100+ runs scored And he's only been a full-time DH two years (06-07), so I don't think that will hurt him much. But, He's below 2000 career hits (which he will pass if he plays another year).
  17. Probably an easy answer that I missed, but why Lawrence and not Pelphrey against the Nats tonight?
  18. Never knew it was Don Criqui who called that game. Also interesting that neither he nor his analyst questioned why they didn't just take a knee.
  19. ^^^ Milwaukee's actually home for Cincy this weekend.
  20. Who is this Julie Franco of whom you speak?
  21. Keep in mind I have an hour and a half drive home from Shea, and usually my kids are pretty good about staying. The earliest I've left with my kids in the times I've taken them is the bottom of the 7th, and that was a particularly long game.
  22. Willets Point wrote: I'm actually pretty strict about not leaving a game except for "emergency" reasons like the kids are tired, or someone in your party is sick, or you need to be somewhere else. The actual state of the game should have no bearing on when you leave The only game I can remember leaving early is a Red Sox game when I was in grad school. Since I couldn't bring my backpack to the ballpark I left it in my locker at school, knowing that the academic building was open until midnight. But since this was a Red Sox game, it of course went later than midnight so I had to leave early. Keith Foulke actually blew a save of a brilliant Curt Schilling start, so I figured I wouldn't miss much anyhow. You can check out Baseball Reference to see exactly what I missed. Lots of once and future Mets (plus a handful of Lopezes) in that one for the Os. I tend to leave early moreso now than in the past if I have my young kids with me, especially if it's a night game.
  23. Happy 32nd birthday Luis! You look more than ever like the world's oldest living 32-year old. If I had never seen him play before, I would wonder if the guy ever does any pre-game stretching.
  24. I was at the Billy Joel concert (referenced by Greg above) at the Garden the night the Mets won Game 6 in Houston. I, along with what seemed like about 500 others, stood outside the hotel across the street (the Pennsylvania, maybe?) and watched the final outs on the TV of the hotel bar before heading in. The concert started late, as no one was entering the Garden while the game was still going on. On stage, there were Mets hats left at each of the band members spots on stage. Billy apologized for starting late, but they were watching "a ball game." Throughout the show, he gave updates on who was winning the Angels/Red Sox Game 7.
  25. Have any other sports stadiums "closed" with concerts? Can't think of any, but I might be wrong.
