  2. U2. And that's probably the same answer I would have given in 1990.
  3. Can't you wear the cap Brian? Does your wife have to hold it for you? Does she get you dressed in the morning too?
  4. ]Jack Morris: His numbers might not stand out among the all-time greats, and this is a vote on which I could change in the future. ]Dave Parker: He was a Yes for me last year, but I just wasn't feeling him this year. His 339 homers fell short of Dawson and Jim Rice, for instance, as did his .471 slugging percentage. Maybe I'll flip back the other way on him next year, but he's a No for now. ]Lee Smith: I voted Yes last year, but the more intelligent analysis you read about closers, the less you tend to appreciate them. Smith didn't even average 1 1/3 innings per appearance. No. ]Alan Trammell: I went the other way on him: No last year, Yes this year. While I appreciate Davidoff explaining his votes, this drives me crazy. A guy should be a Hall of Famer or he should not be a Hall of Famer. If you vote for him once, you should keep voting for him. Likewise if you vote against a guy.
  5. ]"I want to state clearly and without qualification: I did not take steroids, human growth hormone or any other banned substances at any time in my baseball career or, in fact, my entire life,'' I also didn't inhale, and I did not have sex with that woman.
  6. ]But in 1998, the Mets began including black in the teams home and away uniforms, in various combinations. The black was added as a style element based on some degree of research of fans in terms of what was popular in the marketplace, Dave Howard, the Mets executive vice president of business operations, said on Thursday. A good 7-8 years after the White Sox initially made it popular. Way to keep up that market research up with the times, Dave. What's up for 2009? Segways to bring relievers in from the bullpen? ]Mr. Howard said that the Mets uniforms would remain the same through 2007 but that the team might revisit the issue for the opening of the clubs new ballpark in 2009. Still, he said, if you look around the building, youre seeing a lot of the black, so its clear fans vote most effectively with their pocketbook. Why, then, was Mr. Campbell wearing a predominantly black Mets jersey? It was the only one I could get, he said ruefully. That bothers me most. The inability to get reasonably priced Mets clothing that is not in black.
  7. But Andy, using it to get healty faster is a competitive advantage, whether you want to call it that or not.
  8. The story I hear on FAN is that his trainer purchased steroids. Again, bad for Clemens, but it does leave him a little wiggle room for excuses, which I think we'll be saying about just about everybody on this list.
  9. My first thought is that maybe Ray-Missouri himself is the cause of death. Hmm.
  10. 5 guys for Tejada? Wow. Seems like an awfully steep price. And didn't the Angels offer a better package to the Os a while back?
  11. Has Boba Fett had George Vecsey frozen in carbonite the last two years?
  12. 50 to 80 names? Seems like they spent an awfully long time and effort to come up with such small numbers. I don't believe this will "close the book" on the steroids era, rather we'll still have almost as many questions as before. Because there must be other Kurt Radomskis out there.
  13. Your dad was one of the Van Buren Boys? Hardcore.
  14. His off-his-shoetops opposite field single that provided insurance in Game 3 of the NLDS, finishing off the sweep of the Dodgers.
  15. Chris Chambliss should have hit it at him.
  16. Baseball Reference has both Molitor and Baines as correct.
  17. Those look like 21st Century Cops, too.
  18. Vic Sage wrote: (s)crappy = feisty, little guys who can't play but run and slide hard, hustle and are very "competitive". Were backman and dykstra too good to be scrappy? Then Ron Hunt was probably too good to be scrappy, too. so, lets see... who was that utility player from St.Louis we carried for a few seasons? He was definitely scrappy. I seem to recall a certain amount of scrappiness attached to Tim Bogar and Marco Scutaro. Bobby Valentine was a scrappy player. So was Billy Almond, as i recall. Who else? I was referring to a piece on SNY, whatever the show Julie Donaldson hosted, where they named the five scrappiest Mets. We discussed it here at teh time: http://cranepoolforum.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6991
  19. Keith Miller, one of the five (s)crappiest Mets.
  20. Credit to a caller on FAN who pointed out that one reason the Nats could let Schneider go is that they had Flores in their system, the same Flores they claimed from the Mets last year. So you could look at it like Milledge and Flores for Schneider & Church, which makes it look even worse.
  21. Per Omar: Ryan Church, your starting right fielder.
  22. Ehhh, Mrs. Schneider would be a fourth outfielder on a really good Wifey Watch team.
  23. Valadius wrote: Jayson Stark is insinuating that Milledge's value has taken a big fall this offseason. But they didn't have to trade him.
  24. I can't find confirmation, but they're talking like it's already happened.
  25. Milledge for Schneider and Church? That's what they're saying on the FAN.
