  1. A fellow Met fan gave me this harsh analysis of Milledge: "We were sold on him as a five-tool guy. Is he even a two-tool guy?" I'm not that down on Lastings, but I'm also not sure he's ready to be the everyday RFer in 2008.
  2. I've heard on three occasions in the past couple of days from Mike and the Mad Dog, Buster Olney, and Boomer Esiason (I know, I should consider the sources) the following theory: - If Jorge Posada doesn't get what he wants from the Yankees, the Mets will be there to offer him big money. Putting aside the fact that I wouldn't consider it prudent to put big money in a catcher on the north side of age 35, does anyone believe this to be true? I have this bad feeling I'm going to see a press conference with Omar and Willie talking about what a winner and gamer he is, while the Wilpons sport an annoying "we stole a vital cog from the Yankees" grin.
  3. Eckstein doesn't limp every time he runs to first, however.
  4. Following Game 3 of last year's NLCS, the Mets may have taken advantage of this rule (had it been available to them) to rid themselves of Trachsel. Now Trax would have been ineligible for the WS, but he was hurt (supposedly) and Willie had lost all faith in him anyway. They could have added some bullpen help (R. Hernandez?) or activated El Duque if he was healthy. Either way I think it would have worked to the Mets benefit.
  5. I guess I still have Met hangover, but I don't have the same joy as on Elimination Days past.
  6. At least he doesn't look like he's in pain every time he runs the bases.
  7. Atkins leads off the 4th with a double, but Hawpe and Spillborghs pop out. Torrealba up with 2 outs.
  8. The Great Kazuo leads off the 3rd with a double, then gets stranded.
  9. LaTroy Hawkins is alive and well?
  10. That's a shock.

  13. I should point out I was a little too young to fully appreciate the ramifications of the Seaver trade, or I'm sure it would be up there.
  14. ="Farmer Ted"]Which hurts more, this or Kenny Rogers walking in the winning run? Rogers wasn't even the worst moment from that game. I thought the blown saves by Franco and Benitez hurt much more. By the time Kenny was in the game, I figured it was over.
  15. My saddest NYM moment was coming up short in 1985. Since that wasn't an option, I'll take 2007.
  16. Let's go, Ollie. I want to see 8 exhuberant leaps over that foul line tonight.
  17. I'm glad they got all those postseason seats by the plate up in time.
  18. Very similar circumstances to this year, too. The Mets had lost I think 8 of 9 going into the last weekend, going from in command of the wild card to needing a prayer.

    Okay

The offense shares the blame for last night, imo. The Mets scored 6 runs in the first four innings, then when their opponent counterpunched, they did nothing, nada, zip, the last five innings. As bad as the 5th was, Schoenweis, Duque, and Heilman kept it a 1-run game for 3 innings, and the offense did not capitalize.
  20. I've already begun my search for an answer to my kids' (8 and 4) big question tomorrow night: "Why is everybody booing and yelling at the Mets?" Suggestions for a (diplomatic) answer welcome.
  21. Gotta pose this question: if we need the final game of the season, does anybody really have any confidence in Glavine after his last two starts?

Valadius wrote: Baseball-Reference hasn't updated its stats to show yesterday's games, but as of yesterday, in the National League, David Wright was: 1st in times on base 2nd in runs created 3rd in OPS+ and power/speed number 5th in OBP 6th in runs scored and hits 7th in total bases, stolen bases, and walks 8th in RBI and OPS 9th in batting average and games played 10th in plate appearances I just checked Holliday: 1st in Hits, Total Bases, Doubles, RBI, Runs Created, Extra Base Hits 2nd in Batting Average, Slugging pct. 4th in Runs Scored, Home Runs, OPS, Times on Base 9th in OBP, Plate Appearances It's Game and Set, and Holliday is serving for the Match.
  23. ="soupcan"]="SteveJRogers"]If you feel that way Soupy, then I'll just continue your themed album covers Appreciate the effort, Steve-a-rino, but you're kinda missing the point. It's about showing the number... And, appropriately, things are quite Urgent with this team.
  24. Fell into four freebies for Friday night. Bringing the family. Puts me in the unenviable position of wanting the Mets to clinch ASAP, but also wanting to be there when they clinch.
  25. My big regret of that series was not the Scioscia HR, it was the fact that we won the first 2 games started by Hershiser and still couldn't polish them off. We beat the bullpen in those games, yes, but I thought that winning games 1 & 3 when he started the game would be a big psychological advantage. I was wrong, apparently.
