  1. But we got Burgos!!!
  2. He did n't want to take the bus over there, so there bringing the machine to him.
  3. A renovation is what the Dodgers are doing to the concourses at Dodger STadium. A renovation is adding seats to the Monster at Fenway Park. When it takes two years, and a whole new stadium is built, that's not a renovation. Chicago Bears built new Soldier Field right on site of old Soldier Field. The columns are still there, with the shell of the new stadium constructed inside. The team, on its site, calls its home "New Soldier Field", opened 2003.
  4. And Milledge adds a 2-run bomb in the 6th. 6-2 Nats.
  5. If his wife looks like LoDuca, somebody should hit him.
  6. Both ex-Mets on the Nats, Lastings and LoDuca, have been hbp by Myers today. Coincidence?
  7. Florida - UNDER 68.5 St. Louis - OVER 78.5 Houston - OVER 72.5 Colorado - UNDER 82.5 Atlanta - OVER 84.5 NY Mets - UNDER 93.5 Arizona - OVER 86.5 LA Dodgers - OVER 87.5
  8. M & MD are acting as though it is near official. And of course saying it's a bad trade for the Mets.
  9. Every morning we'll open up the paper to read this guy's column on the fictional Mets:
  10. He makes his dates pay for their own parking.
  11. Let me go against conventional wisdom for two picks: Matlack 1973 Darling 1984 More conventional choices: edit: I see these two were already guessed.
  12. Not that I have any idea, but are we talking runs or earned runs?
  13. Green's power retired four years ago.
  14. 1) Will we see the 2006 Duaner Sanchez? 2) Will Pedro give us a full season? 3) Will Delgado not suck for the bulk of the season? 4) Will the world's oldest living 32-year-old, Luis Castillo, do anything to justify his 4 year contract? 5) Does Billy Wagner have enough left in the tank to close out important games in August, September, and (hopefully) October?
  15. I shouldn't get involved, but: What were the Phillies in 64 again? Was it 6 up with 10 to play? Isn't that worse than 7 up with 17 to play?
  16. I was in Cooperstown this weekend. Save the Hall of fame Game is a big theme of many of the local merchants. One thing they griped to me about is the timing of this year's game (the last few as well): In May, kids are still in school, it's the day after Fathers Day, and you have much fewer people in town. But they'd rather have it that day than not at all. My thought? Put lights on Doubleday Field and get a NY-Penn league team. They'd have a natural rivalry with Oneonta, and the summer crowds in town would have somewhere to go at night.
  17. Just saying Dave Schneck always brings a smile to my face.
  18. I thought McNamee gave this to the Feds before Clemens testified?
  19. ]The fight takes place in the Coliseo de Gallos (Rooster Coliseum) in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic's biggest cockfighting venue. Cockfighting is legal and popular in the Dominican Republic. There's something quite breezy, casual, and funny about how they wrote this. Almost like it came from page 1 of the Santo Domingo Chamber of Commerce's brochure.
  20. The NY Post Chimes in: THE COUNCIL'S CLEMENTE CLAPTRAP January 23, 2008 -- True to its tradition of sticking its nose where it doesn't belong, the City Council wants to honor baseball great Roberto Clemente by instructing Major League Baseball on how to do business. Specifically, a council committee resolved yesterday to ask MLB to retire permanently Clemente's uniform number - 21, worn for 18 seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Few players would merit such an honor more than Clemente - a Hall of Famer and a tireless humanitarian. Indeed, he was killed in a 1972 plane crash while delivering disaster-relief aid in earthquake-ravaged Nicaragua. But only one number has ever been retired league-wide: Jackie Robinson's 42. That decision was announced on the 50th anniversary of Robinson's breaking the sport's color barrier - suggesting that baseball knows how best to honor its groundbreaking players. And it does: The league presents the Roberto Clemente Award every year to the player who best embodies Clemente's humanitarian spirit. But the council, forever in search of ways to justify itself, now figures it knows better. It's simply beyond comprehension. Get a life, councilpersons.
  21. ^^^^ Middle row, third from left: Who he?
  22. I kind of agree with Lunchbucket. Gooden probably would have been brought along more slowly. If you believe that, then he doesn't provide those 41 wins in those two years. Maybe Gooden takes Sid's spot. Then maybe Sid never develops the way he did. it's a good argument. But if having Seaver back in those years meant that I didn't get to see Doc's 1985...I don't know. Yeah, I would rather have won the division, but Doc's 85 season was so special.
  23. Second try, and I can't possibly go through all of them. I am dying to find out who loves Glen Frey solo. Viola - Glen Frey Whitehurst - Randy Travis Thornton - Commodores O'Malley - Morrison Teufel - Springsteen
  24. I must have missed it in the movie, but they isolated Manhattan island so as not to let the virus escape? So did they explain how the virus left the island, or did it already do so? [Potential spoiler below] And if all the bridges and tunnels into Manhattan were destroyed, how did the lady and her son drive up from Maryland?
  25. Wow. Yes to Dawson, Murphy, Parker, and Trammell, but no to Jim Rice?
