  1. The Aug. 20, 1973 game was my first ever at Shea. Left in the 11th, got home to see the Reds score 5 in the top of the 16th.
  2. I didn't know the Yankees were doing something similar. Here is what I found on another board: this is what i have witnessed, or found online. 81-80 - George Steinbrenner (Blue Jays, 4/1/08) 80-79 - Steve Smith, Ahmad Bradshaw and Aaron Ross NYG (Blue Jays, 4/2/08) 79-78 - Paul ONeill (Blue Jays, 4/3/08) 78-77 - John Flaherty (Rays, 4/4/08) 77-76 - Joe Peptinone (Rays, 4/5/08) 76-75 - Yogi Berra (Rays, 4/6/08) 75-74 - Zach Parise of New Jersey Devils (Rays, 4/7/08) 74-73 - Bucky Dent (Red Sox, 4/16/08) 73-72 - Tino Martinez (Red Sox, 4/17/08) 72-71 - _____________(Tigers, 4/29/08) 71-70 - Billy Crystal (Tigers, 4/30/08) 70-69 - _____________(Tigers, 5/1/08) 69-68 - Bobby Murcer (Mariners, 5/2/08) 68-67 - _____________(Mariners, 5/3/08) 67-66 - Michael Kay (Mariners, 5/4/08) 66-65 - _____________(Indians, 5/6/08) 65-64 - Buck Showalter (Indians, 5/7/08) 64-63 - _____________(Indians, 5/8/08) If accurate, and I can't say that it is, especially since I believe at least one of those games was rained out, one of the local teams seems to be "getting it" and the other is not.
  3. Not to kill the suspense, but I heard Craig Carton of WFAN's Boomer and Carton morning show say that he and Boomer would be taking off the number sometime "on the next homestand." Sadly, it's hardly a surprise that this countdown is as weak as it has been.
  4. There goes the shutout.

  6. On an 0-2 pitch, no less.

  8. [digression] I once chatted up a girl in Penn Station; turned out to be Bill Mazer's niece. Got her phone # but never ended up seeing her again. [end] Now back to Straw anniversary discussion. For instance, why did Mike Howard get one, and only one, start in right that year?

  10. Wally Backman might be a candidate to appease the fans who are looking for a manager who shows a little fire. Or at least displays a pulse. I think a team will give Backman a chance one day and will get results.
  11. A walk's as good as a hit, right? Well, Wright has 2 walks!
  12. I scored tickets to the 5/31 game. I am bringing the kiddies and bringing the wife, and I really don't know how the mrs will feel about getting to the park early for this occasion. Then again, I've never been to a CPF gathering, so I will try to at least get there for a little while.
  13. Of course, when you walk 5. That doesn't mean your second baseman can't make a play behind you when you are struggling. I didn't see the play, so just wondering how bad of an error it was.
  14. How bad was the Castillo error? Did anyone see it?
  15. AG/DC wrote: Worst. No-hitter. Ever. Not anymore. 3-0 on a Sanchez hit.
  16. Ugh. Mclouth bases loaded walk and its 2-0. Thats 5 BBs for Perez.
  17. Error on a Gorzellany grounder by Castillo and its 1-0.
  18. Make it four walks. The bags are drunk with one away.
  19. Top second and Ollie has already walked three. 2 on, 1 out.
  20. Current Streak: 0 games Longest Streak: 0 games 4/30: David Wright
  21. ="SteveJRogers"] Remover Representatives of Lincoln Mercury Lame, Mets, lame. Let's pick up the pace here.
  22. When I see Alou in uniform in left field is when I will start to believe he's returning.
  23. HahnSolo wrote: ="Triple Dee"]According to Adam Rubin of the Daily News, Alou will begin his rehab with St Lucie Mets on the weekend. What are the chances Alou tweaks some other body part on his rehab assignment and misses another three weeks? If you guessed yes, and guessed ankle, you won!
  24. Rockin' Doc wrote: It's sad, but for this series, I don't even think you can realistically say "they battled". More like they laid down and played dead. I thought Figueroa battled. Before the game I had visions of him giving up 6 earned in 2 1/3 innings. But he gave us some good innings, and left with the game still within reach.
  25. As Fred Imus might say, "this team can't suck enough."
