  1. If 30 IP is the best he can do, then no.
  2. Most of the value for relievers in last year's free agent market came from guys coming off down years. I don't know if there's a Tony Watson to be had this year, though. The Mets know Blevins better than anybody does at this point, so I would trust the assessments of our manager and pitching coach as to whether or not he has something left in the tank.
  3. It's funny; I looked at the first two items on this page without checking the date and was about to reply "Are you nuts? Nimmo's 2018 was better than Sanchez's 2017!" It's also funny that we're talking about most of the same players. All the same criticisms for Ramos still hold for example, but he can still hit when healthy. Alderson deserves some credit for hanging on to Nimmo when, this time a year ago, a lot of teams called about him. I do think Sanchez highlights the risk with catchers. A few dings and dents, and suddenly they aren't all that. Some absurdly bad luck (a .197 BABIP can't all be attributed to the shift) didn't help his cause, to be fair. But it justifies some degree of caution if a team is trying to extort us for a guy coming off a career-best .825 OPS.
  4. I'd be all for taking no-risk fliers on guys like that. Or seeing if I could get him or somebody similar now, knowing that I have the luxury of keeping him off the 40 if Zamora is better.
  5. Oops.
  6. Here I thought Santana was undealable, and he's been dealt twice. And the offseason is still young.
  7. First he gets put through waivers, and another team may claim him under the same restrictions. If he goes unclaimed, the Mets would offer to return him to Cleveland, but some other arrangement could be worked out. Dowdy looks like a long shot, but Callaway had to know him from his time in Cleveland and presumably liked something that he saw.

  9. I've always liked Familia. He was betrayed by his defense more than his fair share, but he remained solid for us. I do agree with Mex that an established lefty would be nice, though.
  10. There are enough parallels between Rosario's 2018 and Jose Reyes' 2005 that I'd be reluctant to part with Rosario. Obviously there's no guarantee you'll get the same results, but if the light switch clicks on I want him wearing a Mets uniform when it happens.
  11. Neither Iglesias nor Galvis would be a bad pickup. They would guarantee an upgrade at the shortstop position relative to last year, on defense alone. Guillorme was miscast at third base last year, but the scouting reports say his glove is plus at short and plus-plus at second. I'd be OK with him getting a bench spot -- his K/BB rates were actually very encouraging, so I don't think he's hopeless as a hitter.
  12. If you forced me at gunpoint to pick one it would be Rosario, but I do not believe giving up five years of him, or four of Nimmo, or three of Thor or Conforto is worth two years of Realmuto. I'd vote none of the above.
  13. Centerfield wrote: A guy who doesn’t crack the top tier in OPS cannot be a franchise player. This. Realmuto is one of the better catchers in the league right now, but he is not Gary Carter or Mike Piazza in their primes.
  14. I don't want to speculate on BVW's motivations, beyond making headlines in the offseason and putting his stamp on the team as quickly and as deeply as possible. While I can respect that he's willing to get creative to make something happen, I'm not so sure he appreciates that "creative" doesn't always equate to "smart." But we'll see how this pans out.

A pretty good guess in my opinion. How many outfielders do the Phils need? I wonder how this affects their Bryce Harper chase. Hoskins is moving back to first base next year, so it's not overly crowded. I like seeing past-their-prime players get overpaid by division rivals. (Hell, I'd be doing a jig if the Phillies outbid us for Cano.)
  16. No that the Jays have been particularly competent lately, but I can't imagine they would have simply released Tulo if he still had any potential value.
  17. Yankees: Go fuck themselves. We don't really need a presser to announce that one, do we? Actually, I'm not in principle opposed to talking to the Yankees. I'm curious to know what the price is on Sonny Gray, for example. But I'm really starting to get nervous when I hear a trade rumor that involves something complicated.
  18. It's his job to deliver an electric shock to Callaway if he tries to signal for Tim Peterson to come into the game.
  19. The Marlins are hoping that at least one of the fourteen rumored suitors is totally overvaluing Realmuto, which may turn out to be a reasonable gamble. But I wouldn't trade either outfielder straight up; they both have comparable value for more years under cheap control.
  20. Pretty good with the bat and glove, not prohibitively expensive salary-wise. I'm not sure I'd pay a lot with no guarantee of regular playing time, but he could be a useful asset.
  21. Will it be too confusing if they have to use feet here and meters in Canada?
  22. Of course, if Cano is not that good of a hitter by the end of his contract, why would sticking him at DH be an appealing option? (Assuming people still care about baseball once the current commissioner gets through ruining it, that is.)
  23. I don't think Frazier is done. Like too many other Mets, he played hurt through a significant chunk of the season. He still managed a reasonable WAR due to his glove. That being said, it's not clear what his role is going into next season.
  24. Has anybody heard anything on the state of Rivera's recovery?
  25. Speaking of TJ, what's he up to?
