  1. The difference in defensive value between him and Lagares or Broxton is at least comparable to the difference in offensive value.
  2. =Centerfield post_id=583 time=1546642046 user_id=65]One wonders, if George Steinbrenner were alive, would he have a $400 million payroll?
  3. Yeah, the middle and lower tier free agents just want to get signed at this point, and there are bargains to be had.
  4. Drew Pomeranz goes to the Giants for a year and $1.5M, with incentives that could bring it up to $5M. And Jason Vargas is still our fifth starter.
  5. I'd have said 85. But barring the Nationals re-signing Harper, I'm much more worried about the Phillies and Braves.
  6. Reports are saying that Asdrubal Cabrera is going to the Rangers for one year and $3.5M. I'm rather shocked that he fared worse than Flores. If we didn't already have five more infielders than we need, I would have happily taken him back at that price.
  7. Getting back to baseball: the Yankees wound up with the Mariners #10 for Gray, which was as much as they could hope for. The Reds extended Gray for three more years, which will look great if he rights the ship and terrible if he doesn't. They did do OK getting something out of Matt Harvey, who had a steeper hill to climb than Gray does.
  8. The legend only grows.
  9. I'm pretty sure I have both those cards somewhere. He looks so young, with his whole life ahead of him. I hope he made the most of it.
  10. I think Longoria should focus on the doubling of revenue league-wide since A-Rod's first mega-contract, while salaries have only gone up 40%. Analytics is hardly the problem. The league collectively not wanting to hand out contracts that everybody knows they can afford is.
  11. Pollock has the upside to be the second best centerfielder in baseball, and an injury history that makes Lagares look like Cal Ripken. He would intrigue me on a short-term deal for one or two years, but the risks outweigh the benefits for anything longer than that. Of course, you would also be trading a draft pick for one or two years of a high-risk player, so he'd also have to come at a good salary for me to bite. I agree with CF that the team could use a starter and more bullpen help. Like I was telling my dad, we brought in all these infielders, but I trust TJ Rivera more than I trust Jason Vargas. I do think Avilan was a good pickup -- but as somebody to compete with Zamora for one of two bullpen spots for lefties, with the other going to somebody who's substantially more than just a LOOGY. At this point, the latter has to come via trade, but it could/should still happen.
  12. This will always be my favorite memory of Wilmer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmL4rNYmJ9Uhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmL4rNYmJ9U Thought from day 1 that he would become a 30 HR lineup staple. Doesn't matter - i still love him. The turning point of the best season the Mets have had in 32 years.
  13. $4.25M guaranteed. He did well for himself.
  14. Jedi? OK, he'd better earn that one.
  15. =Centerfield post_id=1110 time=1547478536 user_id=65]I mean, would you rather go Machado-McNeil, or Lowrie-Cano?
  16. McNeil-Cano-Rosario-Lowrie. Alonso won't be up right away, and it would be self-defeating not to play McNeil ahead of Smith or Frazier.
  17. Chili Davis lost the Red Sox hitters and Cubs hitters in successive seasons. He's my biggest concern of the offseason so far (and I really didn't want Cano).
  18. They've kind of implied that they'd like to move Andujar off of third base.
  19. Got no problem with the player or the price, but unless one of our infielders is an outfielder in disguise, or a trade or two is in the works, the money could have filled much bigger needs. I still think the Yankees might take Frazier for Sonny Gray. What I wouldn't do is give up a cost-controlled position player with five or six years of control for bullpen help.
  20. Well that chat was quick and little. Nothing wrong with doing due diligence on everybody, but this didn't seem like a good match.
  21. =Centerfield post_id=911 time=1547095216 user_id=65] $18.25 is the number. So the choice was 18.25 for one year of Grandal, or $19.5 million for two years of Ramos? Give me Ramos any day.
  22. My guess is that they talked to Dozier before the JD Davis trade. They still have Cecchini, Rivera, and Herrera at AAA, so I'd rather bank on one of them to step up to a reserve role than go out and spend (especially if resources are limited). And I really don't see any room for Dozier to start anywhere with us.
  23. Of course. If you feel the market is going to come back to you, you should do that even if you're sitting on a boatload of cash. It's the part where the beat guys think there's not much money left to spend. I'm seeing it in a few different places, and I can't believe that this could be true. Even Brodie himself said a few weeks ago that there is "real money" left to spend. Those rumors are pretty much annual with the Mets. We will see how things play out. There will be plenty of time to comment on the budget when we see what it actually is. By my math, we still are about $10M shy of last year (including Wright's policy, which is half his salary rather than 3/4 of it because he finished the season on the active roster, but not including any Cespedes payouts because we don't know any specifics of his policy or how much total time he'll miss). I'd be shocked if we don't spend at least that much, although it would be disappointing if we only spend that much.
  24. It was a small sample size that got punctuated by a hamstring pull fielding a grounder. I still had hopes for him.
  25. Ollie was strictly a LOOGY when we gave him that $36M extension. I'll say a trade. Most likely Will Smith or Tony Watson from the Giants.
