  2. =LWFS post_id=55032 time=1611847707 user_id=84] The Rickey Retinue? The problem with naming something after Rickey is, there's a LOT of quirks with Rickey. You'd have to remind someone you're telling about this that you're not talking about his legendary trash talk, or talking about himself, or weird-ass work habits. (Or, y'know, the basestealing and best-leadoff-hitter-ever things.)
  3. Glad to see a centerfielder in that list.
  4. Lucchesi made Matz redundant, and either would have been a seat warmer for Syndergaard this year even if no other deals get made. Personally I would have non-tendered Matz, so getting three borderline prospects is a perfectly acceptable haul.
  5. In 2015 it looked like our rotation was all aces for years to come. If anything, Matz was the most frustrating of the bunch. Harvey and Syndergaard were held back by major injuries, but Matz just seemed to stop being all that good.
  6. Loup's best years were his first three, when he was pitching to contact and not trying to pump up his K rate. Then it looks like somebody gave him bad advice. The Rays seemed to get him back towards his earlier approach, although his .219 BABIP last season was not sustainable. Still, he's at least serviceable, and could be above average for that role. Looks like a pretty good pick-up.
  7. There are things I like about Bradley, but his lefthandedness might make him a poor fit. I'd keep his agent on my Contacts list for now.
  8. Well if we get Gilmartin, maybe we can hire his wife to give scouting reports to our opponents.
  9. Say the Mets get half a year of 4.00 ERA from Lucchesi and half a year of 3.20 ERA from Syndergaard. Is Bauer worth $33M more than that? I'm concerned that the Mets were told to spend to the luxury tax threshold, then didn't pull the trigger on multiple free agents, and are now determined to get somebody with the money they still have even if he's not the best fit.
  10. =Centerfield post_id=54765 time=1611626228 user_id=65] Hi. I'm Oliver Perez. And I demand to be in the cart.

  12. I got no gripe with Wilson. Doolittle is too much of a lottery ticket at this point.
  13. $10M for Familia, $7M (among other things) for Diaz, $6M for Betances because somebody thought offering a player option in what should have been a "prove it" contract was a good idea, $2m for Brach for the same reason, plus arbitration for Lugo, Gsellman, Castro, and even Jacob Barnes, that's already 3 more righty relievers than you even want. If May is a better investment than anything Brodie concocted, I'm not going to complain about his signing so much. But the possibility exists that Brodie's tenure is continuing, and will continue, to hold the team back.
  14. The best interests of the game are served twice.
  15. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=54674 time=1611462382 user_id=68] I'll tell you this much, the Realmuto whiff never made much sense to me, especially the line that they wouldn't have been able to trade for Lindor if they had signed Realmuto instead of McCann.
  16. Bauer has had a bunch of "eh" seasons and two very good ones. The first good season was 2018, where he had a HR/FB rate that was way lower than any other year. The second was last year, where his BABIP was .215 -- again, way lower than any other year. I think the best case scenario for him is an ERA that averages in the low threes. So basically, you could justify giving him what Wheeler got. Anything more than that is asking for serious trouble. But even then, we already have DeGrom, Carrasco, Stroman, Peterson, and probably Syndergaard for the second half. Given that you could have gotten a high-quality righthanded bat who's at least average with the glove in center, or you could have gotten Realmuto instead of McCann, would Bauer really give the team the best upgrade for the money? I think the answer is no.
  17. Bradley did appear to modify his approach at the plate last season (higher walk rate, lower K rate) with favorable results, plus his best season came with Chili Davis as his hitting instructor and he's still a solid fielder. I'd have much preferred Springer, but I'm not against Bradley at this point.

  19. Chili Davis has worked with Almora, so we already know if there is anything there that is not seen in the numbers. The same can be said for Jackie Bradley, who had an All-Star season under Davis' watch, but then had three mediocre seasons followed by a bounce-back last year.
  20. And he's out. One extremely memorable trade that may be difference-making for years to come, but he deserved to go and go quickly.
  21. Lucchesi makes Matz redundant, which make you wonder why he was tendered a contract in the first place. I suppose it's possible that they see one of them as being long relief/extra left arm, but they have a full pen of righties under contract and don't have a first lefty yet.
  22. He's basically Davis with even less defensive value. Barring an injury to Davis or Alonso, or a last-minute switch to the universal DH, I don't anticipate much of an impact.
  23. No doubt it was somebody with left-handed intentions.
  24. Has work to do with the bat -- not patient and minimal power -- but he was very good for 21. The kind of guy who could surge forward or flatten out with equal probability. But he was an easy guy to root for.
  25. Had some really good stretches and some really bad ones. The talent is definitely there. I don't think the Mets waited overly long for the consistency to materialize, but Francisco Lindor was available.
