  1. Lee slides in to #7 on our prospects list at mlb.com.
  2. I would guess that a couple of prospective deals that were completely unrelated at first somehow got merged. I'm curious about the process on this one. I wonder if the first choice for the PTBNL is in the process of clearing waivers as we speak.
  3. A prospect off of anybody's top 10 list for Matz is a win. Lee can draw walks and has 50-steal speed, which is an intriguing combination. But he has to show more with the bat. If I learned anything from watching Eric Young Jr., it's that the willingness and ability to work to the count will only get you so far at this level if pitchers don't respect your ability to make them pay for staying in the strike zone.
  4. In fairness, he had miserable luck. I suppose the best thing you can say about his Met tenure is that his injuries unburied Jeff McNeil on the depth chart.
  5. =LWFS post_id=55915 time=1612988176 user_id=84] Oh, he'll play, like, 140 games for the A's
  6. =Fman99 post_id=55772 time=1612883836 user_id=86]Going on record as hating the 7 inning DH

It is definitely insurance if Davis does not hit well enough to make his glove tolerable. Given that McNeil can be moved around the diamond, it is also good insurance in the event of an injury to basically anybody.

  9. Had a very good season in Baltimore two years ago. Not a great defender up the middle, but he won't kill you. His power numbers plummeted last year, in a way that makes me think he was playing hurt. Has hit a little bit better from the right side over his career. I'm kind of surprised he had no offers to start somewhere, because he doesn't have a clear path to ABs here. But as switch-hitting reserve middle infielders go, we could do a lot worse.
  10. Somewhere, my dad has pictures from the Beatles concert in 1965. But I'm taking his word for it, and you'll just have to take mine.
  11. I don't buy it and that tweet was no mistake. Yes. He's a fucking idiot. (And a great pitcher). Yes to the first part. That, couple with Bauer only being occasionally great, make me think this is a blessing in disguise. I can't quite put my finger on it but that tweet and his agent's tweet -- "Down to 2" -- annoy me more than anything else Bauer did. He played the Mets as far as I'm concerned. It never seemed to occur to the Mets that the Southern California native might have an interest in playing for the Southern California team with a wider wallet and a roster that is perfectly capable of repeating as champions even without him.
  12. https://nypost.com/2021/02/07/mets-thought-they-had-reached-a-deal-with-trevor-bauer/https://nypost.com/2021/02/07/mets-thought-they-had-reached-a-deal-with-trevor-bauer/ Was Bauer's agent disingenuous or did the Dodgers simply outwork the Mets at the last minute? I see no need to assume an either/or here. The agent did the job she was hired to do, and I don't think she or Bauer cares if you disagree with the methods. And the Mets seemed to go through the whole offseason incorrectly assuming nobody would produce a more desirable deal.
  13. Almora had a good year in 2017, but his power seemed to vanish in 2018 (under the watch of Chili Davis), then in 2019 his defensive value vanished, and we won't speak of 2020. I'm guessing he's been playing hurt quite a bit, but that doesn't mean that (a) it was all injuries or ( he's 100% now. On the bright side: I'm guessing that they asked Davis about him, and if he had said "don't waste your time" they would not have wasted their time. He has more upside than Marisnick, at least -- the 2017 bat and the 2018 glove would be a quality player, and he's still only 26.
  14. Occasionally makes it through 6 innings. Yawn. I think our level of need at starting pitcher is overstated. I'd rather have Trevor Rosenthal if we're spending money on pitching.
  15. =RealityChuck post_id=55514 time=1612555594 user_id=82] Probably best he signed elsewhere. Now they can talk about extending Conforto and Syndergaard.
  16. =MFS62 post_id=55524 time=1612556851 user_id=60] I hope he regresses to norm, a 3.90 career ERA. Later
  17. They would have had a lot more leverage with the deadline if they had set it while there were still multiple plan Bs on the table. As it stands, it's signing Bauer or choosing to go under budget when nobody was imposing financial constraints from above.

  19. One team will win by losing.
  20. His experience in center is very limited, but his defensive value at the corners is very high for the innings he's logged and he could have some sneaky value there. Pretty similar career-wise from both sides of the plate. And switch-hitters who can play anywhere and hit at least decently will always have value on a National League bench. I'm not backing up a Brinks truck for him, but he could be very useful.
  21. Not sure of the need as a starter, or his willingness to take a bullpen role. But he's good when he's healthy, and has more lives than a cat.
  22. =ashie62 post_id=55188 time=1612033960 user_id=90]Colorado is out from under.
  23. Wong might have made for an interesting offense/defense platoon with Davis (i.e., McNeil would alternate between third and second), but I don't think I would have gone 2 and 18 with him.
  24. Surprised the Marlins gave up on him so quickly. Maybe they know something -- he was certainly off last year -- but I wouldn't be too quick to bail on somebody I traded Christian Yelich to get. Polanco is young and raw, but he's hit at rookie league.
  25. I would have insisted on them taking Cano and throwing in Marquez. The latter might have been a deal-breaker, but the Rockies are in win-no-time-soon mode, and the names MLB Trade Rumors were throwing around suggest that the Cardinals did not up any of their three prospects in MLB.com's top 50.
