  1. I got some Strat-O-Matic cards from some classic teams (including the 69 and 73 Mets) last Christmas. Now all I need is an opponent.
  2. Dukes would need time in AAA, I'd have to think. But unless there was a specific character issue behind his release from the Nationals, I'd be open to giving him a look. Catalanotto should never have gotten a spot ahead of Carter, and that's just gotten more and more obvious. The problem with Pridie is he's not likely to hit better than Matthews. Jesus Feliciano might make more sense (less range but a much better hitter).
  3. Chris Carter has a .348/.408/.607 line so far. Too bad he needs more minor league seasoning. You would think that Calero would want to get back to the majors, wouldn't you?
  4. I still can't believe people were actually mad about Omar not outbidding the A's for Sheets.
  5. I thought Pelfrey had an unlucky inning, with a couple of bloops that were almost but not quite caught starting the cascade, but with an 0.67 ERA going into the game you could argue that bad luck was due to catch up with him anyway; oh well, move on, no worries. But Johan? Walking a 90-year-old pitcher with the bases loaded? That's so out-of-character you have to be concerned. Obviously I'm hoping he bounces right back with a solid start next outing, but until then I'm going to be a little bit anxious.
  6. I think whatever future Murphy has as a starting player is probably going to come at third base, which won't happen with the Mets. That doesn't mean he couldn't be a very good reserve for us in the meantime, but he should get some time at second, third, and the outfield in AAA before getting a call-up. I'd worry about his market value later.
  7. I hope Murphy plays multiple positions at AAA.
  8. I'm guessing that nobody in Buffalo is complaining about the team they have this year.
  9. And they couldn't afford to hang on to Cliff Lee? I just don't get what they're doing. Lee's injury notwithstanding, they'd have been really hard to beat with both him and Halladay in the rotation the last five months of the season (plus October). And yet they have money to badly overpay for Howard's down years. Oh well, their loss is our gain.
  10. So nobody likes Ike as much as I do?
  11. To answer my own question: Parnell and Calero have been having trouble finding the strike zone so far, while Acosta has at least pitched well.
  12. Did Parnell run over Manuel's dog or something?
  13. Since Ike isn't listed among the eligible players yet, how is that going to work? I'm guessing he'll get listed tomorrow if he plays tonight? And then there will be the same two-day bidding period that normally comes with waivers?
  14. That's not the first time this year that I've seen Wright bail on a high curve that wound up breaking into the strike zone. Hojo needs to get on him for that.
  15. I watched the first part of the 7/4/85 game. I can't remember what inning it was when I thought "this could go on all night" and went to bed, but I do remember waking up the next morning to discover I was more right about that little detail than I had expected. I remember being happy the Mets won, but the defining highlight was Danny Heep raising his hands in exasperation as the Rick Camp home run sailed over his head.
  16. So Maine, you're going eight tomorrow. At least. If you pitch like last time, guess what? You're still going eight, so suck it up and deal with it.
  17. If I were the GM and my manager called for a sacrifice bunt against a pitcher whose next recorded out would be THE FIRST IN HIS LIFE, I wouldn't even allow him to stay in the dugout to watch the end of the game. Fortunately for us Ryan Ludwick is a complete idiot -- sure, Pujols is up with a chance to win the game and Blanco throws out plenty of faster guys than me, but what the hell.
  18. While I'm glad Catalanotto got a hit, why wouldn't Manuel just pinch-hit Pagan there? He pinch-ran anyway, and Catalanotto is neither the better hitter in general nor more likely to tie the game with a homer. I didn't know about Feliciano, so I'll cut Manuel some slack. Although taking out Perez with a shorthanded pen gets even more puzzling. Sigh.
  19. I thought Tatis showed a good eye and did everything right, the liner just found Freese's glove. I'm at a total loss to explain how Manuel handled the seventh inning. To be fair I'd have given Ollie the hook at the first sign of trouble, but I didn't find an infield single and a sacrifice bunt all that troubling. Why Valdes and not Feliciano? Your guess is as good as mine. Perhaps Nieve is a bit overworked, but going 0-2 on two straight guys and having a HBP and a walk as end results is just bad. I'm confident Bay will get hot, but there have been some critical at-bats where he's looked lost. I think it's too early to use the word disappointment, but the Mets could use a boost from somebody in the line-up ASAP and he's the guy we paid to come in and do it.

    Sack One

I'm going to go way out on a limb and say that the good citizens of Buffalo will not complain about the Bisons' performance this year.
  21. If you're going to shorten him up you ought to be committed to sticking with it. Jerking him back and forth during the season is the worst thing you can do. It will look bad if all Mejia winds up doing is keeping a bullpen seat warm for two weeks until Calero is ready.
  22. I'm sure I'd cringe if I heard this person call Yankee HRs too. But I wouldn't care how badly a Mets announcer called the homers as long as he had plenty of opportunities to call them. At any rate, this thread made my day.
