  1. A good day for baseball. It also sets the market for Adrian Gonzalez, should the Padres decide a guy who can hit 40 HRs playing his home games in Petco might be worth holding on to.
  2. C: It's a four-way tie for a very distant second. If there's a difference between Barajas and the other three, it's very small. 1B: The scary thing about this bunch is that Murph is the best fielder. Cantu is slated to play third, and I'd take Murphy over Gaby Sanchez at this point in their careers. Glaus is a huge question mark too, so I'm not sure rating him higher is warranted. 2B: Kennedy's superior glove might push him ahead of Castillo, unfortunately. SS: A healthy Reyes is second, and hopefully we'll have that in May. 3B: Wright has to bounce back before I'd rate him ahead of Zimmermann. LF: Don't underestimate Ibanez. CF: We're first when Beltran comes back. Pagan had a higher OPS last year than anybody else on this list. Maybin has to earn his placing. Don't underestimate Nyjer Mogan's glove. RF: Heyward likewise would have to earn his placing. Ross and Francoeur are actually similar players; the primary difference is that Francoeur has played full-time his whole career while Ross never got that opportunity until this past season.
  3. I've been wondering where he's been. If any pitching prospect was to be given a shot for this year's pen, it should have been him -- at least if he was healthy.

    battles?

While we're on the subject of what people have to do to make the team, I just noticed that in 25.1 IP, Takahashi, Figueroa, and Misch have combined for zero runs. Nobody's even mentioning Misch.

    battles?

I would argue that Jacobs has exactly zero value at this point unless he can catch. I'm really not sure what Carter has to do to get a spot. The only outfielder or first baseman the Mets have who can hit righthanded pitchers better than him is Bay -- except possibly Martinez, and I'm not sure what he has to do to get a spot either.
  6. Fernando is making a strong case.
  7. I'd have waited until Reyes was activated before putting Hernandez through waivers, unless I was sure I wanted to bring Tejada north with me.
  8. It's a hard call. My instincts say don't rush Tejada, but the truth is he may already be better than Alex Cora.
  9. Figueroa may have put himself back into contention for the last rotation spot. So at what point does Carter get a serious look at first base?
  10. Don't panic. This kind of ailment requires medication, not DL time. He's not going to miss any games that count over this.
  11. A lot of teams expressed concern over his shoulder issues. But even 30 innings from him would help our pen. He had the best year of any relief pitcher on the market, many of whom got overly generous deals. This could turn out to be a major steal. And the worst case scenario is the Mets wind up where they were this morning.

  13. PS What happens when Carl Crawford gets traded to an NL team in mid-July and we all go all-in bidding for him?
  14. We did 1450 the last two years and it seemed to work out ok. It's consistent with a full season.
  15. Do you think 1250 innings is really enough? It seems like we'll be drafting third-string infielders but leaving fourth and fifth starters out there, the way things are currently structured.
  16. Ohman is at camp with the Orioles. Beimel at a million is pretty good value. On the right side, Kiko Calero at $2M or less would be even better value. Other than Frankie and Feliciano there are no sure things in the Mets pen, so I have no problem with adding legit guys on the cheap.
  17. Wow, we're up to 11 now. I'm beginning to think having six infielders and five outfielders active per team is a bit much...

  19. Omir was better than Barajas last year, and only needs to give the Mets a reason to think he'll be better again this year. He shouldn't go in thinking he's already sunk.
  20. It's good to make your own draft rankings as a reference, or at least know which players you think are worth grabbing ahead of their Yahoo ranking and which are worth avoiding. If for some reason you need to have the computer pick for you, you REALLY need to do your homework or you'll wind up with all the players everybody else thinks are overvalued, plus a few positional imbalances and guys who got injured after the rankings were made.
  21. Well if it's July, the surgery goes well, and Murph can't get his OPS north of .775 or so, Carlos might still be worth a call.
  22. Any word from our defending champ Vic?
  23. He's only making the league minimum, deal with it. Put him through waivers, and if somebody takes him in spite of the injury then fine, he's somebody else's problem. If not, free the spot on the 40, let him work his way back to health in the minors, and he still has the chance to be useful at some point. The only reason why I could see this being a problem worth bringing to the commissioner is if the injury is season-threatening. Don't/shouldn't waiver claims get physicals too, though? So has anybody figured out yet why Adam Bostick was never given a spot on the 40?
  24. I have a rules question: what happens if there's a trade between leagues?
  25. I'm in, and registered.
