  1. I always got the impression that Koosman and Koufax were nice guys. Maybe it's the old "Lefty starter with a name beginning with K" thing. Later

  11. Yes. I'll say it again, that was my point, and the point of the thread batmags quoted, you CAN'T Extrapolate based on a few games. I was just giving an example. That was the ONLY reason for my post. If I had said, "You can't use the seven HR Magadan hit in the CWS to accurately project how many he will hit as a pro" and left it at that, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Later
  12. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: You specifically said the Mets were fooled by a 7 HR tournament performance and now you're backing out of those 7 home runs My interpretation based on what I read at the time. But the purpose of the post WAS to talk about sample size. And I did. At Least I used English instead of a curse word. Later

  14. Granted. As I said he had other skills. He had several skills, but it turns out power wasn't one of them. But the topic of the thread is small sample size and my point is you can't look at 7 HR in the series and project or extrapolate anything accurate from it. (I couldn't find a link to support the HR series, either. That was from memory and the excitement i had when they drafted him because of what I'd read) The purpose of my post was to give an example of small sample size, and no other purpose was intended. 16. Kase, it started in this thread: https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34356https://phpbb3.leaptoad.com/mets/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34356 Later
  17. He hit 42 homers in 16 years. Not what is expected from a corner infielder. The seven homers in that series was more than any he hit in any entire major league season. Small sample size. Later
  18. Speaking of how you can't project based on small sample size, I recall that the Mets drafted Dave Magadan after he hit seven home runs in the college world series. They thought he would be a power hitter based on that small sample size. He had several skills, but it turns out power wasn't one of them. Later

  21. This is weird (from Yahoo Sports) - some of you don't like Yahoo links: The Mets have lost their 34th game of the season a remarkable 16 years in a row in what has become one of the strangest, and completely inconsequential, hexes in sports history. It started in 2010, when the Mets fell to the Washington Nationals, 6-4. Every year since, the Mets have dropped that game. The Cardinals were the 13th different team the Mets have faced during this span, so it's not like it's tied to any specific opponent. That makes the streak only weirder. Rats! Now that's something we'll have to look out for next year. Later
