  1. Michael Kay sounds totally disinterested on radio broadcasting the A's/ Tigers game. And Aaron Boone who shares the radio booth with him (I'll be kind) might never get a nomination to the broadcaster's wing of the HOF. Later
  2. IIRC, It used to be that when a player who had signed a long free agent was traded during that contract, he could become (his option) a free agent again the year following the trade. Is that still true? Later
  3. Obviously a labor of love. And we love it, too. Later

  5. As long as they say they are committed to building a winner around (young) pitching, I have no problem if the current dimensions are slightly pitcher-friendly. Later
  6. Coming back from surgery and he had a pretty good year that will probably put him back on the top prospect lists. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=matz--001ste Later

  8. Talk about under the radar. Most of those guys are under the sonar. Nice job writing about ... who are they again? Later
  9. Since I work late and don't get to see the games, I don't feel it would be right to participate in the voting just based on the box score and in-game threads. So I don't follow the Schaeffer game voting threads. It looks like most of the top single day winners were starting pitchers. Has that been typical in past years? Later
  10. Great job. And any thread that reminds us of David Newhan is always fun. Later
  11. Nice job, FK. Who is their hitting coach? He's teaching an effective approach. Later
  12. McCann and Gattis (who played positions other than catcher) combined for 41 home runs this year. Chris Johnson and Freeman were among the top 10 hitters in the NL in Batting average. As for other info, I'm checking my rule book to see if its possible for both teams to lose a series. Later
  13. Keeping this separate from the Free Agent thread. There have been several reports in the NY papers and elsewhere that the Rockies are looking to rebuild and Tulowitski and Gonzo might be available. But at the time of the All Star Game, I read that Sugarpants added Cuddyer to the Home Run Derby team because he and Cuddyer are old friends. Michael has one more year remaining on his contract, and with bonuses will earn about $11.5 in 2014. Maybe the Mets could pry him from the Rocks. Anyone heard any other rumors? Post them here, as well as any WATPs you can devise. (Or should that be another thread?) Later
  14. Mad Dog's old partner was talkin', too: Later

But at this point, seeing as how his last professional game was in 2011 and his last full/decent season was in 2008, I'm going to assume that he's retired until I hear otherwise. Actually, since he was declared a free agent after the 2011 season. So its more like two years. If I did it before that, I could have been accused of tampering. (j/k) But your point is well taken. 16. I'm not a financial guy, so I'll just go back to the Megdal article for a moment: It's been darkly amusing to watch the Mets, 18 months after the trustee suing them determined they were circling the financial drain I'll bet Megdal is amused by the situation, darkly or brightly. He should stick his head in that drain and listen to someone flush. Later
  17. He'll be trying our for lots of clubs to prove he is over his surgeries. But if he is healthy, I'd like to see the Mets take a shot at Grady Sizemore on an incentive laden (games or ABs) 1 year $1-2 million contract with a club option for $5 second year. It would be a low (financial) risk, potentially high reward option. Later
  18. I can see the images now. Thanks. What's the difference between names with blue or (is that orange?) backgrounds? Anything to do with status? Later
  19. Edgy, I just got a small picture. My PC also said "No longer available". Could you please post the roster in a different format? Thanks. Later

Hudgens isn't one of TC's guys, he's one of Sandy's guys...and from the sounds of it, his approach is pretty much what Sandy preaches (let pitches go by until you have 2 strikes on you...and then still don't swing because the guy may throw like a little league pitcher that is more likely to throw 4 balls than 3 called strikes...this approach works great for 300 pound gorilla Lucas Duda, who sports a .385 OBP despite hitting .200 with a .300 slugging percentage with no speed on the basepath)... He has done a good job teaching the players to wait until they get a decent pitch to hit. But once they get one they should be able to handle, they don't seem to be able to get hits. Is it the technique? I don't know. But I can't think of one hitter who has gotten better under Hudgens' coaching. Later

  22. TDA's average is .202. Adam Rubin ? @ AdamRubinESPN 4m My gut about why Travis d'Arnaud is sitting is that his average is at .202. No sense an 0-for-3 dropping it to a number that looks bad. Later
  23. I'll welcome him back as long as he doesn't bring Hudgens with him. Later
  24. I was listening in my car when the opposing pitcher was walking the ballpark and just plain wild. I was getting my scream ready, because I thought Recker would walk on four pitches and Q would stupidly swing at the first pitch. I had to use my scream on Recker. What was he thinking? That was just a dumb mistake. Gotta' go. Wifey's calling. Later
