  1. I have a weird feeling that among the NL-ers, Gattis will have the longest career. As for the AL-ers, I'm not that familiar with any of them other than Myers and Iglesias. How did Perez get on the AL list? Later
  2. Edgy MD wrote: 'Roids. In a vote on douchebaggery, I hereby write in Paul O'Neill. If you don't believe his was caused by 'Roid rage, just ask the next water cooler or light bulb you see. Without the 'roids, he would just have been a flaming asshole without acne. Later
  3. Frayed Knot wrote: In the meantime, the city of Atlanta is replacing their football stadium - as if a twenty y/o domed stadium is somehow now obsolete and a drag for the team. In that case the NFL probably told them they needed a new crib or no more Super Bowls. In the case of the Braves, this sounds like a move to the whiter suburbs. So does the city now demolish both of those "old" edifices? I'm not sure. The Georgia Dome is also the home field for Georgia Tech. (It may also be school property). If they build a new stadium for the NFL team, the Dome could still remain. I don't think the NFL is too find of a college steam sharing their facilities on a regular basis. Later
  4. That far? By the time you buy your hot dogs and (fabulously greasy) onion rings at The Varsity, they'll be cold by the time you get to the new ball park. http://www.thevarsity.com/locations.php Later
  5. I drove through Atlanta seven years apart. The traffic pylons they put up for construction on rt 75 as it went past the Ted were still there - the construction was never finished. Good luck with the new stadium being completed on time, much less the access roads. Later
  6. I look at him as the wrong guy for the right reasons. The Mets need a power hitter, but I'm not sure his age, medical history and maybe the money he would be asking make him the player I'd go after. Later
  7. There have been several stories about the Mets trying to obtain Tulowitzki and/ or Gonzales from the Rockies. But why not Cuddyer? He's 33,on the last year (or two) of his contract, and a right handed power hitter who has also played first base. Oh, and one more thing. He and David Wright are long time friends. (Read that's why David added him to the NL team for the Home Run Derby) Of all the "short term" players they might go after, Michael might be the only one who they could entice into staying after his current contract expires. With Helton retiring, wouldn't the Rockies need a first baseman(IKE)? If a deal is being discussed for Tulo, why not broaden the scope? Later
  8. Another invitee: New York MetsVerified account ? @ Mets # Mets signed utility man Anthony Seratelli to a minor league contract. He will be invited to MLB Spring Training. Later
  9. Waitaminit. The work that goes into this is greatly appreciated. But if this IS the General All Purpose Baseball Card Thread, then why are there baseball card pictures in all those other threads? Later
  10. metirish wrote: The Mets can go starkers for all I care if they win a World Series. In Yiddish, "starker" means "someone who is strong". From that context, I don't think that's what you meant. Later
  11. As reported by Disassociated Press: Bristol, Connecticut 3:04 PM ESPN is reporting that the Mets have contacted the agent for Brett Favre to see if he is interested in making a comeback. I don't believe it. Its probably somebody at ESPN making up a reason to mention Favre's name. Later
  12. Brad Ausmus? Does this mean the team trainer will be dispensing chicken soup instead of PEDs? Later
  13. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Anyone who can't see that is willfully blinding themselves to the facts, like opting for dark-tinted eyewear during a time of day when it's already pretty dark. C'mon. Don't be a wuss. Come right out and say "sunglasses at night". We'll be gentle. Later
  14. Right Handed hitter - check Power hitter - check Outfielder - check - knee injuries, but he would be playing next to Juan, so he might be ok enough.. Strikes out a lot - comes with the home runs - can live with it. My feelings - I'm OK with signing him if the price is in the range Edgy suggested. Later
  15. Is fielding that much more important than hitting? They give a Gold Glove award but only a Silver Slugger award. Later
  16. I have a ticket stub from that game. A friend of mine was there on business and he attended the game. He's a White Sox fan, so he gave me the stub. Later
  17. I heard Lloyd McClendon to the Mariners. Any confirmation? Later
  18. Zvon wrote: My response from 2009 is still the same, cept I wouldn't bother with the Phils. GO PIRATES! That's what I did, root for the Bucs, once my team left Brooklyn. Later
  19. Doesn't at least one iteration of Jose Feliciano fill that centerfield void? Later
  20. This is a dilemma for me. The first internet baseball board I ever posted on was FASTBALL. com. (Its no longer around.) Fans of all teams posted there. I used to refer to him as "Fecal" just to tick off the Braves fans. I have continued to refer to him that way, even though he turned out to be a pretty decent player. If he were to come to the Mets, I might have to change my name for him. Or, depending on how he plays, maybe not. Later
  21. I voted "Other". I'd do what I did when my team moved from Brooklyn and the other NL team moved to San Francisco. I'd pick another NL team to root for while waiting for another NL team to come to New York. Later
  22. Mariano Rivera - AL Comeback Player of the Year. http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/9928270/mariano-rivera-new-york-yankees-named-al-comeback-player-year Will he will visit every major league ballpark to show it off? Later
  23. Radio: The Mets will be marketed across all six top-rated Clear Channel New York radio stations and will work with each station on custom promotional opportunities on air and during Mets home games at Citi Field. Clear Channel and affiliate stations reach 93% of the New York DMA population of 12+ each month. Clear Channel New York radio stations include Z100 (100.3 WHTZ-FM), KTU (103.5 WKTU-FM), LITE FM (106.7 WLTW-FM), Q104.3 (104.3 WAXQ-FM), Power 105.1 (105.1 WWPR-FM) and WOR 710 AM. The Mets will be "marketed" on all those stations, but it still sounds like the games themselves will only be on WOR-AM. Later
  24. Drew had a terrible post season. I'm a little leery about signing him now that other teams may have watched the games and gone to school about how to pitch him. Later
  25. In case you missed it, the MFYs re-upped THE CAPTAIN for next year, paying him more than they would have had to under the option of his contract. I was going to post this in the ALCS thread because you just know this will inspire them to make the playoffs next year. The most incredible thing was that I was able to type that without misting up.
